The popular speaker announces plans to leave the priesthood amid an investigation into allegations of misconduct, and his religious superior breaks his silence on the investigation. Raising more questions than it answered, the message did not state the precise reason why Father Corapi chose to resign from the priesthood, rather than waiting for the outcome of SOLT’s investigation of the alleged misconduct.

New Orleans Capt. Jeff Winn has been fired from the department today for his failure to notify NOPD investigators about his knowledge of what happened in the Henry Glover civil rights case, according to his attorney. Winn testified at trial that he knew a man who had been shot arrived at school grounds in Algiers where his officers in the NOPD's Special Operations Division had set up camp in the chaotic week after Hurricane Katrina. He told two of his subordinates -- Officer Greg McRae and Lt. Dwayne Scheuermann -- to drive the man's body, inside a car, to...

A Pima County Sheriff's Department SWAT team shot and killed Jose Guerena eight days ago; it was executing a search warrant. Four days ago, in a news conference, a sheriff's deputy said the department makes it clear when SWAT is about to enter a home. Lt. Michael O'Connor says SWAT says it never wants to be mistaken for other people, "We had our large armored vehicle there with the markings on it. It also has lights and sirens. It was going. So we do everything we can to try to portray the image that we're law enforcement, we're not home...

DENVER -- The city's Independent Monitor believes a Denver police officer who was found to have used inappropriate force and then lied in the investigation should have been fired. The city and the officer are now being sued for the officer's actions. How Many Officers Lie On The Job? "Is it possible that an officer or deputy could lie from here on out and still have their job?" asked 7NEWS reporter Marshall Zelinger. "It can happen, but you have to make the decision on a case-by-case basis," said Rosenthal. "The problem is if you create one that is automatic termination...

Thirty cops were secretly recorded during the massive probe, and what was heard on thousands of hours of tape goes far beyond just making traffic violations disappear for family and friends. Sources tell me what's yet to come out is potentially criminal conduct: • Several officers allegedly tried to deep-six domestic violence incidents involving off-duty cops before police headquarters found out. • Others allegedly tried to quash drunk-driving incidents involving their brethren. • And still others were allegedly overheard making arrangements for and paying prostitutes. Evidence is being presented to a Bronx grand jury that's weighing criminal charges. A source...

A transcript of one wiretap from the investigation offers a sense of just how commonplace the practice is. In a telephone call, a Bronx police officer told a union delegate that a cousin of the officer’s boyfriend had received a speeding ticket in Queens. The delegate assured her that “I’ll get this taken care of” and promised to call two union officials elsewhere who he thought could help, according to the transcript. The delegate added that even in the “worst-case scenario” — if the ticket was not “pulled tomorrow” — there was still hope, the transcript says. “We’ll speak to...
