Here's a quick and reliable way to determine which folder Outlook Express stores your mail in :

Run Outlook Express. Click on the Tools menu and select Options…. In the box that appears, click on the Maintenance tab. Finally, click on the Store Folder… button. The dialog box that appears will display the path to your mailbox.

If you wish you can choose to re-locate your mailbox to a more convenient location, or in a multi-user environment like XP/2000 you can move it to a location accessible to all users - thereby creating a common mailbox for all (be sure to check file permissions though).

I would second jsteff's suggestion to create a backup of this folder (and your "My Documents" folder) at regular intervals. Older versions of "Outlook Express" may not allow you to import these files when you need to restore a backup - in this case simply copy the files over - but be sure to clear the "Read-Only" property of the files if copying from CD-ROM.

After reading this article I am reminded of a wonderful piece I read a year ago. I believe it appeared on WorldNetDaily too. I showed it to a (liberal) feminist that I occasionally lock horns with online, and although it didn't seem to affect her quite as much, I found it rather moving. I expect it must certainly have been posted here before, as it is a gem, but I present the link again for the benefit of any who may not have read it before :

There has been rather heavy shelling across the border with State media reporting about 4 deaths and numerous injuries so far in Srinagar, the capital of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. This is a fairly routine occurrence in that region and is certainly not indicative of a possible outbreak of war.

This comes as no surprise - as this article (from Nov. 2001) shows, it was to be expected.

Muslims gain visibility in the US Armed Forces

While many Muslims have indeed had positive experiences in the military, there are those whose experiences have been less favorable. Cpl. Ghanim Ahmed Khalil, 25, a Muslim of Pakistani descent, joined the Marines in 1995. Khalil says that though the military training and discipline he received from his four years in the Marine Corps have been beneficial to his life, his experience as a practicing Muslim in the military was a difficult one. “Generally my time in the Marines was good until I was confronted by discrimination, which was almost on a daily basis.”

Khalil says his experience included daily confrontations with Marines of various ranks who would dismiss his beliefs as “backwards and extreme.” Like Davidson, Khalil also served as a lay reader. And though he did receive some religious accommodation, he says he was not allowed to perform his daily prayers during work hours, nor was his Islamic dietary needs met. He also did not always get time off for Eid.

“Because I paid so much attention to my prayers, ideals, and conducting services for the Muslim recruits and permanent Muslim personnel, I was told that I paid way too much attention to my religious duties rather than my tasks as a Marine,” says Khalil. “I believe it is difficult to practice Islam in the military openly.”

It breaks my heart that AP chose to remember such a wonderful human being in such an inappropriate manner. Every year she would visit the school in India where studied and select two students to spend two weeks in the summer camp organized by the Johnson Space Center. One such student who was interviewed today said, amid tears, that she would like to follow in her footsteps, and cherished her advice to "follow your dreams." "I was not born for one corner," Kalpana Chawla had said once quoting philosopher Seneca. "The whole universe is my native land."

This is her bio from the Johnson Space Center web site:

    KALPANA CHAWLA (PH.D.)
    NASA ASTRONAUT

PERSONAL DATA: Born in Karnal, India. Kalpana Chawla enjoys flying, hiking, back-packing, and reading. She holds Certificated Flight Instructor's license with airplane and glider ratings, Commercial Pilot's licenses for single- and multi-engine land and seaplanes, and Gliders, and instrument rating for airplanes. She enjoys flying aerobatics and tail-wheel airplanes.

EDUCATION: Graduated from Tagore School, Karnal, India, in 1976. Bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from Punjab Engineering College, India, 1982. Master of science degree in aerospace engineering from University of Texas, 1984. Doctorate of philosophy in aerospace engineering from University of Colorado, 1988.

EXPERIENCE: In 1988, Kalpana Chawla started work at NASA Ames Research Center in the area of powered-lift computational fluid dynamics. Her research concentrated on simulation of complex air flows encountered around aircraft such as the Harrier in "ground-effect." Following completion of this project she supported research in mapping of flow solvers to parallel computers, and testing of these solvers by carrying out powered lift computations. In 1993 Kalpana Chawla joined Overset Methods Inc., Los Altos, California, as Vice President and Research Scientist to form a team with other researchers specializing in simulation of moving multiple body problems. She was responsible for development and implementation of efficient techniques to perform aerodynamic optimization. Results of various projects that Kalpana Chawla participated in are documented in technical conference papers and journals.

NASA EXPERIENCE: Selected by NASA in December 1994, Kalpana Chawla reported to the Johnson Space Center in March 1995 as an astronaut candidate in the 15th Group of Astronauts. After completing a year of training and evaluation, she was assigned as crew representative to work technical issues for the Astronaut Office EVA/Robotics and Computer Branches. Her assignments included work on development of Robotic Situational Awareness Displays and testing space shuttle control software in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory.

In November, 1996, Kalpana Chawla was assigned as mission specialist and prime robotic arm operator on STS-87 (November 19 to December 5, 1997). STS-87 was the fourth U.S Microgravity Payload flight and focused on experiments designed to study how the weightless environment of space affects various physical processes, and on observations of the Sun's outer atmospheric layers. Two members of the crew performed an EVA (spacewalk) which featured the manual capture of a Spartan satellite, in addition to testing EVA tools and procedures for future Space Station assembly. In completing her first mission, Kalpana Chawla traveled 6.5 million miles in 252 orbits of the Earth and logged 376 hours and 34 minutes in space. In January, 1998, Kalpana Chawla was assigned as crew representative for shuttle and station flight crew equipment. Subsequently, she was assigned as the lead for Astronaut Office’s Crew Systems and Habitability section. She is currently assigned to the crew of STS-107 scheduled for launch in 2003.

I read with great interest the other day, the report of Arafat hanging up on Christiane Amanpour during the CNN television interview. What especially annoyed me was what seems to me to be either unwillingnes or inability on her part to follow up on his absurd assertion that he is some sort of military figure. Although I did not witness the interview, I believe he asked her repeatedly to address him as "General Arafat". Well, any journalist worth his/her salt would then ask, "If you are a General as you claim to be, why aren't you out there, gun in hand, leading your 'troops' into battle?"

Donald Rumsfeld was right on the money when he said that Arafat has done nothing for his people. It is even more sickening that he assumes these military titles only to cower in a basement like a scared little mouse and then squeaks, "call me General". Go ahead, Mr. Sharon -- Arafat wants to play soldier -- don't disappoint him!

Madina mein ek shakhs ne khuwab mein dekha ke PROPHET(MPBUH)ne farmaya " meri ummat se kaho ke quran pak ki tilawat karo, namaz parha karo aur mera yeh peghaam har jaga pohncha do" jis shakhs ko bhi yeh peghaam miley ussey chahiyeh ke 7 martaba is ko taqseem kare. Theek 10 din baad iske ghar mein khushhaali aayegi. aur agar taqeem na kare to 10 din baad gham aayega".

It's Urdu, not Arabic. I couldn't understand many of the words but the gist of the message is that you should "spread the word" (about the prophet's teachings) within 7 days and that you will be rewarded "with happiness in exactly 10 days". If you do not obey, "a great misfortune will befall you at the end of those 10 days".

Borghead: "How many countries have china attacked in the last 20 years? Zero, how many have the U.S attacked: 10+. The U.S is the aggressive warmonger in the world not china."

They attacked India in 1959 and in 1962 - both were unprovoked attacks that effectively made enemies of the two ancient civilizations which had known each other for over 3,000 years. I'm sure others can cite better examples of Chinese aggression in the region.

Still accepting entries for slogans to put on your placards? Here's mine:

Putting the Red back into Red Cross.

Well, I never claimed to be a genius...

P.S. On a related note, anyone following these reports about illegal immigrants using the Channel Tunnel to enter England will remember that one of the complaints the Brits had was the Red Cross camp being operated on the French border, which the immigrants seem to be using as a jumping-off point. It's interesting that they refuse to shut it down or move it.

This is easily one of the best and most educative articles I've read in recent times. It underscores the belief that the Arabs are indeed morally bankrupt. I am filled with admiration for the author. This article reminded me of Saira Shah (name?), the brave lady who made the "Beneath the Veil" documentary on Afghanistan. Looks like Islam's only hope is it's women. More power to them!

Just one gripe though. About the headline: do we need to urge Muslims to practise what they preach? If anything they need to learn to emulate people of other faiths. And they're not "hiding" evil either -- they're flaunting it.

he had just finished mocking other freepers for their "ignorance"!

I have already posted an apology above. For the record, it was never my intention to mock anyone! All I have said in my message was that those criticizing Hinduism were rushing to judgment without considering certain factors -- I was merely calling attention to certain points and I do not see how this could be construed as "mocking" or suggesting "ignorance". I have nothing but the greatest respect for fellow members of this forum -- let me be clear about that.

-- were witches not burnt at the stake in America as recently as a century ago?

I apologize for a rather foolish statement on my part, as has been twice pointed out to me -- I clearly wasn't thinking when I wrote that -- it should've read "a couple of centuries", as I thought the practice had survived until the mid-18th century. I will take greater care in stating facts in future.

I must say I am disappointed that no other points in my posts were addressed. Again, I apologize to all whom I have offended.

I forgot to make an important point that I've been meaning to, for quite some time. I wanted to set the record straight about Christians in India. Whether you know it or not, the work of many Christian missions in educating, healing and sheltering the poor and the needy in India is GREATLY appreciated by all. Many educated Indians are acutely aware that they owe a great debt to the Christians who made these things possible.

I cannot explain the anti-Christian violence that occurs, albeit rarely and in rural areas, from time to time -- there is NO way (nor should there be) to justify it. However, Christians in urban areas and for the most part get along just fine with their Hindu/Muslim neighbors. Go to Mumbai or Delhi and you will find entire sections of the town lit up during Christmas, annual fairs on the birthdays of Saints, and even Hindus going to churches to seek blessings. Please do not equate Muslims in India with the Christians as being "allies against the oppressing Hindus" -- nothing could be further from the truth.
