Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is upset with some of her political opponents for slicing up a cake made to look like her. State Representative Tom Brinkman cut the head off the Schmidt-cake at a meeting of COAST, an anti-tax group he founded. Bob McEwen, Schmidt's opponent in the Second District Republican congressional primary was also in attendance. Both say they will not apologize for their actions.

No matter who wins on August 2, we will be represented by someone who lives with us, works with us, has integrity, and will effectively represent us (yes, even a Democrat can do that). Winners (again): Every single resident of The 2nd District. A McEwen victory would have forced BizzyBlog to fully research and verify a great deal of...

McEwen and Schmidt are neck and neck. Schmidt tore up in Clermont County (around 3000), her home county. That is keeping her in this thing. McEwen won by a nice margin in Warren County (1500 or so), and Brown County (about 600). He and Schmidt are running neck and neck in Hamilton County (McEwen was winning by about 200). No results from Adams, Scioto, or Pike. Pat DeWine is in 4th. Schmidt has opened up a bit of a lead on WLWT, probably Clermont coming in.

2nd District primaries today 11 Republicans, six Democrats running By Barry M. Horstman Post staff reporter After a bruising Republican campaign and complaints among some Democrats about party leaders trying to force their choices on them, voters in portions of Greater Cincinnati will go to the polls today to select the finalists in the 2nd Congressional District race. The victors in the GOP and Democratic primaries in the sprawling seven-county district, which stretches from eastern Hamilton County and southern Warren County to Portsmouth, will face each other Aug. 2 for the U.S. House seat vacated by Rep. Rob Portman this...

Recently, Washington-based Club for Growth began running radio advertisements exposing the profligate taxing-and-spending record of Jean Schmidt, candidate for United States Congress from the Second Congressional District of Ohio. Club for Growth has quickly become a leading conservative voice in Washington promoting sound fiscal and economic policies. It helped elect to Congress thirty-nine members advancing prudent fiscal policies in 2004. As the Chairman of COAST, the leading organization promoting fiscal responsibility in tax and spending policies in southwest Ohio, I want to thank the Club for Growth for informing district voters about this voting record, explain why COAST also opposes...

Mud flies in Ohio special election GOP front-runners stress family as vote nears in conservative-held district By John McCarthy Associated Press WEST UNION, Ohio – Four Republican contenders in Ohio’s special congressional primary practically tripped over one another emphasizing family at a weekend picnic. Jean Schmidt, a former state lawmaker, had to leave early to attend her daughter’s dance recital. Bob McEwen, trying to get back to Congress after a 13-year absence, noted his 29th wedding anniversary coming up Sunday. State Rep. Tom Brinkman told the crowd that he has been married for 21 years and is raising six children....

Political Action Arm of Nation’s Largest Taxpayer Group Says Ohioans Can Do Better Than Schmidt National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund 6/10/2005 12:08:12 PM ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 10 -- Ohio needs a true taxpayer’s advocate who will help lead the fight for lower taxes and less wasteful government spending: that’s the assessment of the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), which today announced it is recommending that Republican primary voters in the 2nd District of Ohio vote for anyone other than Jean Schmidt. "Jean Schmidt established a record of supporting higher taxes when she was in the Ohio Legislature -- it...

Congressional race: Divide to conquer? With the vote so split up, the winning tally may be strikingly low By Barry M. Horstman Post staff reporter A seat in Congress - one of the most coveted prizes that American politics has to offer - could be won by fewer votes than it takes to get elected to student government at a decent-sized university in next week's special 2nd Congressional District election. With 11 Republican candidates and five Democrats - six, counting one running as a write-in - competing for the seat vacated by Rep. Rob Portman, an anticipated low turnout could...

Just wondering if there was any news so far this week. It seems as though things are very tight and getting nasty. DeWine seems to be attacking McEwen. Like I asked before, are the polls showing something? DeWine is attacking the check bouncing stuff. Brinkman's folks are attacking on the carpetbagging stuff and deservedly so. The Club for Growth is on the attack against Jean Schmidt for raising taxes during his stint in the Ohio House. I have said this before, but these Ohio state legislators crack me up. They ran promising not to raise taxes (remember all the Taxin...

Shattering the decorum that has governed their campaign to date, several top Republicans in the 2nd Congressional District race Wednesday night caustically attacked each other, trading bitter exchanges over issues as traditional as voting records and as personal as divorce and individual finances. In the most combustible debate yet in the battle for the GOP nomination in the special June 14 primary for the U.S. House seated vacated by former Rep. Rob Portman, an Anderson Township forum saw Hamilton County Commissioner Pat DeWine harshly lash out at several opponents in defending himself against what he sees as their attacks on...

2nd District race crowded, covers wide political span 17 running to fill Portman seat; primary June 14 By Lawrence Budd Dayton Daily News LEBANON | Cincinnati Right to Life's political action committee endorses three of 11 Republican candidates in the race to replace former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman. The Family First PAC is backing two. Rather than endorsing Jean Schmidt, president of the Greater Cincinnati Right to Life, Warren County Right to Life President Lori Viars supports former congressman Bob McEwen. Among other neoconservative leaders in his camp, McEwen lists John Wilke, a founder of the anti-abortion movement and Cincinnati...

The Ohio 2nd blog reports that The Cincinnati Right to Life Political Action Committee (CRTL-PAC) has endorsed three candidates in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District Primary: Tom Brinkman, Bob McEwen, and Jean Schmidt. I have looked at the candidates' answers to the questions on the PAC's survey. The following candidates answered "Yes" to all seven questions, which would clearly earn each of them a description (by CRTL-PAC's definintion) as prolife: - Steve Austin (R) - Tom Bemmes (R) - Brinkman (R) - Pat DeWine (R) - McEwen (R) - Eric Minamyer (R) - Doug Mink (R) - Jeff Morgan (R) -...

In an effort to make sure the "sin'' of the father isn't visited on the son, Republican candidate Pat DeWine made it clear Thursday he doesn't approve of the role his father, Sen. Mike DeWine, played this week in brokering a deal with Senate Democrats over judicial filibusters. "I wouldn't have voted the way he did,'' the Hamilton County commissioner said Thursday. "If a person is appointed to the federal bench, he or she deserves an up-or-down vote.'' The elder DeWine was one of seven Senate Republican moderates who came together this week with seven Senate Democrats to hammer out...

http://www.gobrinkman.com/ Senator Dewine's son is running against Tom Brinkman Jr. in the republican primary this June 14th. Need I say more? Tom Brinkman Jr. Is running in a special election June 14th in Ohio's 2nd district against Pat Dewine (Rino Senator Dewine's son). District two is a 'safe' republican district, Pat DeWine is a virulent liberal running as a republican, whereas Brinkman is a solid conservative. Lets send a message to Dewine that we don't approve of his actions in the senate regarding judicial comromises, and limp wristed liberalism at every turn. We have a rare opportunity to show Dewine...

There's a special election to fill a safe republican Congressional seat in Ohio's 2nd District on June 14th, three weeks out. State Rep Tom Brinkman is running. Against Pat DeWine. Senator Mike DeWine's son. Though I do not favor visitng the sins of the father on the son, conservative primary voters who just watched DeWine the Elder throw some fine conservatives under the bus might not be as forgiving. DeWine the Younger is the favorite. If you are a Ohio voter in the 2nd, send me an e-mail as to whether this is an issue, and especially if Tom Brinkman...
