Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is upset with some of her political opponents for slicing up a cake made to look like her.

State Representative Tom Brinkman cut the head off the Schmidt-cake at a meeting of COAST, an anti-tax group he founded.

Bob McEwen, Schmidt's opponent in the Second District Republican congressional primary was also in attendance.

Both say they will not apologize for their actions.

If I was a voter in these districts, I would have a very hard time voting for anyone that finds "beheading" funny. I would have a very hard time sending anyone to DC that would participate in a PR stunt like this.

note : There is a longer article on this at www.cincinnati.com that was run in the Cincinnati Enquirer. I am not permited to post the link to the Enquirer article.

Well. I didn't know that Republicans believed in and practiced sympathetic magic. How primitive.

Oh Pleeeeaaase! The tightassed conservatives on this board constantly B & M about Republicans not being bold enough against their opponents,or some such crap, then they do something like this, and now we have to take a page from the grandured austere prisses because of a legitimate tactic?

Although, in your defense, I don't believe this tactic is called for at this time because of recent activities associated with terrorist...

Being bold against your Democrat opponent doesn't necessarily have to include sophomoric pranks that end up making you look rediculous. Unlike Democrats we can hit them on the issues and not have to resort to cheap stunts.

Schmidt's demand sounds like something a Democrat would do.

The Democrats, on the other hand, would have thrown the cake in their opponent's face.

Recent facts suggest we Repubs don't have to "Hit" them at all we just have to let them speak their mind and they take themselves out.

I don't think that cake was neccessarily "cheap!"

I'm offended you'd call it a cheap stunt.

At least she wasn't tarred and feathered!

The wussification of America continues apace.

Tar and feathers might have hurt her feelings.

I agree - she can mention it when it serves her purpose but making a stink out of it for no apparent reason except her feelings are hurt, is a waste of time.

Save for a better tiime.

Sensitivity doesn't have a place in politics, in general. Except maybe at a funeral.

Look, Pedro, I don't know how they do things down in Juarez, but here in Idaho we have a little something called pride. Understand? Smashing in the face of a pinata that resembles Summer Wheatley is a disgrace to you, me, and the entire Gem State.

She should make it a point to send the fellows who did this a recipe for a "better tasting cake", and say something about starting with a "cup of sifted tax cuts", ....etc. She would be making a point and getting her message out too. Sometimes it really pays to have fun with those who are making fun of you. Complaining about something this juvenile doesn't cut it with me.

In this case the so very brave and bold Republicans were bashing a fellow Republican.

I didn't favor Jean Schmidt in the primary last year, but she won and she's a decent conservative, and she doesn't deserve to have a voodoo cake made in her likeness and its head cut off. How juvenile does it get?? I and many others want to see politicians act like adults and not run around playing games.

Jean Schmidt needs to grow up. If Mean Jean can't handle a cake being cut that has her face on it, she needs to find a new profession. I'd like to see our elected officials worry about real issues.

Mean Jean thinks it's ok to slur a decorate Marine on the House floor, but wants us to shed tears for her because she wins the Marie Antoinette award? She's a Class A hypocrite. If Mean Jean can dish it out, she should be able to take it too.
