Not what you've been told. Politicians exploit public ignorance. Few areas of public ignorance provide as many opportunities for political demagoguery as taxation. Today some politicians argue that the rich must pay their fair share and label the proposed changes in tax law as tax cuts for the rich. Let’s look at who pays what, with an eye toward attempting to answer this question: Are the rich paying their fair share? According to the latest IRS data, the payment of income taxes is as follows. The top 1 percent of income earners, those having an adjusted annual gross income of...

I know. I expected BO to just veg out and watch hoops all weekend too. Butt as you well know, being President means never really being off the clock. No doubt driven by the revelation that there’s a new “regional power” on the block, BO decided to emerge from his man cave to make his picks in the Presidential Regional Power Brackets, which he developed himself. In the North division he selected Canada over Alaska because they’re much more polite. In the East, he took China over North Korea, although that one was hard to call, as was the Middle East,...

President Barack Obama, the nation's first basketball fan, took marker to bracket with ESPN again at the White House and selected defending tournament champion Louisville, No. 1 overall seed Florida, top seed Arizona and Michigan State to advance to this year's NCAA men's Final Four. The paths Obama took to arrive at his 2014 Final Four, an event that has come to be known as "Barack-etology", were revealed on SportsCenter at 11 p.m. ET Tuesday. The president's complete picks -- this is the sixth consecutive year he's made them with ESPN's Andy Katz -- will be announced Wednesday on the...

The boys at a Washington state high school have turned the pressures of being a teen girl up to "10." For five years running, boys at Issaquah High School have pitted their female classmates against one another in an online "May Madness" tournament, voting on the sexiness of the girls and encouraging them to "look their finest" at school. Officials in Issaquah, about 15 miles east of Seattle, say they have tried to stop the site, modeled after one focusing on celebrities run by a local sports radio station, without success.

Despite being Women's History Month, March has seen relentless attacks on ladies' rights. As soon as one state passes some outrageous woman-restricting bill, another is right behind with something even, well, outrageous-er. The "state-by-state race to the bottom on women's health," as the president of Planned Parenthood put it, inspired us to set up our own March Madness bracket to determine the national champion in the War on Women.

Barrack's March Madness bracket picks are a telling self-revelation. An amateur psychologist would have a field day. The doctor is in, and here is the diagnosis. 1) The man has no imagination. No vision. Zilch. Nada! He picks all predictable number one seeds to be in the Final Four. How original is that? For the first time in tournament history there are not even any number 2 seeds much less a number 1. His 2009 Final Four picks were all number ones too. The man is incredibly shallow. 2) He is bereft of the concept of personal struggle of the...

President Obama's 2011 NCAA Brackets Posted by Jesse Lee on March 16, 2011 at 12:20 PM EDT As he does every year, the President filled out his brackets predicting the winners of the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments, but discussing it with Doris Burke of ESPN, he began with a call to stand with the people of Japan: One of the things I wanted to do on the show was, as people are filling out their brackets -- this is obviously a national pastime; we all have a great time, it’s a great diversion. But I know a lot...

He studied all season for the tourneyAn autistic teenager from the Chicago area has done something almost impossible. Nearly 48 games into an upset-filled NCAA tournament, 17-year-old Alex Hermann is perfect. "It's amazing," he says. Truly. The teenager predicted that Northern Iowa would beat the Kansas Jayhawks. He picked Ohio to knock off Georgetown. And Cornell to knock off Wisconsin. In fact, he picked every game through the first two rounds correctly. The odds of anybody doing that? One in 13,460,000, according to BookofOdds.com. It's easier to win the lottery. Twice. "I'm good at math," Alex, a Glenbrook South High...

Question of the Week: Pelosi Bracketology Thank you for your patience regarding the delay of our Question of the Week. This week, Tim from St. Paul asks us: Now that we've seen President Obama's bracket, what do you think Nancy Pelosi's looks like? Selkirk: I Don't Want to Think About It I try to spend as little time as possible trying to make sense of Madame Speaker, and as for trying to get inside her head, as I've said before, come on in, there's plenty of room. But here goes. To start, Nancy's bracket wouldn't have 64 (or 65) teams....
