For any men wanting to donate blood, make sure you’re medically self-aware. For example, you should be adequately informed as to whether you’ve been impregnated.Such was a lesson reportedly learned by Leslie Sinclair this month. The central Scotland resident had hoped to give life-sustaining fluid to others in need. Sadly, the effort encountered coagulation.According to the Daily Mail, the 66-year-old was handed a form asking if he was currently pregnant. Furthermore, the facility needed to know if he’d been knocked up within the last half-year.The inquiry left him less than impressed:When he complained that as a man in his 60s...

Every 2 seconds, someone in the United States is in need of a blood transfusion. On World Blood Donor Day, we thank those individuals who selflessly donate blood to help thousands of hospitals and medical care facilities meet the needs of their patients.Over the past several months, the hardships of the coronavirus have lowered our country’s blood and platelet supply to critical levels, and the need to donate blood has never been more acute. With more than 30,000 blood drives canceled since mid-March, those battling severe illnesses or those involved in life-threatening accidents could be in particular danger of...

'Naked caveman' striking fear into hikers who stumble across him on the mountain he has called home for three years while supporting himself by donating blood A mountain community in Texas claims it is being terrorised by a 'naked caveman' who lives in the hills and harasses hikers and passers-by. The man has apparently occupied a remote cave above El Paso for three years, and supports himself by donating blood plasma and recycling cans. But local residents say they have seen him prowling around their houses, and are intimidated by his aggressive behaviour. The inhabitants of an apartment complex at...

I was giving blood today at work. For those of you who haven’t given blood recently, there are some major changes in how the blood is collected. It used to be that blood was taken by swabbing your arm with rubbing alcohol, and then a needle was placed into the vein in your elbow, and the blood was collected in a sterile bag. That part is still the same. However, there is now a choice of how one gives blood: the conventional way, or a new way called “power red”. This involved a complex machine which takes a portion of...

There was a short article in my local newspaper (The Home News Tribune) yesterday about our just-departed "Gay-American" Governor. Seems he donated blood-without disclosing his sexual preferences to the Blood Bank. The Blood Bank ,in this area, anyway, has a policy of not accepting blood donations from those who practice a gay lifestyle, because there is (in the Blood Bank's opinion) an increased risk of tainting the blood supply with HIV,and infecting someone down the line with AIDS. Heartwarming, isn't it ???

<p>MONMOUTH, Ore. — The American Red Cross may soon be banned from holding blood drives on one university campus because the organization prohibits some gay men from donating blood.</p> <p>"We're looking at the practices of the Red Cross — whether they are discriminatory, and if they are, how it relates back to our policy," said Gary Dukes, vice president of student affairs at Western Oregon University.</p>
