There was a short article in my local newspaper (The Home News Tribune) yesterday about our just-departed "Gay-American" Governor.
Seems he donated blood-without disclosing his sexual preferences to the Blood Bank.
The Blood Bank ,in this area, anyway, has a policy of not accepting blood donations from those who practice a gay lifestyle, because there is (in the Blood Bank's opinion) an increased risk of tainting the blood supply with HIV,and infecting someone down the line with AIDS.
Heartwarming,isn't it ???
The b@st@rd.
But it made him feel good - what liberalism is all about...
Get ready for this blood bank to be hit with a law suit for profiling.
can homo-guv be held liable or be prosecuted for this outrage!?
New Jersey Blood Services allow a confidential opt-out. After they process the donor, he is given two bar code stickers, one to use if he wants his blood to be used for transfusions, and one to use if he does not. The donor they selects one of these stickers to place on the form and discards the other. Strict confidentiality is maintained over which choice the donor makes, and the techs have no idea what the bar code selected means. They use universal precuations, anyway.
So, it is abundantly possible that McGreevey donated blood but used the "DO NOT TRANSFUSE" bar code to ensure that his blood is thrown away.
It's possible, but considering how irresponsible the guy has been about everything from appointing a Homeland Security advisor whose qualifications are far less than even mine, to his two (2) marriages, I wouldn't make any sort of a large bet on it.
I am confused. What is the point of donating blood and then having it thrown out?
Research and testing maybe? I don't know..
Well, say you are the Governor of a state, and also an in-the-closet homosexual... When the Governor's office has their semi-annual blood drive, you would want to donate in order to show support for the program and also to help dispell any rumors regarding your sexual orientation. So you could give blood, but then use the appropriate sticker to ensure that nobody gets hurt.
People do give blood and they use the opt out. For one thing, you get credit from the blood bank for every pint you donate, whether it is usable or not. As a multi-gallon donor myself (all of it transfusable, BTW), I will never have to pay for blood from the NJ Blood Services blood bank. Others who should be excluded for various reasons might donate because they are being pressured by collegues or the boss. The opt out provision keeps this blood from entering the general supply.
I also am of the opinion that getting bled every couple of months is good for my general health. When you think about it, stuff like cholesterol and plaque forming impurities accumulate in your blood over time. I change the oil in my car to remove gunk, so why shouldn't I siphon a little off the top of my bloodstream from time to time to get rid of the stuff that shouldn't be there? I would use leeches if they weren't so disgusting...
But that's just my opinion. I am not a doctor.
That would be excellent, and I hope he did opt out.
You're in New Brunswick, right ?
I used to work out of a building right behind NJ Blood Services.
Oh, I don't work for NJ Blood Services. I am just one of their donors.
