After the Kent County Land Bank Authority came under fire for buying more than 40 vacant, tax foreclosed properties to block developers and individuals from purchasing them, Kent County has set up a subcommittee to study the issue. The committee will consist of four county commissioners, and will look at how other land banks choose to buy property. It remains to be seen whether they will give a critical look at the practice of government using taxpayer dollars to buy property. The committee may alternatively be nothing more than an attempt to placate Kent County residents upset with the land...

I have received many emails and have heard much talk about the U.S. breaking into two countries †one Constitutional Republic built on a foundation of Judeo-Christian principles consisting of the Mountain, Central and Southern states (essentially a Second American Republic), and a Marxistâ€Socialistâ€Atheist confederation consisting of the Pacific Coast states, the Upper Midwest (IL, MI, WI) and the New England states. While it is sorely tempting to think about dropâ€kicking the liberal states and going our separate ways, the reality is that this would be a MASSIVE mistake, and would almost certainly set in motion a chain of events...

I'm not posting the body of the thread because it reposts the lies in the FOX hit piece. Go to the URL and read it for yourself. This article does at least refute the lies in the Kohn piece, but only after repeating them.

School records will be among the key documents that young undocumented immigrants must submit in their requests for deferred action, the new immigration policy that allows individuals who arrived in the United States as children to seek relief from deportation and gain work permits. Applicants have to demonstrate, among other criteria, that they are currently enrolled in school, have graduated from high school, or have obtained a GED. But school records will also help many potential beneficiaries prove another key qualification: continuous presence in the U.S. for the last five years. A high school transcript documenting four years of schooling...

On the surface, it appears that a corporation that was formed just days before a signature petition drive was started to create a ballot proposal that would lock a forced unionization of home health care workers into the state constitution, is the major player behind the ballot proposal. But one doesn't have to dig too deep to figure out that it is almost certainly the Service Employees International Union that is behind the company promoting the "Keep Home Care Safe" initiative. "Citizens for Affordable Quality Home Health Care" is the name of the campaign committee for the proposal. According to...

TAMPA, Fla. — Possibly the only living American who supported both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in the same election year told Human Events Wednesday that he is “totally committed and in a big way” to Republican Romney’s election this fall. William F. Weld, former Republican governor of Massachusetts and now a lawyer in New York, explained to us that “I supported Obama over (John McCain) in ’08 because I felt he was more serious about the economy. You can see how wrong I was!” But, liberal Republican Weld quickly added, “I had supported Mitt Romney for the nomination in...

Once again, an evening of words. And in an unusual twist for this type of thing, they were nicely combined with ideas for a CHANGE. ...from New Mexico, Susana Martinez... “We talked about many issues, like welfare, is it the way of life or hand up? Talked about size of government, how much should it tax families and small businesses? And when we left that lunch, we got in the car and I looked over at Chuck and said, "I'll be damned. we're Republicans.'' She should have known she was a Republican though, since she’s been packin’ a 357 magnum...

*Vanity post* I'm 55 years old, diagnosed with a torn meniscus cartilage on the inner right knee. Got injured playing ball about six months ago, slipped and fell running the bases. I had the knee drained and got a cortisone shot a couple of months ago, but it started hurting again recently. Got an MRI where the diagnosis was made. Not sure yet of the extent of the tear, or if there is fraying of the meniscus also. I am seeing an orthopedic surgeon and may possibly elect for arthroscopic surgery. Any FReepers have surgery for a torn meniscus? How...

Obama Has Stolen $5.3 Trillion From Our Children In Order To Make Himself Look GoodMichael SnyderAugust 30, 2012 Barack Obama has destroyed the future of America in order to improve his chances of winning the next election. Under Obama, 5.3 trillion dollars has been ruthlessly stolen from our children and our grandchildren. That money has been used to pump up the debt-fueled false prosperity that we have been experiencing. When the U.S. government borrows money that it does not have from someone else (such as China) and spends that money into the economy it is going to make our economic...

Something is happening among Black voters and if the Democrats aren’t scared they ought to be. “three separate polls from three different states showing Obama with African American support in the 70s. … [plus] in last spring’s Arkansas Democrat presidential primary raises doubts about the actual level of support he has among African Americans. Obama won the Arkansas primary by 58/42 but when the votes of the 29 “significantly” Black counties were tabulated his lead shrunk by 8 points. In ten counties with Black populations between 19% and 41% Obama actually lost 38/62! Not all of this can be dismissed...

The state of Michigan apparently does not keep track of the afflictions of state workers collecting disability payments provided by taxpayers. According to the departments that should be overseeing the program, the state spent $42.8 million in 2011 on disability payments without knowing whether employees are disabled. If true, the state may be breaking the law. A decade ago, Michigan spent $35.5 million on disability payments. The state has 47,818 current employees in the system and 3,527 people receiving disability benefits. But when asked, multiple state agencies were unable to provide a basic list of afflictions of those receiving benefits...

The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits was unchanged last week, pointing to a labor market that was treading water. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits were a seasonally adjusted 374,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's figure was revised up to show 2,000 more applications than previously reported. ...snip... Jobless claims have risen by 10,000 in August, suggesting some moderation in the pace of job growth this month after payrolls increased 163,000 in July from 64,000 in June.

After watching Condi get ganged up on over the birther issue.I was hoping she would have responded this way Media ""Bla bla bla birther" US: We really don't want to get involved in internal democratic party squabbles media:explain? US: Everyone knows that before Obama was elected in 2008 an ex district attorney and DEMOCRAT named Phillip J Berg out of the great city of Philadelphia filed the first lawsuit over obama's eligibility......This is where it started and again, This is where it will stay. We really don't want to get involved with anything concerning doubts within the other party and...

So quaint, the notion of "party platform," planks hammered together to support a speaker and his or her vantage point, the way "stump speech" is said to come from the days when candidates stood on tree stumps to address the voters. The 2012 GOP platform is no-way, no-how when it comes to abortion and same-sex marriage, but there’s a chink in that social-warrior armor: There's nothing in it banning adoption by same sex couples. Although party platforms can be at variance with the candidate’s own views, in this case it seems to be consonant with Mitt Romney’s stance on adoptions...

Spotted in Minnesota... The outfit behind this and other snarky, similarly-themed roadside billboards -Minnesota-based 'Action4Liberty'- is a grass-roots citizens group that set-up a webpage on which to take donations, and is just buying ads with whatever comes-in. Seven stated goals of the organization: free marketslimited government reduced government spending lower taxes voter integrity term limits restoring America's founding principles Sounds good to me! Other gems from Action4Liberty (note 'vote CONSERVATIVE' messaging, rather than merely 'Republican')... I like the one with the piggy face-down in the drink~ h/t Roberto

With the next four years at stake, the only topic of conversation is the Race Card. The left plays the Race Card and then accuses the right of playing the Race Card. There are dogwhistles in the air that only white middle-aged pundits can hear and arguments over whose diverse lineup truly represents the philosophy of the future and whose is just shameless tokenism. The media madhouse insists that a half-black man who went from the Illinois State Senate to the White House in 5 years is proof that we are a racist country and that Southern Europeans whose ancestors...

I haven't watched the speech Paul Ryan gave last night at the Republican National Convention because I simply ran out of time. From some of the headlines I have seen, as well as the reports I have read, it must have been a rousing speech. The Hill headline reads "Ryan carves up President Obama". I plan on taking the time to watch it this evening, before Mitt Romney takes the stage in Tampa. Here is how America's Watchtower puts it. Paul Ryan came out swinging and he didn’t let up; hammering the Obama regime for broken promises, failed leadership, the...
