Don’t get comfortable with this, ever. The Rs can become just as much of a group of dictators and power mongers than the Ds can. I don’t trust either group but I know the Ds are not my friends.
It was a pretty dramatic illustration of how Conservatism must appeal to people who open their minds and accept the logic of Conservative views.
It is all the more exceptional in her case, because she reached her Conservatism after long familiarity with Liberalism and at risk to her career. That was courageous.
Also, and she was clear on THIS, the Conservative people who spoke to her were objective and completely above board in their representations to her... without coercion and completely respecting her right to be what she was comfortable being... no matter what her ultimate choice would be.
I loved that part too.
I have disagreed with some of her decisions as governor but I still respect the heck out of her. I know how hard it is to battle the entrenched Democrats in NM and she’s actually done a great job.
I like that she’s armed too.
A great speech. What an inspiration. It’s okay to walk off the DemoRat plantation, Hispanics. Wake up!
Do you know that quote by chance? Ive been hearing about it but would love to know the context
Which quote do you mean?
She turned to her husband, Chuck, and said, “I’ll be damned! We’re Republicans!”
One too many apostrophes?
I loved it when she said she carries a S&W .357! If you stuck your head out the window and listened real hard, you could hear the sounds of liberal heads exploding all over the countryside.
It’s actually a comma after damn...I didn’t see it that way until you said it...I’ll think about removing it.
Susana had a GREAT Speech... none of them had a bad speech..
” I was a Democrat for many years. So were my parents.
Before I ran for District Attorney, two Republicans invited my husband and me to lunch. And I knew a party-switch was exactly what they wanted.
So, I told Chuck, we’ll be polite, enjoy a free lunch and then say goodbye.
But we talked about issuesthey never used the words Republican, or Democrat, conservative or liberal.
We talked about many issues, like welfare is it a way of life, or a hand-up?
Talked about the size of government — how much should it tax families and small businesses?
And when we left that lunch, we got in the car and I looked over at Chuck and said, “I’ll be damned, we’re Republicans.” “
Or just add some vertical space between the words.
