Republicans are taking the podium at their convention today, and millions of people will start paying attention to this race for the first time. The message they'll hear will mirror the distortions Governor Romney has based his entire campaign on -- amplified 10,000 times. They're going to talk about the economy, but they won't mention that their $5 trillion plan gives big tax breaks to people who don't need them. They won't mention their plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system that could cost seniors up to $6,400 more per year. They'll talk a lot about strengthening the middle...

Several Inland immigration activists took part in a demonstration at the state Capitol in Sacramento Tuesday urging Gov. Jerry Brown to sign the Trust Act into law. (here are some photos from KUVS-TV in Sacramento; the story is in Spanish). The bill, which cleared its final legislative hurdle last week with Senate passage, would prevent police from handing over detainees arrested for non-violent crimes to federal immigration officials for possible deportation. Immigration holds could still be put on people charged or convicted of serious or violent felonies. Riverside and San Bernardino counties are among more than 3,000 jurisdictions nationwide that...

MassResistance has filed a "taxpayer lawsuit" by 31 citizens across the state against the Governor's Council, including the Governor and the Lt. Governor, citing serious constitutional and procedural issues in the way they approve judges. This is also in preparation to file an order to stop the swearing-in of a left-wing activist nominee recently approved. In recent years Massachusetts has become infamous for its activist anti-family judges. Some well-known cases include the groundbreaking 2003 Goodridge ruling that forced same-sex "marriage" on the state, and the 1995 South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade case granting the "right" to a homosexual group...

In a further attempt to divert attention from the GOP convention in Tampa, Obama will announce tomorrow that he is going to skip the Democrat Convention next week, where he will be nominated for a second term. Instead, the WH will reveal Obama's new schedule, which will let him hold 17 fundraisers, and squeeze in 5 rounds of golf in a three day period.

I want to give you a few predictions and then tell I’ll you who they’re from. It might surprise you. Prediction number 1: We’re heading headlong into a financial meat grinder. Prediction number 2: We’re about to plunge off a financial cliff. Prediction number 3: Major market meltdown the likes of which we’ve never seen is upon on us. This wasn’t from some alternative media site or somebody that’s peddling gloom and doom. The first one is from JP Morgan, the second from Ben Bernanke, and the third was from Steven Rattner, former Obama Treasury adviser.

It is the dogma of our time that proponents of government safety net programs hold the moral high ground. Accordingly, Democrats preen over their own “compassion”; and Republicans chime in that they too “believe in safety net programs.” But safety net programs are unconstitutional and immoral. They are unconstitutional because “charity” is not one of the enumerated powers of the federal government.1 They are immoral because they are based on a fabricated system of man-made anti-rights which negate the Rights God gave us. I The Origin of Rights and the Purpose of Civil Government The Declaration of Independence sets forth...

Nils Pickert's five-year-old son likes to wear dresses, and Nils was concerned that he was going to grow up without a strong, positive role model. So he did what any mind-bogglingly incredible dad would do: he started wearing skirts himself. [Translated from the German]: "My five year old son likes to wear dresses. In Berlin Kreuzberg that alone would be enough to get into conversation with other parents. Is it wise or ridiculous? "Neither one nor the other!“ I still want to shout back at them. But sadly they can’t hear me any more. Because by now I live in...

Suppose you went to eat at a strange restaurant and, upon asking the waitress what was good on the menu, she told you that she didn’t know because she never ate there. When you ask why, she explains that the food and atmosphere are much better at her favorite place, and even though the food costs more, it’s worth it. You would naturally attribute a great deal of credibility to this waitress because she was honest enough to point you away from the place where she has a personal stake in its success. In other words, you would trust her...

TAMPA, Fla. — Police in Tampa stopped a dozen anti-war protesters from entering an event attended by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice after the group said it intended to arrest her for war crimes. The protesters from Code Pink carried handcuffs Tuesday and tried to enter a performing arts center. Rice was attending an event in conjunction with the Republican National Convention. They said they wanted to make a citizen's arrest of Rice. She was George W. Bush's National Security Adviser when the Iraq War started in 2003. Officers told protesters to leave because they were on private property...

Starting to smoke pot in your teens can lead to cognitive decline not seen in those who start as adults. Becoming a heavy cannabis smoker as a teenager results in cognitive decline not seen if the illicit drug use starts when adult. Clinical psychologist Madeline Meier at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and her colleagues used data from the famous Dunedin Longitudinal Study, an ongoing multi-factor survey involving a cohort of 1,037 New Zealanders followed from birth, which now has 40 years worth of data. Participants in the Dunedin Study had been periodically tested for IQ and other neuropsychological...

States shouldn't be in a hurry to begin working on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges. That's the viewpiont of many states (not Michigan) and of J.P. Wieske, legislative liaison for the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. "For us, the issue is whether or not it's good public policy to move ahead," Wieske told Capitol Confidential. "Our view is that it is more prudent to wait and see what happens." Under the act, which is commonly known as Obamacare, states can develop their own exchanges. It has been argued that if states don't act first, the...

In what can only be described as a pitiful attempt to distract Americans from the obvious truth which is being written, and rewritten in American blood multiple times per week, General Allen excused the actions of Afghanistan's "True Soldiers of Allah". He very publicly declared that the "stresses" endured by ANA and ANP troops who participated in the month long Ramadan fast, have contributed to the very existence of "insider" attacks. Apparently, for the General, this is an acceptable explanation for "vetted" Afghan's to turn the weapons Americans have given them, against their benefactors. It wasn't long ago we heard...

You may not agree with what Heinlein says here but he is speaking directly across the years to Ron Paul and his people at the Republican National Convention.

Bill Nye used to be “The Science Guy” on PBS. Now he’s just a godless hater. The former host of the “educational” TV show targeted to preteens, which aired from 1993 to 1998, said this week that those of us who believe that God created man and woman are idiots. And that we ought not pass along that belief to our children. “I say to the grownups,” Nye condescended, “if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, your world that’s inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine. But don’t make your kids do it.”...

As ATR noted last week, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has come under fire for simply asking state government employees to contribute a modest amount to help the state cover the rising cost of their health insurance. Listening to the heat that Gov. Haley is taking for this fiscally prudent decision, one would be surprised to find out that Haley’s action will result in government workers paying just a paltry $8 per month extra. Her critics in the legislature and in government employee unions would rather South Carolina taxpayers foot the entire bill. Given the record of some of her...

Disinformation is a potent weapon. It is the basis of every psychological operation in modern warfare. Psy-ops as these disinformation stunts are called are a collection of the lies told to us every day. They tell us lies about a “close race” to force us to pay attention to their polls. Here are the facts about where the largest and most important voting blocs are in relation to 2008 and today. There is not a single voting bloc of any size that Obama lost in 2008, but is now leading. There are no blocs that he lost but has cut...
