In a troubling development, Georgia authorities have made public audio recordings from a 2023 visit to the home of Colt Gray, the 14-year-old accused of committing a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals. This visit was prompted by an anonymous tip to the FBI regarding threats made in a Discord group chat, where Gray allegedly expressed intentions to “shoot up a middle school.” On May 21, 2023, Jackson County sheriff’s officers conducted a face-to-face interview with Gray, who was just 13 years old at the time. The officers detailed their...

On Monday and Tuesday, NBC weatherman Al Roker reported live from Utqiagvik, Alaska, the northernmost town in the United States, labeling it “ground zero for climate change.” Throughout the segment, Roker implored the nation to “make a commitment” to abandon fossil fuels and assured viewers: “This is not a theory, this is reality here.” “We are back with our special series Al in the Arctic. Al’s there exploring an issue that a lot of folks all over the world are concerned about, and rightfully so, climate change,” co-host Craig Melvin announced during the Today show’s 8:00 a.m. ET hour on...

Residents in the nation’s northernmost community have voted to change the name of the Alaska town to its traditional Inupiat Eskimo name. A slight majority of voters in the largely Inupiat city of Barrow approved efforts to change the community’s name to Utqiagvik (oot-GHAR-vik) in their local election Oct. 4. The vote was tight, with 381 in favor of the name change and 375 against it. “Basically, it reinforces the cultural identity of the people,” said Mayor Bob Harcharek, who is not Native. He noted that early day missionaries set up schools in the area where students were forbidden to...

Rep. John Barrow’s ad two years ago about how “my grandfather used this little Smith and Wesson here to help stop a lynching” was widely recognized as one of the best of the cycle. The Augusta Democrat is out today with a sequel in which he bears his grandfather’s gun again, and pulls out his concealed carry permit along with it. (SNIP) The main critique of Allen is that he supported, and Barrow voted against, a supplemental appropriations bill passed in early August to focus on the children coming across the Mexican border. It included a lot of money for...

Bernadette Adams became the first known woman in Barrow history to harpoon a whale, when she struck the bowhead pictured here 20 miles offshore from the Arctic community. Bernadette Adams remembers pitching fits as a young girl out on the sea ice wanting desperately to go out whaling with her father. With no brothers, her hunting career started at a young age. And last week, she made local history as the first woman in the community to harpoon a bowhead. Usually women don’t go out in boats with the whaling crews. And while community members in Barrow are touting her...

Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) has cosponsored Rep. Phil Gingrey's (R-Ga.) Nuclear Family Priority Act, H.R.477, that would eliminate the extended family visa categories (e.g., married sons and daughters of citizens, etc.), thus ending "chain migration" as recommended by the bipartisan Barbara Jordan Commission in 1997. Current immigration law allows U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor non-nuclear, adult family members, creating an endless chain of mass legal immigration.

ATLANTA - With just over a week to go before Election Day, the match-up between U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Savannah, and former Congressmen Max Burns remains extremely tight, according to poll results announced Friday. The latest survey in the 12th District congressional race shows Barrow with a slight edge over Burns - 42 percent to 39 percent - among voters who say they will cast ballots on Nov. 7. But considering that the margin of error is 6 percentage points, the poll indicates the two candidates are running neck and neck. A high number of respondents - 19 percent -...
