Nature abhors a vacuum, the saying goes. Of late, the democrat party has been in a vacuum, trying desperately to find something to justify its existence. The best they have come up recently is the to rush to aid and defend illegal alien murderers, rapists and child traffickers. Of and by itself it wasn't attracting the kind of attention they've been desirous of, so they hatched a new plan to get it. There are two ICE detention facilities in New Jersey, one in Elizabeth and one in Newark. The mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, decided he was going to storm...

This week, Newark Mayor and New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Ras Baraka (D) entered the Delaney Hall Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center and asserted "this facility cannot be legally operated in Newark. Newark is a sanctuary city that welcomes immigrants. The planned living conditions at Delaney Hall do not fulfill the standards we require for these new Americans. ICE wants to lock them up in cages. We insist upon hotel accommodations." Acting US Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba pointed out that "so-called 'sanctuary cities' contradict federal law. They may have been tolerated under the lawless...

On Monday’s broadcast of ABC’s “GMA3,” Newark Mayor Ras Baraka stated that ICE is engaging in “this witch hunt for people who they say may be murderers or rapists or criminals. I don’t know how you determine a criminal simply by looking at them or somebody that’s undocumented simply by looking at them, particularly in a place like Newark, New Jersey, where there’s high levels of diversity, of people from different parts of the world here.” Baraka stated, “Well, so three undocumented folks were detained, taken away by [ICE]. But there [was] a whole store full of other folks who...

[Editor’s note: Make sure to read Robert Spencer’s contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]According to a hadith, Muhammad said, “War is deceit.” (Bukhari 4.52.268). Anyone who quotes this, however, has been condemned as “Islamophobic” by all the “experts” who believed Hamas. Will they learn anything now? No.“Senior Hamas Official Ali Baraka: We Have Been Secretly Planning The Invasion For Two Years; Russia Sympathizes With Us, Benefits From U.S. Embroilment In This War; Any Swap Deal Should Include Hamas Prisoners In Europe And The U.S.,” MEMRI, October 8, 2023:Senior Hamas official Ali Baraka...

Mayor Ras J. Baraka today said he will ask the Newark City Council to approve an ordinance that will denounce hate crimes and racism, police brutality and declare white supremacy groups as terrorists in the City of Newark. “We are long overdue on a measure such as this,” Baraka said. “For this country to heal, we must begin to legally challenge the insidious and dehumanizing tenets of white supremacy, once and for all. We must stand up forcefully against racism and have the courage to take on the legal challenges an ordinance such as this will attract.” Newark Corporation Counsel...

The mayor of New Jersey’s largest city on Thursday labeled ongoing efforts to defund or abolish police departments a “bourgeois liberal” solution for addressing systemic problems that extend far beyond city police departments. “I think it’s kind of a knee-jerk reaction,” said Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, a progressive Democrat, during a telephone press conference. “I think there needs to be significant reforms … [but] to get rid of the police department — who would respond to calls for service for violence and domestic abuse?” […] Baraka’s comments on Thursday came as he touted an ordinance passed by the City Council...

Getting a paycheck for doing nothing could be in the future for residents of New Jersey’s largest city. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka says the city is going to study a pilot program to provide a universal basic income, or basically guaranteeing income for all residents whether they have a job. […] The city has launched a taskforce to see if the program is feasible with help from the Economic Security Project and the Jain Institute. […] There has not been a successful long-term Universal Basic Income program. A small basic-income program that was tested in Finland was ended after one...

Ajamu Baraka, professorial with kind eyes, was an accomplished human-rights activist before joining the Green Party ticket as Jill Stein’s running mate. But the two leftist candidates—due for a mainstream close-up in a CNN town hall on Wednesday—also have engaged with some fringe thinkers and conspiracy theories. Baraka, especially, has an accomplished résumé in this field. Earlier this year, the former executive director of the U.S. Human Rights Network had his work featured in a book edited by accused Holocaust denier (“the Holocaust controversy was a legitimate topic of historical debate”) and self-described 9/11 truther Kevin Barrett. The book, Another...

NEWARK — Mayor Ras Baraka has penned a letter to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and other Cabinet members, asking them to immediately stop the expansion of Middle East-based airlines into domestic markets which he says could threaten the city's airport and economy. The missive, also addressed to Transportation Secretary Anthony R. Foxx and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, said carriers are subsidized by their governments and could cut into markets carved out by domestic outfits such as United Airlines, which provides thousands of jobs to Newark-area residents.

They have the heft of an ax, a blade nearly as long as a sword, and the intimidation power to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Cheap and easily bought, machetes in America have commonly been reserved for underbrush and sugar-cane cutting. But now, in a spreading trend that so far has drawn little national attention, criminals are using machetes as weapons, striking fear in cities and towns across the country. Witness these recent incidents: In the heartland Indiana city of Evansville in February, a robber pulled a machete on a convenience-store cashier, who put...

In a major development in his probe of Barack Obama’s eligibility for Arizona’s 2012 presidential ballot, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has dispatched his lead Cold Case Posse investigator and a deputy detective to Hawaii. The mission to Obama’s purported birthplace comes as the Hawaii Department of Health continues to resist efforts by Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett to verify that the Honolulu agency has a valid birth certificate on file for Obama.

Concerning Somebody Blew Up AmericaIn the second stanza of the poem, Amiri Baraka puts Bret Schundler in the company of David Duke and Jesse Helms. Bret Schundler was Mayor of Jersey City for a decade. Jersey City is just one station away from Newark on the PATH subway. Amiri Baraka spoke in Jersey City at least once while Schundler was Mayor. For the previous forty years, the entrenched political organization let the African-American neighborhoods of Jersey City die and rot. Under the leadership of Bret Schundler, major redevelopment projects stopped and reversed this decay. So why would Baraka lump Schundler...

Amiri Baraka, the new Poet Laureate of New Jersey (yes, there is one) is under fire for composing a ghastly poem full of loathing for U.S. President George Bush, "Israelis" (by which he means "Jews") and whites in general. On Wednesday, he took the podium at a Newark literary festival and embraced the conspiracy theory that Mr. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon knew in advance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. We at the National Post are commemorating his artistic achievements with a poem of our own. Unlike the Poet Laureate, we apologize in advance for any pain...
