Ever wonder what your flight attendant really thinks of you? What they’d tell you if they had the nerve? Or weren’t afraid of being fired? What deep, dark secrets would they reveal about their jobs? I have a number of friends who work as flight attendants. One of them recently retired after 20 years flying for the most storied name in commercial aviation, while others work for less glamorous domestic U.S. airlines. I asked them what they’d tell their passengers if they could tell them anything at all, or what secrets they’d reveal only if granted complete anonymity. All I...

WILMINGTON --Carl Persing's "public display of sexual affection" for his girlfriend on a Raleigh-bound flight last fall -- and threats to a flight attendant who asked him to stop -- landed him in a federal trial, a prosecutor said Monday. Persing, 40, of Lakewood, Ca., is charged with interfering with a flight attendant on the Sept. 15 Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix. His girlfriend, Dawn Elizabeth Sewell, 40, is charged with assisting him. Flight attendant Frank McCabe, 29, testified Monday that Persing and Sewell sat together in the second row, and that Persing was glassy-eyed. Before takeoff, McCabe said, Persing...

An elevator attendant on duty in China. The elevator must be a big one, like a cargo elevator. You see a long stick on the front side of the right wall next to button panel. It is used by the attendant to poke at the buttons without standing up from the chair.

FORT HUACHUCA — While many 40-year-old soldiers are looking to end a 20-year career in the Army, Brian Esip is just starting his. Some call him the old man, grandpa and other endearing elderly terms because many of them are young enough to be his kids. “Most of the soldiers my age are closer to retirement. It’s a paradox. I’m just beginning my Army career,” Esip said Tuesday. He took advantage of the increase in the age limit for people to enlist. The age limit was changed to 39 in the Reserves in March 2005, and President George W. Bush’s...

The national president of the flight attendants union is threatening a nationwide strike against all airlines if any labor contracts are abrogated by a bankruptcy judge. Both United Airlines and US Airways have asked a U.S. Bankruptcy Court to impose a series of concessions if consensual cost-cutting deals can not be reached soon. "Airline management needs to understand that there will be serious consequences if they persist in their attacks on our contracts," said Pat Friend, president of the Association of Flight Attendants, which represents attendants at 26 airlines, including United and US Airways. Leaders of the union are meeting...

WEDNESDAY February 04, 2004 Attendant's bombshell leads to groom's arrest By Ashley Broughton The Salt Lake Tribune Instead of riding into the sunset with his beloved, a wayward groom earned a trip to the Davis County Jail on his wedding day after a brawl between the bride-to-be and the honor attendant, Centerville police said. About 12:15 p.m. Saturday, the bride, 20, her mother and the attendant went to the Centerville Target store to buy makeup for the wedding later that day, Lt. Paul Child said. The three were still in the parking lot, police said, when the honor attendant told...

Rash of flight credential thefts reaches Midlands By LORA HINES Staff Writer The FBI usually couldn't be bothered with investigating minor break-ins at a hotel. But two room burglaries in Columbia earlier this week have their attention. A couple of weeks ago, airlines were warned by the Transportation Security Administration to watch for people with stolen credentials posing as airline officials. The warning went out after two flight attendants said their uniforms, crew-bag tags, flight attendant wings, flight books, ID cards and a key to an airplane storage compartment had been stolen from their New York apartment. Little else was...
