On the face of it, Friday’s decision by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn an injunction against enforcement of Illinois’ recently enacted ban on “assault weapons” and “large capacity” magazines doesn’t change circumstances on the ground. The three-judge panel that issued today’s decision had previously stayed U.S. District Judge Stephen McGlynn’s injunction while the state appealed, so the law has been in effect throughout litigation. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) reacted to the Wednesday night attacks in Lewiston, Maine, by pushing an “assault weapons” ban (again). Police have yet to identify the firearm used in the attacks, although photographs of the person of interest appears to be holding some sort of long gun. Murphy responded by posting to X, “Another deeply mentally ill man, armed with a military semi-automatic rifle, commits mass murder. This isn’t hard. a. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones (D) announced plans Tuesday to ban AR-15s and AK-47s inside city limits. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a bill containing the ban will soon come before the Board of Aldermen and will contain other gun controls as well. Regulations on gun kits are some of the other controls expected in the bill. Steven Spainhouer, one of the first people on scene at the mass shooting in Allen, Texas, has called for M4s and AR-15s to be removed from the streets despite admitting he is a 'gun lover.' The former police and army officer said that it is long pastime automatic weapons were removed from everyday public life, on account of the rising number of mass shootings. 'I'm a gun lover, I have guns. But these M4s, AR-15s, they've got to get off the streets or this is going to keep happening, and we've got to stop that at some point,' he continued.

Philadelphia gas station owner Neil Patel hired security guards with AR-15s to deal with all the “nonsense, drug trafficking, hanging around, [and] gangs” endangering his employees. Patel, who has a Karco gas station, hired “Pennsylvania S.I.T.E Agents clad with Kevlar vest and AR-15s or shotguns” to keep his employees safe, FOX 29 reports. “They are forcing us to hire the security, high-level security, state level.
