NEW YORK - A growing list of potential protesters — including abortion-rights supporters, anti-war activists and even off-duty police officers — wants permission to hold demonstrations during the Republican National Convention, police officials said Friday. About 17 organizations have contacted the NYPD so far about permits that would allow them to legally march and rally outside the convention at Madison Square Garden and at other sites around Manhattan. More are expected to apply before a June 15 deadline. Authorities say the applications could overlap and conflict in demands for times and space. One request by an anti-war group has been...

U.S. OUT OF IRAQ Bring the Troops Home Now Money for jobs, education and healthcare - Not for wars of aggression Nationally-coordinated demonstrations, rallies, teach-ins, and forums on the anniversary of George W. Bush's declaration of the end of major combat operations in Iraq. May 1 was the date that George Bush dressed up like a soldier, flew onto the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, and posed for that disgusting photo op where he could claim credit for the conquering of Iraq. Far from having ended major military combat, the war in Iraq only intensified. More U.S. soldiers have been...

Borrowing a page from North Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap, Osama bin Laden is making the US and European "peace" movement an instrument of his strategy. The al Qaeda leader's most recent tape, aired on Al Jazeera April 15, "appeared to mark a new strategy of trying to manipulate antiwar sentiment in Europe to bring pressure on governments that support the United States," according to the Washington Post. Spanish voters' election of an anti-American socialist in the days following the March train bombings in Madrid encouraged al Qaeda. In his tape, the Post reports, "Bin Laden refers to demonstrations in...

Eighty-five years ago, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes authored the Supreme Court's opinion condemning a man named Debs for causing and inciting "insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny and refusal of duty in the military and naval forces of the United States and with intent so to do delivered, to an assembly of people, a public speech ..."[1] Under the Espionage Act of 1917[2], it mattered most that Mr. Debs prosecuted his anti-war message while his countrymen were fighting World War I in Europe. Mr. Debs gave his speech on June 16, 1918, three months after the U.S. joined Allied Forces heavily engaged in...

"When I showed up, a few moonbats were slowly circling around the stage, gathering their righteous energy for the impending rage against the machine. The crowd included button-hawkers, LaRouche supporters, some misguided college gals and a couple of hippy booksellers. When I took the picture of the books, I was questioned by the lady behind the table as to whether I was a journalist. I told her "no, more of a freelance hobbyist," at which point I got a barrage of questions from her and her friend, who seemed acutely sensitive to the possibility that someone may be taking photos...

(snip)Between 2,000 and 3,000 people came to United Nations Plaza and marched down Market Street. Police reported no problems or arrests. International A.N.S.W.E.R. organized the "emergency" action last week after a new wave of fighting began in the Iraqi city of Fallujah. (snip) "The only way the United States is going to leave Iraq, which is very unfortunate, is if the Iraqi resistance militarily wins," said Joshua Deutsch, 22, a public health student at UC Berkeley with a "Long Live Fallujah" sign. Deutsch said he hoped as few U.S. troops are killed as possible, but "There is a right side...

Media coverage of so-called "anti-war" demonstrations has gotten so bad that many reporters don't even mention the names of the communist fronts that organize them. Such was the case with the New York Times coverage of a rally in New York City on March 20 that drew several thousand people. The official sponsors, International ANSWER and United for Peace and Justice, weren't even mentioned. The communists behind these groups were even more anonymous

There has been much good work done by FReepers this past weekend. Although I was unable to directly participate, I thought that compiling a summary of all the threads on the counter-protests would be a worthwhile endeavor, and might redeem me for my lack of participation. And Bravo! to all you FReepers who participated and otherwise helped.

International ANSWER has been outstanding at masking its true, totalitarian goals. The Workers World Party front group, which has ties to North Korea, saw itself in the vanguard of last year's "peace" marches. And ANSWER sought to regain that position last Saturday, March 20, with a worldwide series of marches designed to protest the liberation of Iraq one year ago. A bulk email sent by International ANSWER a couple of days before the front group’s March 20th “mass mobilization” [in conjunction with other groups, notably the Communist-led “United for Peace and Justice”] to “stop occupation and war in Haiti, Palestine,...

We were joined by three native New Yorkers including a soldier home on leave from Iraq. We were a total of eight in all. Walking around in a parade of 30,000 people (NYPD estimate). With our signs we were easy targets for verbal attacks. The worst of which was directed at BR who was holding an American flag. The...

To whom it may concern, How do you call your organization tolerant when you are so anti-Semitic? Your signs and website messages calling for a "Free Palestine" are abhorrent! You want to end racism, but you are discriminating against Jews? Here is a question for you to ponder: why is it that the "Palestinians" (I use quotes because there is no longer any such thing as Palestine) left Israel (notice I use Israel, because that is the proper name of the country) a wasteland. Then World War II ravaged the Jewish population, and the English gave ISRAEL to the Jews...
