Numerous Democratic lawmakers have denounced efforts to reform USAID as illegal, unconstitutional, or even – according to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) – tyrannical. Upon further inquiry, it appears the seemingly innocuous agency has been using a facade of philanthropic activities to conceal its more profound mission, which, ironically, many would call illegal, unconstitutional, and tyrannical.

The Squad celebrated July Fourth by condemning the country they represent. “This July 4th, we must remember that we stand on stolen land toiled by enslaved Africans and recommit ourselves to the fight for freedom, equality, & justice so that these ideals are accessible to everyone, not just a privileged few,” tweeted Rep. Jamaal Bowman. “We are not free until everyone is truly free.” “The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human,” declared Rep. Cori Bush on Twitter. “Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now.” The tweet signed off with a...

Customers at a Staten Island Home Depot were shocked to see one of the company’s employees wearing an “America Was Never Great” hat earlier this week. Krystal Lake, 22, of St. George got political during a shift on Tuesday. Her twist on Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s slogan was immediately shared online. Ms. Lake said the social media furor between those who said she correct, and those who thought she was both unprofessional and wrong, was unexpected.

Now will we grasp that the United States is not our friend, but a foreign country whose interests are often different from ours? President Obama's blatant intervention in our internal affairs is not a sudden breach of a soppy 'special relationship'. The USA's only real special relationship is with Saudi Arabia, a 70-year old hard pact of oil, money and power, welded together with such cynicism it out to make up gasp. Barack Obama's open desire for us to stay inside the EU is by no means the first or worst example of White House meddling here in these islands....

President Barack Obama, addressing a tribal nations conference at the White House last week, announded that the U.S. government is now supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, which includes a sweeping declaration that "indigenous peoples" have a right to lands and resources they traditionally occupied or "otherwise used." "Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired," says the U.N. resolution. The Bush administration had declined to support the resolution. At the White House Tribal Nations Conference, Obama reminded the group that...

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore drew cheers at 190-nation talks by saying the United States was the main block to launching negotiations in Bali on a new global climate treaty. Gore stole the show in Bali after two days of lengthy ministerial speeches which had waxed on familiar themes about the urgency of action to slow global warming and the need for cooperation. ... Well, here we go again. Another Eurotrash, elitist whining that there is a US flag in an American movie... Ending an inconsequential review of the upcoming movie Spider-Man 3, Timesonline reviewer Leo Lewis complains: Also disappointing is the inability of the director, Sam Raimi, to end the romp without a fleeting shot of the American flag. The Stars and Stripes just happens to be fluttering behind Spidey as he makes his triumphal return to honour, probity and good honest fist-fighting. Lewis acts as if an American movie based on an American icon of the American comic book industry must somehow...

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow insisted Monday that contrary to a recent article in a European newspaper, she feels "proud to be American" and would never compare her homeland unfavorably to Britain. In a statement issued through People magazine's Web site, Paltrow said she was "deeply upset" by remarks attributed to her by the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias, which quoted the actress as saying: "The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans." "I never, ever would have said that," said Paltrow, 34, who is married to British rock star Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, and...

BAGHDAD - Preliminary investigation has identified the bodies of two missing soldiers, Pfc. Thomas Lowell Tucker, 25, of Madras, Oregon, and Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, Texas. They were found not far from the checkpoint from which they were abducted.. Positive identification will be done back in the US because the bodies were badly mutilated from severe torture. This is the very thing thinking Americans have been afraid would happen. All the heinous tortures authorized by Bush and performed by American soldiers, Military Intelligence, CIA, FBI, NSA and other agencies have come home to roost. This time America got...

June 08, 2006 War Criminal Nation By Paul Craig Roberts Faced with mounting civilian carnage, both from war crimes committed by demoralized and broken US troops and from the raging civil war unleashed by Bush’s ill-fated illegal invasion of Iraq, the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee has decided to waste another $50 billion to continue the lost war for five more months. Our elected "representatives" are so in thrall to the powerful military- industrial complex that no amount of American shame, pariah status and military defeat can shut off the flow of taxpayers’ funds to the merchants of death. Bush’s wars...

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has a problem. With us. We are Canada's #1 trading partner. 90% of all Canadians live within 100 miles of the U.S. border. The failing Canadian economy--with bloated taxes (including the regressive G.S.T.), a plague-ridden socialized national health care system (the best do not become doctors there), scores of people on welfare (New Foundland, anyone?), and a province where people who pretend not to know English insist on speaking a foreign language and want to become a foreign country. So why is Paul Martin attacking America on the campaign trail? Because he's desperate to get...

Evacuations are not a benign process. Twenty-four people were killed when a bus carrying 38 Houston nursing home residents and six employees caught fire in a traffic jam. It's thought that oxygen tanks used by elderly evacuees had a role in the fire. Given the hurricane predictions for Houston and Galveston, one can't blame officials for ordering evacuations, but the lesson to be learned is evacuations can be costly. In addition to injuries and loss of life, when evacuations are ordered, there are costs associated with opportunistic criminal behavior such as looting, which there were reports of in Houston.

If Americans had to be described with one word, there's a good chance it would be 'fat'. Americans, we are constantly told, are the fattest people on the planet. Obesity is rife. Compared with other nations the Americans are not just big, but super-size. Yet this obsession with obese Americans is about more than body fat. Certainly there is a debate to be had about the extent to which obesity is a problem in America - a discussion best left to medical experts. But a close examination of the popular genre on obesity reveals it is about more than consumption...

LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2005 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) – A hate message scrawled on the inside cover of a Qur’an copy has rekindled fears of increasing discrimination against American Muslims in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. “I was taken back to 9/11, my fear that somebody is going to hurt me,” Azza Basarudin, a graduate student, told a news conference at the Islamic Center of Southern California in Los Angeles, reported Los Angeles Times on Thursday, May 19. She had discovered a “Death to all Muslims” message on the inside cover of a Qur’an copy she ordered from...

We have been inundated with messages responding to our posts on the graduation remarks by PepsiCo president Indra Nooyi at the Columbia Business School MBA recognition ceremony of this past Sunday. Many readers (approximately a third) have written to comment that, unlike our rapporteur -- graduating Columbia MBA Wes Martin -- they did not find Ms. Nooyi's remarks objectionable. I am grateful that PepsiCo posted the remarks today (together with the accompanying statement) and that we can all determine the issue for ourselves based on "the ocular proof." The Harvard-Yale game this year was played in Cambridge. Consistent with some...

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has an angelic face, an odd name – and not much else. (Her most memorable role to date was playing a masochist in the movie, "The Secretary.") But Gyllenhaal knows how to get the attention of the Hollywood establishment: just bash America. Tell the world how conscience compels you to trash your country. Make vague allegations about the awful things America has done and how we brought terrorism on ourselves. All the while, congratulate yourself for your honesty and nobility in taking such a courageous stand. The actress, who appears in "The Great New Wonderful Thing" (about...
