Republicans hold a 4-point advantage over Democrats with the midterm elections less than a month away, according to a New York Times-Siena College poll published Monday. About 49 percent of likely voters said they would back the GOP nominee, while 45 percent said they would support a Democratic candidate. The figures are rounded; when the unrounded figures are used, the GOP holds closer to a 3-point edge at 48.51 percent to 45.47 percent. This is a shift since September, when the Times poll found Democrats holding a slim 1-point edge over Republicans among likely voters.

The House is in play for the first time this cycle as Democrats continue to build momentum, but the GOP remains the favorite to take control. This edition of the Fox News Power Rankings looks at shifts toward Democrats in nine battleground House races and two key Senate races. Meanwhile, the GOP makes gains in the Georgia and Oregon governor races. Republicans can expect a 13-seat majority in the latest House forecast (a total of 231 seats), leaving the Democrats with a 14-seat deficit (204 seats). These numbers reflect a shift of three seats away from the GOP since August....

Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” network host Al Sharpton addressed what he referred to as “latte liberals,” who he described as liberals who are not aware of the progress being made in the black community as they sit in the Hamptons and drink lattes. Sharpton lamented that a particular group of liberals has “taken advantage” of the “pain” of black people and people of the LGBTQ community rather than trying to ease their pain.

This is going to be a close election. It was always going to be close. Talk of a Biden “blowout” or a Trump “landslide” is just that — talk. Since the election will come down to a few battleground states — or perhaps one or two — counting votes in those states will be critical. And the question of who gets to do the counting matters more in this election than in any other since the 2000 presidential contest. Then, Republicans had the advantage in Florida with a GOP secretary of state. Katherine Harris followed the letter of the law in...

Election 2018: While the Democrats and their sycophantic allies in the “mainstream” media have tried to assassinate the character of a good man and lifelong public servant as well as his family, they have also done the Republican Party a huge favor. The more Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh is savaged by the lunatic Left, the higher in the polls GOP House and Senate candidates rise.

Democrats' already wide advantage over Republicans in a hypothetical Congressional matchup has grown, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. At the same time, enthusiasm about voting next year has increased among Democrats nationwide following an unexpected win in Alabama's Senate special election and a strong showing in Virginia's state government elections last month. Among registered voters, 56% say they favor a Democrat in their congressional district, while 38% prefer a Republican. That 18-point edge is the widest Democrats have held in CNN polling on the 2018 contests, and the largest at this point in midterm election cycles...

Polls conducted before the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary indicated that Republicans were more fired up than Democrats to vote this year. Looks like they've followed through--so far, at least. It was the Democrats who benefitted from a wide "enthusiasm gap" over the GOP in the 2008 election cycle, with their voters turning out in droves to help propel Barack Obama to the presidency. But Republicans are seeing the historic surge this time around, with a record number of caucus goers in Iowa and a level of voter participation in New Hampshire that nearly matched the booming Democratic turnout...

Believing in this president is proving to be a health hazard. ~snip~ The liar is none other than the President of the United States. On June 15, 2009, President Obama told a town hall meeting that “No matter how we reform healthcare, we will keep this promise…. if you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.” The fine print in his health law proves that he never intended to keep that promise. Sec. 1251(a)(1) of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) says that no...

Though Democrats denied it during the 2012 campaign, Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion in order to partially fund $1.9 trillion in new entitlement spending over the next ten years. A big chunk of those Medicare cuts came from the market-oriented Medicare Advantage program. Cleverly, the Obama administration postponed the Medicare Advantage cuts until after the election, so as to persuade seniors that everything would be just fine. But the election is over. On Friday, the administration announced that it would be significantly reducing funding for the popular program. Obama’s proposal, according to one analyst, “would turn almost every plan...

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa has threatened to subpoena the Department of Health and Human Services if it does not turn over documents by Thursday on a program he claims is being used to "buy" the election by hiding the effects of ObamaCare. Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, made his demands in a letter late Wednesday to Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. His office effectively is accusing the department of stringing them along in their months-old request for documents about an $8 billion program that pays bonuses to Medicare Advantage plans.

Thursday night in Charlotte, Barack Obama doubled down on his liberalism, articulating the case for big government, greater regulation, and more spending (which he calls “investing”). He defined a choice that is starkly ideological, courageously embracing the left. We have not seen such positioning since the days of Mike Dukakis and Walter Mondale. And with good reason: the American people are conservative. Asked in a recent poll, “would you rather that government get out of your way or lend you a hand?” Americans voted 54% to 35% for the government to get out of the way. It was odd to...

It's anybody's guess as to whether Herman Cain can go the distance. But here's another item to put on the plus side of the scales. The Dems have gotten considerable mileage out of accusations of scientific illiteracy on the part of the GOP candidates. This is largely due to the healthy stand taken by most of the field against global warming panic, but has also Rick Perry's clumsiness in dealing with questions concerning evolution and Michelle B's ill-advised attack on the Gardasil vaccine. (There's scarcely a vaccine in the medical armory that hasn't been accused of causing "retardation" at one...

On a sweltering August morning, in a classroom overlooking New York's Hudson River, a group of 3-year-olds are rolling sticky rice balls in chocolate sprinkles, as a teacher guides them completely in Mandarin. This is just one toddler learning game at the total--immersion language summer camp run by the primary school Bilingual Buds, which offers a year-round curriculum in Mandarin as well as Spanish (at a New Jersey campus) for kids as young as 2. Bilingualism, of course, can be a leg up for college admission and a rsum burnisher. But a growing body of research now offers a further...

The results of this poll were posted earlier but the internals are even more interesting. The only groups where McCain polled ahead of Romney were the Over 65 group, Women, Blacks and Democrats. And of those groups, only the Democrats and the Seniors had a difference of greater than one percentage point. The Dems liked him the most, by 2.4 percent over Romney and the Seniors liked McCain by a marign of 1.3 percent. The most interesting statistic I found in this data is that Independents, supposedly McCain's strong suit, prefer Rommey by 8.7 percent. This does not bode well...
