Free Republic and Jim Robinson's Finances Miscellaneous Free Republic Source: Free Republic Published: 07/15/99 Author: Jim Robinson Posted on 07/15/1999 01:02:53 PDT by Jim Robinson Just trying to set the record straight. Even though it's boring, I'll have to go back a few years to lay the groundwork for the story. Warning: it's boring so you might just want to skip this whole thing and go on to a real article... but for those of you who are spreading the gruesome rumors of Jim Robinson ripping off the FReepers, here's the real accounting of Free Republic. During the 70's and...

The following email is being circulated to our members by various disgruntled former FReepers: Subject: The Future of Our Free Republic Dear Fellow Free Republic Member, Many of us at Free Republic are distressed by the extraordinary level of censorship that has been so obviously going on. It is very obvious that individual posts, entire threads, and the entire work of members who have been highly regarded are disappearing into a Memory Hole. Scores of us have organized an e-mail network that is independent of the communication controls presently, and sadly, being used at our Free Republic. We have carefully...

Hi all, It's time again for another posting refresher course. Thanks for your cooperation. Only one these topics will show up in the sidebars, posting to multiple topics will still only show one topic. Activism/Chapters - Activism, protests, news and business of Free Republic Chapters. Freep this poll should be placed in vanity. General news stories about activism should be place in news. After action reports from Freeps are allowed here. Announcements – Notifications of Activism events, FR business Breaking News - Not every story is breaking news. Breaking news should be news that affects most of us. There are...

Hello everyone. I hope you are all having a good evening. At various times today there have been upwards of 8 different stories at the same time posted to breaking news, and it does not seem like we go more than a half hour before yet another goes in.We are all thrilled that progress is being made. But it really is not helping matters to overwhelm everything in the forum with every new detail. So please, let's try to keep the new posts to the breaking news sidebar to a reasonable level.Along the same lines, just like any story that is emotionally...

Wow! Is this war over or what? Looks like the Iraqi government has totally collapsed and the Iraqis are celebrating in the streets. Hallelujah!

The Los Angeles Times and the Democrat corruption machine must be defeated!! No ifs, ands, or buts about it!

This is bigger than Schwarzenegger vs McClintock, bigger than Republican vs Democrat, and even bigger than conservative vs liberal. This is for our American way of life vs the dark side. Not just for California, but for all of America. The leadership of the Democrat Party and their official party platform of corruption, abortion, homosexualism, socialism, slavery to big government, slavery to over-taxation, slavery to terrorism and willing subjugation to foreign powers and world bodies is pure evil. Yes, I'd rather have a more conservative person than Arnold for California, but sorry folks, looks like the numbers aren't there. And I'm unwilling to take chances on allowing Davis to slip out of the recall or, even worse, to allow Bustamante to win the governorship.

I've disabled the custom "STYLE" feature of our profile pages until I can properly implement a CSS safe-filter. I've learned that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, had extended style sheets to incorporate scripted elements. Scripting can be abused and may lead to identity theft or worse.

You can't top the funny stuff that's coming out for real so give it up already! You can't make this stuff up. That is all. Thanks

We had a visit from another disruptor, who has decided to grace us with postings of a rather vulgar image (to put it mildly).

We have received a few mails from people asking if we could delete the picture from their "My Comments" page. At the moment, we cannot. In the interim, what you can do if one is in your "My Comments" page is to set the "My Comments" page to "brief" rather than "full". This will hide the content of the posts, thereby hiding the graphic. To switch the setting, just click on the word "Brief" near the top right of your "My Comments" page, or click here.

Sometimes, we get the darnedest complaints. I like these two we just got (from the same complaintant). On the thread dead posted, "Is it really appropriate to post cartoons featuring actual dead people in them?"On this thread JohnHuang2 posted, "Regarding #12 Explicit photos of the dead? If you let this go, would it be okay to post pictures of car crash victims and murder scenes?"Some people just crack me up, if they mean to or not.

For the love of God, please, I beg you- no more postings of the 'French Government Bans The Term E-Mail' story. There are already several copies up, and we've pulled many more in the past day.

Do in on eBay or elsewhere. Thank you.

Hi all.Occasionally, we will get abuse reports telling us that a particular article belongs in a particular sidebar, and we will go to the article and find that it already has that topic listed. Why do we get such complaints then?I believe that this is tied to a particular aspect of the forum software. Any topic can be made into a sidebar for a user's account. When accounts are set up, there is a default set of sidebars configured, but as detailed on that thread, they can be changed, reordered, have the number of articles in the sidebar specified, and...

Is Free Republic too "Republican?" I've been receiving a lot of complaints lately that FR is not really conservative, it's Republican. Is that a bad thing? When I started FR (see the wayback machine) I don't think I even used the labels conservative or Republican. But, even though I was a registered Democrat at the time (I registered when I was very young), I was definitely anti-Democrat. And definitely anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-government abuse, anti-liberalism, etc. And I still am. As FR became more and more popular, people started referring to it as a "conservative" web site and so...

One thing I've learned during the last six years or so of hanging around Free Republic is that politics is a dirty game. It may qualify as a runner-up for the understatement of the year, but it seems to me that one of the worst things about politics is that it is made up of politicians. These guys seem to be desperate to get into office and once they've had a taste of power they're even more desperate to hang onto it. Doesn't matter what the Founders had in mind for our Republic and or what they wrote into...

I have a confession. I watch the tv show "American Idol". I place all blame for this on my wife. She's a singer and music fan, thus I'm FORCED to tune in. I actually enjoy the show, the contestants are very talented and we enjoy the competition. This week's show was a bit different, though. Fans phone in weekly and vote for their favorite contestant. This week, Ruben Studdard, already proclaimed to be the winner of the show by some judges, almost got the boot. Trenyce, a wonderful singer by her own right, got the hook instead. This is where...
