A reporter who was a firsthand witness to an incident late Wednesday involving Montana GOP candidate Greg Gianforte and a reporter for The Guardian now admits she may have misstated some details of her initial story.

Gunmen in the Mexican border city of Acuña kidnapped and killed three police officers, authorities said Monday. Acuña Public Safety Department said in a statement that the three were on patrol in the same unit when the assailants kidnapped them early Monday. The officer's bodies were found an hour later in a residential area of Acuña, which is across the border from Del Rio, Texas. At least four people, including two women, were injured Tuesday in a shootout between gunmen and Mexican authorities in a residential neighborhood in Ciudad Acuña. The Attorney General's Office for the state of Coahuila reported the confrontation began shortly before noon Tuesday when a Dodge Durango carrying civilian gunmen came across a security convoy in downtown Acuña composed of army troops and state police.
