More than three quarters of Ohio workers are estimated to not have access to paid leave. They could get up to 14 weeks of state-funded paid leave to help them deal with newborns, medical emergencies, or elderly or ill family members, under a bipartisan bill in the Ohio Senate and a similar Republican-sponsored bill in the House. When her twins were born at just 28 weeks, Madison Greenspan of the Cleveland area said she and her husband struggled to keep their jobs and spend time with their babies in neonatal intensive care. Trump’s assassination attempts underscore how rhetoric that casts political opponents as existential threats can move from language to violence. Same Old, Same Old: Target Trump. At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Donald Trump was the target of yet a third assassination attempt—this time in full view of the Washington press corps. The event was presented as a spirited night with Trump. After 11 years of avoiding the predominantly left-wing media event, he decided to revisit the dinner. He anticipated that he would be the object of ridicule inside the hall—and that he might see possible violence outside it. Indeed, protesters ringed...

New York City’s socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani is "moving the goalposts" on poverty in the nation’s largest city with his newly unveiled racial equity plan to justify a massive expansion of government intervention, a top city policy analyst warns. Mamdani released his "Preliminary Citywide Racial Equity Plan" earlier this month, which quickly received pushback from President Donald Trump’s Justice Department as well as from the Manhattan Institute’s Santiago Vidal Calvo, who told Fox News Digital that when the report uses a "true cost of living" to claim 62% of New Yorkers can’t make ends meet in the city, it’s a...

If Republicans don’t act fast, Virginia will turn into Colorado, but it doesn’t have to happen that way, although it’ll be hard to undo the damage. Election Day 2025 was a broad disaster for Republicans. Everyone could see that. New Jersey stayed blue, but Virginia went back to being blue at the state level, and the Virginia Democrat party took greater dominance over the Old Dominion’s state legislature. Nationally, Republicans could not avoid the backlash in voter turnout, since the common pattern is that the party out of power rebounds in the Virginia and New Jersey elections the year after...

Oil prices have risen after plans for a second round of peace talks between the US and Iran stalled again. Brent, the global benchmark, rose by around 2% to $109.33 (£80.72) a barrel, while US-traded crude also increased by 2% at $96.78. US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Washington had cancelled plans to send a team to Pakistan for negotiations with their Iranian counterparts. Brent crude has risen by more than 10% since Trump announced last week that he would extend a ceasefire with Tehran to give its leadership a chance to present a "unified proposal".

On April 26, 1986, a reactor exploded at the Soviet-run Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, located some 90 kilometers north of Kyiv in Ukraine, killing 31 people immediately and another 15,000 over the next several years from radiation poisoning. Daily Readings from the USCCBJesus said: “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.” John 10:11–13What is it that makes a shepherd “good?” A shepherd’s duties require great sacrifice and time. Like a mother who is always attentive to her newborn, a shepherd devotes his time...

“There is a silence in the night sky that has bothered me for as long as I can remember.” That line, attributed to Richard Feynman, lands because it gets at a simple, stubborn feeling. The sky looks full. Stars crowd the darkness. It seems reasonable to think someone else should be out there, and close enough to find. Yet the deeper physicists look into the laws that govern the universe, the more that silence starts to seem less like a cosmic riddle and more like a built-in feature of reality. Human intuition is not much help. It developed for ordinary...
