New York Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, a Democrat first elected to state office in 2005, has become one of a handful of unlikely leaders of state efforts to preserve the history of the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol insurrection. Sitting in front of a bookshelf in his home office in Glen Cove, New York, a historic community just south of the Long Island Sound, Lavine, 78, has a pile of work on his desk — a proposal to establish a deer management program in his county, and material on organizing a youth reading program and promoting a food drive. Explanation: Orbiting 400 kilometers above Quebec, Canada, planet Earth, the International Space Station Expedition 59 crew captured this snapshot of the broad St. Lawrence River and curiously circular Lake Manicouagan on April 11, 2019. Right of center, the ring-shaped lake is a modern reservoir within the eroded remnant of an ancient 100 kilometer diameter impact crater. The ancient crater is very conspicuous from orbit, a visible reminder that Earth is vulnerable to rocks from space. Over 200 million years old, the Manicouagan crater was likely caused by the impact of a rocky body about 5 kilometers in diameter. Currently, there...

Washington Times columnist Maochun "Miles" Yu (余茂春), one of the nation’s leading China experts, incurred the wrath of the Chinese Communist Party recently, highlighting the global reach of his reports. Mr. Yu appears to have hit a political nerve with his recent opinion article listing 10 reasons why Peking’s call for reunification with Taiwan is “a hoax.” His list includes the fact that Taiwan was never part of Communist China and that Taiwan’s current sovereignty is not an extension of the 1949 civil war between communists and nationalists. “China’s ‘reunification’ slogan,” Mr. Yu wrote Oct. 27, “is a hoax sustained...

Only One Said 'Thank You' By Dr. John C. Whitcomb The Command God commands us to give Him thanks for everything He has done, is doing and will do for us. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God" (Phil. 4:6). "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thess. 5:18). "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men" (1 Tim. 2:1). "Giving thanks always for all...
