Washington Times columnist Maochun "Miles" Yu (余茂春), one of the nation’s leading China experts, incurred the wrath of the Chinese Communist Party recently, highlighting the global reach of his reports.
Mr. Yu appears to have hit a political nerve with his recent opinion article listing 10 reasons why Peking’s call for reunification with Taiwan is “a hoax.”
His list includes the fact that Taiwan was never part of Communist China and that Taiwan’s current sovereignty is not an extension of the 1949 civil war between communists and nationalists.
“China’s ‘reunification’ slogan,” Mr. Yu wrote Oct. 27, “is a hoax sustained by fear, ideology and deception.”
Peking’s ire was expressed in an unusually long and detailed rejoinder article that appeared Nov. 20 in the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party.
Mr. Yu was accused by the publication of “viciously attacking the mainland’s strategy and policies towards Taiwan.”
By sharing much of Mr. Yu’s original column in its detailed rebuttal, the People’s Daily actually offered its reported 944 million readers a rare honest assessment of the Taiwan issue, Mr. Yu said.
The People’s Daily piece, written by Xin Qiang, a Chinese official at Peking’s Taiwan Research Center and at Fudan University, sought to refute each of Mr. Yu’s 10 points by citing well-known propaganda and disinformation points frequently used by the CCP.

Taiwan is the real China.
The coup people / Communists are left on the mainland.
Russia didn’t have a place for the king to retreat to, unfortunately.
Communists are evil.
As initiated by a RINO, Richard M. Nixon.
Is Kissinger really "dead" yet? (Methinks he lives on in the GOP.)
Over Taiwan?
China’s leader looks like Winnie the Pooh but has all the charisma of Eeyore.
I never got over Taiwan.
Taiwan (Formosa) was part of Japan 1895-1945.
“As initiated by a RINO, Richard M. Nixon.”
What did Nixon initiate?
“Is Kissinger really “dead” yet?”
What is your gripe with Kissinger?
I am not a salaried journalist. Looking into history,it is chronicled that Taiwan/Formosa has been serving The Communist China with divorce papers since The Quemoy Incident 1964 - 1955, and that Mainland China refuses to sign the acceptance of those papers.
The whole world has been witness to the undertakings of Mainland China in this regard, and it’s political foibles for these 70 years of nothing but scheming to take over a free independent Republic nation. It was the once-heralded Mao TseTung himself, who drove all those Chinese citizens, who wanted China to be rid and free of oppression, toFormosa, to begin this story.
So, for 70 years, the world has seen the growth of a new Republic, economically and politically, determined to resist the Maoist subjugation.
I stand with Taiwan.
Plus Taiwan has an indigenous population.
The belief that bringing China out of the dark ages would moderate communists (actually fascists).
What is your gripe with Kissinger?
He was the architect of that policy. He didn't believe the Soviet Union should be defeated. Reagan did.
No he didn’t believe that it could be defeated.
In one of his scholarly articles he compared the Cold War struggle as similar to Athens vs Sparta. Us Athens, the USSR Sparta if you know the history Sparta won, Athens lost. He thought US foreign policy was one of managing the relationship in a manner to avoid Athens-like defeat.
To which "he" do you refer? I said Kissinger believed the Soviet Union could not be defeated. Reagan said famously, "We win; they lose."
In 1979 Carter established diplomatic relations with China and adopted the “One China” lie/policy.
In 1980 Carter certified China and granted MFN status.
In 2000 Clinton granted Permanent Normal Trade Relations and China joined the WTO.
Those are your two bad guys, not Nixon and Kissinger.
Nixon only did it to get leverage with the Soviets.
That's one hell of a self-pwn, but expect nothing less from godless confucian roaches...
This is what you typed “..... He* didn’t believe the Soviet Union should be defeated. ...” and I responded to.
* I assume you meant Kissinger and not Reagan.
Now you claim you typed “... I said Kissinger believed the Soviet Union could not be defeated. ...”
Which I agree that Kissinger said\thought that!
In 1980 Carter certified China and granted MFN status.
In 2000 Clinton granted Permanent Normal Trade Relations and China joined the WTO.
Those are your two bad guys, not Nixon and Kissinger.
Equine feces. Carter's actions followed Nixon opening that door per Kissinger's ideas.
Per Brave Search AI:
Thanks for that correction.
No hard feelings here.
Kissinger was an amoral bastard.
