At La Imperial Bakery in Hillsboro, October typically brings a rush of customers eager to celebrate Día de los Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead. They buy bags of pan de muerto, conchas and other pastries galore. Not this year. Over the past few weeks, as the federal government has ramped up immigration enforcement and agents have seized people from cars, streets, apartment buildings and parking lots across the Portland metro area, sales at the family-owned bakery have plummeted by at least 40 percent, said owner and lead pastry chef Moises Pineda. “The clients are not coming,” Pineda said....

With the strong possibility that Democratic Marxist-Islamist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani may be elected mayor of New York City on Tuesday night, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s sights are squarely on New Yorkers. Anticipating the mass escape from New York that might occur with a Mamdani victory, Abbott wrote on X, “After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC.” This move fits neatly into Abbott’s broader pattern of blending culture-war politics with aggressive state policy. Over the past year, he has made it clear that leftist ideologies — especially in...

President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a blistering call for Republicans to eliminate the Senate filibuster, warning that failure to act would hand control of Congress and the White House to Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections. The post, shared on his platform Truth Social, spelled out a sweeping agenda, from secured borders and tax cuts to Second Amendment protections, and placed the burden squarely on Senate Republicans to execute it. "The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don't do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!)," Trump wrote...

They do things a bit different up in Montana. For instance, apparently “Karen” is spelled “Haley” up there. Who knew? Meet Haley McKnight. Hopefully, it’s the first and last time you’ll ever have to deal with her at a macro level. She’s running to serve on the Helena City Commission. Perhaps that leads to higher office. She has to get elected first, however, and she has a heck of an October surprise to live down. On Monday, a voicemail left by McKnight with the office of Montana GOP Sen. Tim Sheehy was first reported on by conservative outlet National Review....
