TIRUPPUR, India — If the tag on your T-shirt says “Made in India,” there’s a good chance it came from this southern industrial hub — long known as “Dollar City” for its dominance in the U.S. market. Now, just seven weeks after the Trump administration imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian exports, many of Tiruppur’s garment factories have ground to a halt. The slowdown has rippled through a vast network of hulking plants and small workshops, which employ more than 600,000 people. Thousands of fabric cutters, thread trimmers and sewing machine operators are suddenly out of work. “Production has...

Daily Readings from the USCCB“There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops.” Luke 12:2–3Immediately prior to this passage quoted above, Jesus told His disciples: “Beware of the leaven—that is, the hypocrisy—of the Pharisees.” This comes after Jesus gives a long and very direct series of condemnations of these leaders in the previous chapter. Jesus is quite serious about their destructive actions. So, after directly...

In 2019, I read an article about Larry Summers and Harvard that changed the way I look at the world. The author, writing under the pseudonym “J. Stone,” argued that the day Larry Summers resigned as president of Harvard University marked a turning point in our culture. The entire “woke” era could be extrapolated from that moment, from the details of how Summers was cancelled and, most of all, who did the cancelling: women. The basic facts of the Summers case were familiar to me. On January 14, 2005, at a conference on “Diversifying the Science and Engineering Workforce,” Larry...

Moscow has proposed a 70-mile Elon Musk-built 'Putin-Trump' rail tunnel which would link Russia and America. The tunnel, which would go under the Bering strait, would unlock joint exploration of natural resources and 'symbolise unity', a Kremlin envoy said. The proposal has suggested using The Boring Company, a US tunnel construction company owned by Elon Musk, to construct the $8billion bridge. It comes as the Kremlin desperately tries to stop Donald Trump from providing crucial Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Kirill Dmitriev, President's Vladimir Putin's investment envoy and head of Russia's RDIF sovereign wealth fund, said Moscow and 'international partners', including...

India will continue to be excluded from the U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, commonly called the “green card lottery” for at least the next several years, likely through 2029. The country remains ineligible because the number of Indian nationals immigrating to the United States each year far exceeds the program’s limits. Meanwhile, ongoing backlogs in H-1B and employment-based (EB) green card categories have made the path to permanent residency even more challenging for skilled Indian professionals already living and working in the U.S. The U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) program or the green card lottery is designed to encourage immigration from...

The head of the U.S. military's Southern Command will retire later this year, a high-profile departure that comes as the Trump administration strikes alleged drug-carrying boats in the Caribbean and puts pressure on the Venezuelan government. Adm. Alvin Holsey announced his retirement from the U.S. Navy in a statement posted to social media on Thursday. He said he is retiring after 37 years in the Navy in mid-December — just over a year after he was first promoted to lead Southern Command, or SOUTHCOM. Imagine going to pick up your child from school and being told that he’d already been picked up earlier in the day. The school doesn’t know who the person was that took your child with him, but he filled out the state-required paperwork, and so the school was required to release your child into his custody. The police can’t help because it was all legal. This situation is now entirely plausible in California, where Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 495 into law on October 12. This bill has sparked outrage among conservatives, parental rights advocates, and religious leaders, as...
