News channels such as CNN and BBC still have false reports of 31 killed Gazans by IDF fire as their headlines, despite GHF's video evidence. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation distribution center in Rafah denied on Sunday claims that the IDF attacked a food distribution point near Rafah, contradicting widely circulated Hamas reports. Security camera footage from Sunday's aid distribution site shows calm civilian activity, with no incidents reported. Following the incident, the GHF denied claims of casualties and injuries at the aid distribution sites. "All aid was distributed today without incident. No injuries or fatalities. We have heard that these...

New Delhi (AFP) – The airline industry's flagship goal of decarbonising by 2050 is now "in peril" due to climate-sceptic policies, including those of US President Donald Trump, the leading airline association IATA warned on Sunday. The emergence of leaders favouring fossil fuels and recent regulatory rollbacks are "obviously a setback... it does imperil success on the 2050 horizon", Marie Owens Thomsen, the International Air Transport Association's senior vice president for sustainability, told reporters. "But I don't think it's going to halt or reverse progress. I think it will just slow progress," she said at the IATA annual industry conference...

Independent journalist Matt Taibbi filed a $10 million libel lawsuit against a Democratic congresswoman on Thursday for allegedly falsely accusing him of sexual harassment and amplifying her claim on her social media accounts. Taibbi sued Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D., Calif.) in New Jersey federal court for calling him a “serial sexual harasser” during a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing Tuesday about online censorship. “These statements are demonstrably false and were made with actual malice—either with knowledge of their falsity or with reckless disregard for their truth,” Taibbi’s lawsuit reads. “The allegations echo prior false claims that have been the subject...

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) predicted Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that if the so-called “big, beautiful” spending bill becomes law, “people will literally die.” Jeffries said, “Trump’s one big ugly bill narrowly escaped the House of Representatives, and we’re going to continue to press our case across the country, partner with Senate Democrats in making clear to the American people the type of damage that this bill would do if it ever became law. This bill actually hurts everyday Americans in order to reward billionaires. It would strip away health care from approximately 14 million Americans...

By Dr. John BergsmaAscension Day, unfortunately, is not observed in a uniform manner across the United States. Catholics in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, New York, and New England will observe it on Thursday; the rest of the country observes it this Sunday. The First Reading and Psalm for this Solemnity are always Acts 1:1-11 and Psalm 47. Year C has the option to employ Hebrews 9:24-28; 10:19-23 instead of Ephesians 4:17-23 as the Second Reading (both are discussed below) and proclaims Luke 24:46-53 as the Gospel. This is an unusual Lord’s Day, in which the “action” of the Feast Day actually takes...

Daily Readings from the USCCB⁕ (If you celebrate the Ascension in your diocese today, see the reflection below. Otherwise, see today's separate thread for the reflection on the 7th Sunday of Easter.) ⁕Jesus said to his disciples: “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until...

Ukrainian negotiators at talks scheduled for June 2 in Istanbul will present to the Russian side a proposed roadmap for reaching a lasting peace settlement, according to a copy of the document seen by Reuters. The proposed roadmap begins with a full ceasefire of at least 30 days, to be followed by the return of all prisoners held by each side, and of Ukrainian children taken into Russian-held territory, and then a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Under the blueprint, Moscow and Kyiv -- with the participation of the United States and Europe --...

By Dr. John BergsmaHere is a commentary on the Readings for the Seventh Sunday of Easter, and let me begin by saying, if you have a Seventh Sunday of Easter, you are indeed blessed! This is an important Sunday: it is climactic, the last Sunday before Pentecost in the Easter Season. The architects of the Vatican II lectionary saved very important readings for this date, notably the High Priestly Prayer of John 17. This magnificent prayer is the longest of Jesus’ prayers recorded in Scripture, and it is the climax of the Last Supper Discourse (John 13-17), the longest discourse...

Daily Readings from the USCCB⁕ (In many dioceses, the Solemnity of the Ascension is celebrated today. If you celebrate the Ascension in your diocese today, see the reflection on today's separate thread for the Ascension) ⁕Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “Holy Father, I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have...

Barack Obama’s legacy here started early. Not quite in office for six months Obama showed his hand with his characterization that “The police acted stupidly” about the arrest of Henry Louis Gates a professor at Harvard who, locked out of his house, broke in. A neighbor, not recognizing Gates, called 911. The police arrived and things didn’t go well and Gates was arrested. When asked about race and the incident a week later, Obama responded: "I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that. But I think it's fair to...

These allegations were echoed by international media outlets, leading to widespread criticism of Israel. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) promptly responded, stating, "The IDF is currently unaware of injuries caused by IDF fire within the Humanitarian Aid distribution site. The matter is still under review." Subsequently, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) released security camera footage from the aid distribution site during the time of the...

I’m a retired New York attorney. For decades, renewing my attorney registration was straightforward. You paid the fee, confirmed your status, and moved on with your life. Not anymore. Now, in 2025, the Unified Court System has decided they need to know whether I identify as transgender, nonbinary, intersex, or “none of the above.” I wish I was joking. See for yourself: This is not just a form. It’s an ideological loyalty test disguised as “data collection.” These questions are optional but it’s in little tiny lettering — and I might have filled it out had I not read the...
