The intermittent fasting diet, which involves periods of severe calorie restriction, may be on the way out, as new research is suggesting that rather than drastically reducing calories, people can achieve similar metabolic benefits by cutting back on carbs. In Surrey's study, participants aged 20–65 years who were overweight or obese followed three different diet plans for one day: a normal carb diet, a low-carb diet with balanced calorie intake, and a low-carb diet with significant calorie restriction. Researchers found that both low-carb diets, regardless of calorie reduction, led to improvements in the participants' metabolic markers, and better handling of...

A bombshell report from the America First Policy Institute has exposed a staggering $100 million in foreign dark money laundered through the Sixteen Thirty Fund to bankroll radical ballot initiatives across 25 states. The Sixteen Thirty Fund, a notorious hub for progressive causes, has been caught funneling foreign cash into state ballot measures targeting divisive issues like abortion, election law, and drug policy. According to the America First Policy Institute: Non-citizens can influence U.S. elections and domestic policy through donations to ballot initiatives. Instead of the ballot initiative process being decided by state residents who are affected by the result,...

Researchers studying the health risks posed by gadolinium, a toxic rare earth metal used in MRI scans, have found that oxalic acid, a molecule found in many foods, can generate nanoparticles of the metal in human tissues. In a new paper, Brent Wagner, MD sought to explain the formation of the nanoparticles, which have been associated with serious health problems in the kidneys and other organs. "The worst disease caused by MRI contrast agents is nephrogenic systemic fibrosis," he said. "People have succumbed after just a single dose." The condition can cause a thickening and hardening of the skin, heart...

Is there a serial killer hunting in small towns across New England? A growing number of people believe this is happening. Human remains have been discovered in various places in the region and there is enough evidence to suggest that the crimes are connected. It’s creepy to think that there is some evil person out there stalking and killing people for no reason but studies have shown that there are serial killers operating in the country at any given time. Every once in a while, law enforcement connects the dots on certain cases and speculation grows. The Daily Mail reports:...

The microbial community living within our large intestine is a highly dense and complex ecosystem. While some of these microbes cause illness and disease (such as bacteria and viruses), others are friendlier to us and help keep us in good health. Akkermansia muciniphila is one of these friendly bacteria. One of the important roles it plays in our gut is maintaining the function of our gut barrier. But when there's an imbalance of A. muciniphila in the gut, it can lead to problems with our health. This unusual bacteria lives in our large intestine and survives off of mucin—the layer...

Pulte, the director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), made the referral Monday to Attorney General Pam Bondi and her deputy Todd Blanche, and attached evidence he said corroborated earlier media reports alleging irregularities in a series of loans James obtained,...

Investigators have validated a test that can accurately predict which patients with prostate cancer are at higher risk of developing long-lasting urinary side effects after receiving radiation therapy. The test, called PROSTOX, is the first of its kind to use microRNAs to predict toxicity from cancer therapy. It could help prevent the burden of long-term complications by identifying patients most at risk before treatment even begins. The team validated PROSTOX's ability to predict long-term urinary side effects. "What makes PROSTOX different is that it looks at a patient's unique genetics to estimate their personal risk of developing side effects from...

Why transplants are sometimes rejected and sometimes not depends largely on immune mechanisms. To help answer this question, researchers have analyzed the changes in the composition and function of the gut microbiome of kidney transplant patients who were included in the DZIF transplant cohort. They discovered an altered signature in the gut microbiome that preceded transplant rejection. In patients with chronic kidney disease, the composition of the gut microbiome is severely altered, resulting in lower concentrations of anti-inflammatory short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and increased concentrations of pro-inflammatory metabolites from the microbiome. In their study, researchers analyzed the changes in the...

So much crazy happens with the Trump administration every day that some downright weird but incredibly telling stuff gets lost in the noise. A recent example was the scene on April 8 at the White House where, in the middle of his raging trade war, our president decided it was the perfect time to sign an executive order to bolster coal mining. “We’re bringing back an industry that was abandoned,” said President Trump, surrounded by coal miners in hard hats, members of a work force that has declined to about 40,000 from 70,000 over the last decade, according to Reuters....

President Trump’s job approval rating has surged to its highest number since he was inaugurated in January. Currently, Trump’s job approval rating sits at 54 percent, with only 46 percent disapproving. This ties his all-time high this year (in this poll) and is a five-point boost in approval since late March. This poll of 1,002 registered voters was taken between April 10-14, the days during the so-called stock market turmoil after the president instituted the tariff increases he ran on, which appear to have brought dozens of countries to the negotiating table. “For all the events of the past ten...

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), once a rising star in the Republican Party, is staring down a pair of decisions in 2026 and 2028 regarding his family’s political future that could both run afoul of fellow Floridian President Donald Trump. Despite a disastrous 2024 presidential campaign, DeSantis, a popular governor, is a rumored candidate for a 2028 run, setting up a likely showdown with Vice President JD Vance. However, the term-limited Florida governor also faces more tensions with Trump if his wife, Casey DeSantis, challenges a Trump-backed congressman in 2026 to succeed him in the governor’s mansion. “DeSantis’s strong conservative record...

New York Attorney General Letitia James was hit with a federal criminal referral for instances of alleged mortgage fraud on Tuesday, according to a letter obtained by The Post. Federal Housing FHFA Director William Pulte sent the missive to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche, alleging that James had “falsified records” to get home loans for a property in Virginia that she claimed was her “principal residence” in 2023 — while still serving as a New York state prosecutor. In February 2001, James also purchased a five-family dwelling in Brooklyn — but has “consistently misrepresented the same...
