[Catholic Caucus] Chicago: Where Eucharistic Revival Goes to DieLayer upon layer of Eucharistic practice was constructed over the millennia as protection against the slightest attenuation of Catholic doctrine regarding the Eucharist. For over sixty years, it has been breached. For all its good intentions, the grand project of Eucharistic Revival is barely limping to its finish line. Applause is in order, for at least it noticed a precipitous loss of faith in the central mystery of Catholicism. But its cure was carefully wrapped in the naïve gauze that created the fatal lapse in the first place. Look at its official website:...

With the nation's focus rightly on the terrorist attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and with what appears to be a gang shootout at a nightclub in Queens, the vote for the first domino to fall in a series of changes from the outgoing Biden administration to the incoming Trump administration takes place at Noon Eastern on Friday. Sure, Inauguration Day is on the 20th, and that promises to a Day One for the ages. But don't forget January 6th, which is when the House certifies the election results, putting President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice-President-Elect J.D. Vance on the...

Radio host Hugh Hewitt said Monday evening on Fox Business that former President Jimmy Carter passed away knowing he wasn’t the “worst president,” thanks to President Joe Biden taking that title. The Carter Center confirmed Sunday that the 100-year-old former Democratic president had passed away while in hospice care in Plains, Ga. On “Kudlow,” Hewitt was asked about Biden’s response to President-elect Donald Trump’s Truth Social post about Carter’s passing. Trump said that while he “strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically,” he believed that Carter “truly loved and respected our country.” Hewitt said he thought that comment was “very...

A new report released by the Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight into the January 6 pipe bomber shows the FBI stopped looking for the suspect in 2021 and covered up evidence. The FBI is now refusing to cooperate with Congressional investigators. Trans-fatty acids (TFA) are a major cause of cardiovascular diseases. These harmful fats can accumulate along artery walls, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attacks. Studies indicate that unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) can undergo trans-isomerization, a molecular reconfiguration that transforms them into TFAs when heated at 150°C or higher. This raises the question of whether these sulfur compounds also promote the trans-isomerization of UFAs in everyday cooking. Understanding the impact of natural sulfur compounds on the cooking process can help regulate TFA intake, particularly for those who avoid processed foods. The researchers first evaluated the effects of...

Patients can die if they take certain previously prescribed beta-blockers during a hematopoietic cell transplant due to suppressed signals from nerves that promote bone marrow regeneration. This finding by scientists builds upon previous research by analyzing retrospective patient data to correlate beta-blocker use with significantly worse patient outcomes. Hematopoietic cell transplants are commonly used to treat disorders of the blood-forming system, including some high-risk leukemias. During treatment, a patient's blood-forming cells are wiped out with chemotherapy and radiation and replaced with transplanted hematopoietic cells. There are three beta-adrenergic receptors—β1, β2, and β3—that perform numerous functions across the body, primarily to...

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan presented President Biden with options for a potential U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear facilities if the Iranians move towards a nuclear weapon before Jan. 20, in a meeting several weeks ago that remained secret until now, three sources with knowledge of the issue tell Axios. Why it matters: A U.S. strike on Iran's nuclear program during the lame duck period would be an enormous gamble from a president who promised he would not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, but who would also risk handing a fresh conflict over to his successor....
