Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul wasted little time in appealing Judge Stephen McGlynn's decision striking down the state's ban on so-called assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, filing notice with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals just hours after McGlynn's decision was released on Friday afternoon. McGlynn stayed his decision for 30 days to allow for Raoul's appeal, so for now the prohibitions remain in effect. A three-judge panel on the Seventh Circuit previously indicated in a 2-1 decision that, in its view, the bans pass constitutional muster, but it's unclear whether that same panel will hear Raoul's appeal this time...

livier Douliery/Pool via AP CNN anchor Chris Wallace announced on Monday that he would leave the network at the end of his contract, citing the growing influence of podcasters such as Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God. Wallace – who joined CNN in January 2022 after nearly 20 years at Fox News – told the Daily Beast he would leave the network at the end of his three-year contract in favor of independent broadcasting. Describing podcasts and streaming platforms as “where the action seems to be,” Wallace pointed to Rogan and Charlamagne’s influence during the 2024 election, before adding, “I...

Thanks a bunch, America. You’ve left no room for doubt that, yet again, your presidential preference is for anybody but a woman. Yup, even if the man is a galumphing sexual predator who boasts about assaulting women and has vowed to “protect” women “whether the women like it or not”. Yup, even if the woman is cleverer, younger, more energetic, more articulate and comfortable enough in her own skin not to plaster it with orange tan. The manosphere rules, OK. Nothing changes. Not really. Not ever. In the post-Roe v Wade age of JD Vance’s “cat ladies”, as it became...

An MSNBC host who once served as an aide to President Biden took aim at Nancy Pelosi for engineering his “very public demise” in the final months of the 2024 election — paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to eventually lose the race to Donald Trump. Symone Sanders-Townsend, who served as a senior adviser to Biden as well as a spokesperson for Harris before joining the Comcast-owned cable outlet in 2022, appeared on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” on Sunday for a panel discussion about the fallout from the election. When analyzing where Democrats went wrong, Sanders-Townsend cited Pelosi by...

With the news that Kamala Harris's campaign somehow ended up $20 million in debt after raising over $1 billion in donations, critics have started to wonder: how on earth did her campaign spend that billion dollars? Our crack investigative team at the Bee has gone to work and can now share a line-by-line breakdown of where all that money went: $70 million for accent coaches: In retrospect, probably shouldn't have used Foghorn Leghorn. $500,000 for Lizzo's catering: That's a lot of hoagies. $70 million for surgery to re-attach Tim Walz's arms every time they flew off: Not bad, honestly. $10...

Vice President Harris’s strategy of riding on a surge of female support ultimately fell flat, with hints that Election Day could see a historic gender gap failing to materialize. White women sided with President-elect Trump for the third straight cycle, and he also made inroads with Latina voters and young women. Trump improved on his 2020 margins with Latina women by 8 points, according to Edison Research. And among young women, Trump improved by 11 points compared to last cycle, according to NBC News exit polling. While Harris won women, Trump’s gains with the voting bloc have Democrats reeling as...

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. An armed intruder broke into a Florida home after midnight Sunday — but the homeowner's adult son also had a gun and fatally shot the intruder. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said it received a call at 12:23 a.m. regarding an armed residential burglary in the 3000 block of Double D Ranch Trail in Ruskin. Ruskin is on the shore of Tampa Bay and is about a half hour south of the city of Tampa. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the suspect dead from multiple gunshot wounds, the sheriff's...

Toy manufacturer Mattel has said it "deeply regrets" a misprint on packaging for dolls inspired by the new Wicked movie which listed the address for an adult website. The company recently released the singing dolls ahead of the long-awaited film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. But eagle-eyed fans posted images on social media showing the packaging had a pornography website on it, instead of the movie's web address. In a statement, Mattel apologised for the "unfortunate error" and advised parents that the misprinted website "is not appropriate for children". The BBC has seen online instructions on Mattel's website, for...

It doesn’t feel like Congressman Seth Moulton is about to apologize anytime soon. The Massachusetts Democrat — facing heat for his post-election comments on boys and transgender athletes having no place in girls’ sports — doubled down on his remarks on Monday. “We as Democrats are more concerned about offending people and just getting all our words right than actually having legitimate, serious debates about issues that matter,” Moulton said on GBH. “I’m not going to refuse to have this debate, and I’m not going to apologize for bringing up the issue,” he later added. “This is the problem with...
