Voting rights groups are keeping tabs on roughly two dozen counties as potential hot spots for electoral discord, places that in recent cycles have seen pushback on the certification of results or efforts to disqualify some ballots or common election procedures. The counties have repeatedly found themselves at the center of legal disputes, some aimed at overturning former President Donald J. Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election. These are some of the places that democracy watchdogs are closely monitoring: ArizonaCochise County: This deeply Republican area in the southeastern part of the state has been a cauldron of election-driven conspiracy theories,...

“My gut says” former President Donald Trump will win the election, Nate Silver wrote Wednesday, with a warning not to trust “anyone’s gut” instinct. Silver, a statistician, writer, and poker player, says the election remains a “50/50” coin flip, a characterization that many political experts argue is true with just 13 days until Election Day. Newsweek reported on Silver’s history of predicting elections: 2008: Nate Silver successfully predicted the winner in 49 out of 50 states in the presidential election. 2012: He correctly predicted the winner in all 50 states. 2016: Although Donald Trump won in an upset, Silver’s model...

Hundreds of female golfers have complained about the participation of Scottish-born transgender player Hailey Davidson in the penultimate stage of the LPGA Tour’s qualifying competition. Davidson, a 31-year-old professional originally from Ayrshire but now based in Florida, has said that the intention is “to make Scotland proud” by earning a card on the women’s premier circuit. But after progressing through August’s first stage of Q-School , the former player on a US male college team was accused of acting “unfairly”, with Amy Olson, a two-time major runner-up, railing against Davidson being allowed to compete. “These women have worked too hard...

The Atlantic Accuses Trump Of Disparaging Slain Soldier. The Soldier’s Family Responds. "President Donald Trump did nothing but show respect to my family & Vanessa." With just two weeks until Election Day, Left-leaning magazine The Atlantic published an article on Tuesday accusing former President Donald Trump of disparaging a slain U.S. Army private in 2020. The Atlantic story, which was written by editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, claims that Trump “became angry” when he learned how much the funeral bill was for soldier Vanessa Guillén. The deceased 20-year-old, a daughter of Mexican immigrants, was murdered by a fellow soldier at Fort Hood...

In 2005, one year into her job as San Francisco district attorney, Kamala Harris was showing a new hire around the office. Ms. Harris had recruited Lateefah Simon, a 28-year-old racial justice activist, to lead a new program aimed at keeping first-time drug offenders out of jail. As the two women walked the halls, they stopped in front of a wall lined with photographs of Ms. Harris’s predecessors — all of them white men. “The expectation of our community is that I’m going to fix all the havoc,” Ms. Harris said, according to Ms. Simon’s recollection. “They’re going to want...

Would you like some fries with that? If ever there is an example of how much Politics have changed in the Trump era, nothing captures it quite as adeptly as President Trump’s photo op cooking and serving fries at a McDonald’s yesterday. Now photo ops are nothing new, they have been part of political life in the United States since before the camera was invented. Candidates volunteer at soup kitchens, county fairs, stop by children’s cancer wards, whatever and wherever they can and fell will be a good backdrop to draw in the press and get a story about whatever...

Vice President Kamala Harris, her campaign team and some of Donald Trump’s own allies say they expect the former president to quickly declare victory on election night — even if the outcome is not yet settled in key swing states. Between the time it takes to process mail ballots and deal with provisional ballots in some battleground states, votes will not be fully tabulated on election night. Projections of who won a close presidential race might not come for days, similar to the 2020 election. NBC News spoke to four Trump allies, all of whom speculated that the former president...

The Sofia Globe reports that a larger-than-life Roman statue dated to the second or third century A.D. was uncovered during construction work near the coast of the Black Sea, outside the walls of the ancient city of Odessos. The white marble figure depicts a middle-aged man with a short beard. His right hand is missing, and there is some damage to the face. A Greek engraving on the statue's plinth names "G[aius] Marius Hermogenes," who is shown wearing a toga and holding a scroll, which are both symbols of Roman authority. The statue has been transferred to the Archaeological Museum...

Liz Cheney teamed up with Vice President Kamala Harris Monday in a last-minute effort to appeal to moderate Republicans who the former congresswoman believes might be uneasy about voting for Donald Trump but are afraid to say so publicly. Harris and Cheney visited three counties: Chester County in Pennsylvania, Oakland County in Michigan and Waukesha County in Wisconsin. Each were won by Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who ran against Trump for the Republican nomination. During a townhall in Michigan, Cheney framed the November election as a choice between "right and...

Opposition calls for non-recognition of vote set to extend Lukashenko’s 30-year rule. Belarus plans to hold a presidential vote, in which incumbent Alexander Lukashenko is likely to secure a seventh straight term, on January 26. The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the date in Minsk on Wednesday. Lukashenko, a staunch ally of Russia who has been accused of manipulating previous elections and stamping out political opposition, has tightened his grip on dissent since Moscow launched its invasion of neighbouring Ukraine in February 2022. The CEC said in a statement on social media that parliament had approved the date of the...

Daily Readings from the USCCBJesus said to his disciples: “Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” Luke 12:39–40These words from Jesus should cause us to sit up and take notice. This parable, followed by the rest of today’s Gospel, exhorts us to always be prepared for our particular judgment at the conclusion of our earthly life. There are various...

Did Donald Trump Mock a Person? I saw the video and listened to the media narrative claiming that Trump was mocking a reporter’s handicap. Accompanying the narrative was a still photo of the handicapped reporter next to Trump’s hands and wrist. "If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence." --...

U.S. — Former Vice President Dick Cheney excitedly joined the Democrat Party today after seeing that Democrats are allowed to shoot humans at their local gun range. Cheney announced the move after learning that Missouri Senate candidate Lucas Kunce headed to a gun range, shot a man, and then took photos with the human he'd nailed. "I can't believe I've been missing out on this," said Cheney, happily loading up his rifle. "Boy, do I love shooting humans. Looks like that Missouri fella shot his human in the arm -- I'm more of a shoot-him-in-the-face guy, but to each his...

A Republican ex-Nascar driver has passed an incumbent Democrat Congressman in the final turn before Election Day. Austin Theriault has surpassed incumbent Democrat Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) in the race for Maine’s Second Congressional District, a poll from Axis Research found. The republican state lawmaker now holds a 2-point advantage over Golden with 47 percent to the Democrats’ 45 percent. Golden had a 10-point lead in the same poll in July, but Theriault has climbed as his name ID increased, the poll found.

Yelp temporarily disabled the reviews for the McDonald’s franchise in Pennsylvania where former President Donald Trump manned the french fry cooker and drive-thru window on Sunday after the app was flooded with negative comments by his political opponents. Supporters of the former president wrote rave reviews. One of them commented: “The best McDonalds I’ve ever been to in 47 years. The older employee was extremely nice. Make McDonalds Great Again! Bring back the Dollar Menu!” But others flooded the page with one-star reviews and comments unrelated to the restaurant’s food or service. “The fries were too salty as if someone...

Wouldn’t it be strange if we actually knew the winner of the 2024 election before the usual 10-day grace period we’ve all gotten used to—thanks to Democrats, their pandemics, mail-in ballots, and other election day shenanigans? Well, some experts believe that might actually happen this time around, thanks to an unprecedented shift happening in the country when it comes to early voting. As you likely know, the left usually dominates early voting (which, let’s be honest, shouldn’t even be a thing), and the right owns election day. But now, in some very key areas, like Nevada, we’re seeing a shift....

Former president also slams Harris as “lazy” for taking day off from campaign trail, and urges leakers of Israeli intel to be brought to justice. Gaining momentum two weeks from Election Day, Donald Trump is laser focused on voters’ top priority of making America safe and affordable again. But after spending hours comforting families victimized by murder, rape and other border crimes, the former president told Just the News he also is open to creating a federal compensation fund for Americans harmed by illegal immigrants let into the country under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The idea...

On 15 October 2024, ESA’s Euclid space mission revealed the first piece of its great map of the Universe, showing millions of stars and galaxies. This first chunk of the map, which is a huge mosaic of 208 gigapixels, was revealed at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy, by ESA’s Director General Josef Aschbacher and Director of Science Carole Mundell. The mosaic contains 260 observations made between 25 March and 8 April 2024. In just two weeks, Euclid covered 132 square degrees of the Southern Sky in pristine detail, more than 500 times the area of the full Moon....
