A Republican ex-Nascar driver has passed an incumbent Democrat Congressman in the final turn before Election Day.
Austin Theriault has surpassed incumbent Democrat Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) in the race for Maine’s Second Congressional District, a poll from Axis Research found.
The republican state lawmaker now holds a 2-point advantage over Golden with 47 percent to the Democrats’ 45 percent.
Golden had a 10-point lead in the same poll in July, but Theriault has climbed as his name ID increased, the poll found.

I hope he wins.

Austin Theriault
In Maine, having a good French-sounding last name can only help. It is like having an Italian last name in New Haven.

More bad news for the resident FR naysayers. You guys have really got your work cut out for you.

I wish him well too.
Maine used to be reliably Republican!
Somebody can enlighten me what happened there?

I saw the thread title and wondered, is it “poll” or “pole”? This would be a great flip to have for the GOP.

Golden was one of the few Democrats who voted against the Trump impeachment and Build Back Better. Maine’s CD-2 is a conservative district, and its amazing he’s lasted as long as he has.

President Trump has promised to make me Cutesy Headline and Story Copy Czar. The writer would be well advised that, when I’m enthroned, the cutesy headline and first paragraph would earn him the death penalty.

Excellent point—the French name has gotta be worth a few percentage points.

There’s a lot of fellow paesani in New Haven? :)
I didn’t know.
I know here on Staten Island we’re probably over 50 percent of population.

They have "rank choice voting" in Maine. It can result...and has resulted...in a Rat who got fewer votes than the Republican to be declared the winner. It's just another way that Rat Party cesspools like Maine commit voter fraud.
I wouldn't bet a nickel on this Republican being declared the winner...despite the two way vote totals.
To: ChicagoConservative27
I hope he wins too, we got stuffed by ranked choice voting last time.
I started seeing all the attack ads against him saying things like “He wants to take your Social Security” and “He’s against working people”. I knew right then I would be voting for him.

Why do you think New Haven has excellent apizza?
Uh huh. Rosa DeLauro represents the district, and when she ran the first time she put up her First Communion pictures. Her husband is Dem Pollster Staley Greenburg. Do you wonder why she didn't take his name?
Former mayors of New Haven, CT include guys like Biagio DiLieto and John DeStefano Jr. Famous Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso was born to Italian immigrants. (Maiden name Tambusso) She did well in New Haven and Hartford. Connecticut as a whole is about one-quarter Italian extraction last I checked. Those of us who are Irish, German, Polish, English extraction figured out their food is better, so my Polish-English mother made an excellent lasagna because my Irish-German father liked it so much.

Golden should have been beaten a while back. Trump wins the district.
Is it money or the voters not getting off their dead asses?

“They have “rank choice voting” in Maine. It can result...and has resulted...in a Rat who got fewer votes than the Republican to be declared the winner. “
A very good point. Rigged Choice Voting saved Golden’s ass in 2018, when he was first elected over a moderate GOP incumbent. Without RCV, the Republican won.
Golden is one of the 2 or 3 most endangered House Democrats (there aren’t nearly as many as there ought to be), along with Mary Peltola (Alaska) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Washington). Alaska, like Maine, also has Rigged Choice Voting, and it may save her too.
Golden’s district is something like R+6, Trump has won it twice so far (and received the electoral vote which goes with it), and Golden is in such a panic that he has often tactically been allowed to vote like a Republican in Congress this year in order to bolster his moderate “cred” back home.

I think Trump will carry a bunch of people with him.
What’s the point of voting Trump and not giving him the congressional support he will need to get anything done?
