When German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe published The Sorrows of Young Werther in 1774, he intended for readers to finish it, but not, you know, to end it. To Goethe's disbelief, his novel sparked a spate of suicides. The title character, whose obsessive love for a married woman was unrequited, ended up shooting himself, and soon the copycatting started. Young men of the era would dress just as the fictional Werther had—yellow trousers, blue jacket—and use a similar pistol. Often, a copy of the book was found at the scene. The number of deaths was unsettling enough that Italy...

Two constitutional initiatives to change how Montanans vote will be on the ballot in November, and both are deceptive. Two of them will help Democrats and ensure, ironically, despite supporters’ claims, that election winners are not likely to have a majority of the total votes cast. Supporters sell CI-126 as giving voters more choices in primary elections. Montana is already an “open” primary state where voters can choose whether they want a Republican or Democrat ballot, but this initiative would allow people to vote for a Democrat in one race and then a Republican in another one. These are called...

Arizona Democrat Representative and Senate candidate Ruben Gallego, whose father is a convicted Mexican drug trafficker, continues to come under fire over his ties to the cartels as newly discovered arrest records and details about his father come to surface. While admitting that his father is a convicted drug trafficker, Gallego did not deny his “connection to drug cartels” when asked by a reporter. ... In 2008, Gallego changed his name from MarineLarena to Gallego to hide...

I've written about 60 Minutes' edits to the Kamala Harris interview, slicing and dicing her word salads to paste together a coherent answer. It is, in a way, exactly the opposite of what the media does to create false Donald Trump narratives like the "fine people" hoax. More information has come out about the disastrous interview and 60 Minutes' manipulations, and of course, we should throw in CBS' lie about Leslie Stahl's Trump interview in 2020. They flat-out lied about what happened, and there is tape to prove it. And, of course, CBS is facing fallout from its Ta-Nahise Coates...

How great is Bidenomics working out for the people of Massachusetts? Our citizens are doing so well economically here that the number of active EBT cards – food stamps – has increased from 1,944,399 in July 2023 to 2,616,882 on Sept. 1 of this year. Nothing says the economy is great like a 34.6% increase in the number of food-stamp recipients in Massachusetts – in a mere 14 months. Isn’t this wonderful news?

As Kamala Harris fumed that Ron DeSantis was playing politics with preparations for Hurricane Milton it might have been expected that President Joe Biden would take her side. But when Biden was asked about suggestions the Florida governor had ignored his Vice President's calls he gave her no such backing, instead heaping praise on the Republican. Biden told reporters: 'All I can do is tell you I have talked to Governor DeSantis. He has been very gracious, he's thanked for me all we've done, he knows what we're doing and I think that's important.'

An unpopular Illinois, Dolton mayor was booed out of a town meeting then sued the other officials for hosting it without her. So-called America's 'worst mayor' Tiffany Henyard arrived at Monday's village board meeting an hour late and was met with outraged residents, reported WGN. Despite the meeting's location being moved to the local park district facilities after Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s Office found Dolton had violated the state’s Open Meetings Act, Henyard tried to hold a separate board meeting at Village Hall, according to WLS.

If you’ve been watching the polls in the Wisconsin Senate race, you’ve seen the Republican Eric Hovde making it a competitive race with the incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin. You’ve also seen someone named Thomas Leager showing up at 2 percent or so in some polls. Who is Leager? He is supposedly the “America First” candidate but is really the product of a Democratic conspiracy to tank the GOP in close congressional races. The Associated Press has done great work on this true false-flag operation. Leager was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Whitmer kidnapping plot and has fringy right-wing views that...

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry spoke against freedom of speech at a recent World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, saying that "allowing individuals to freely post their thoughts on social media hampers the ability of government to build a consensus around a favored policy. It used to be that ill-informed nobodies had no way of spreading their ignorance. Editors of newspapers could weed out unacceptable viewpoints appearing in their 'letters to the editor' page. But now anyone can reach millions of readers by posting to the Internet." "Efforts to mute these unwanted opinions by having government agents intimidate the...

Barbecue goers in North Carolina were sickened with parasites after being served bear meat, a new CDC report has confirmed. In November 2023, 10 unidentified people reported fever, swelling in their faces, and muscle aches about three weeks after the event. All of the attendees, with the youngest being just 10 years old, reported consuming undercooked bear meat at the event. Officials from the North Carolina Division of Public Health said that based on the patients' symptoms, they had been sickened by trichinellosis, a rare parasitic infection occurring just 15 times per year in the US. Trichinellosis, also called trichinosis,...

"In every shot and every scene, mostly in closeup, Ronan carries the film with her unselfconsciously fierce and focused presence. Out-of-control-drunk acting in montage is a difficult thing to bring off – as is the representation of precarious sobriety – but she does it with intelligence and plausibility. There is a powerful moment when Rona confesses in her 12-step group that what she mostly feels is a passionate longing for the happiness of being drunk. Later, in an Orkney shop, Fingscheidt allows us to register a visually unemphasised row of bottles behind the shopkeeper while Rona is buying food and...
