Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) claimed Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that voting for former President Donald Trump or writing in a name was “to abandon the Constitution.” Host Jonathan Karl said, “There was a lot of talk during the primaries of the Nikki Haley voters, and some states seem like even when she stopped running, almost a third of Republican voters were looking for an alternative to Trump and voting for Nikki Haley. If you ask the average man or woman on the street if crime is rising or falling in America, the solid majority response would be rising. Roughly four times as many people think violent crime is rising rather than getting better. But the actual figures for violent crime are falling in almost every major city. Why the disconnect? Why are people convinced crime is on the rise? First of...

The new August jobs report shows employment numbers of U.S.-born workers and foreign-born workers going on two very different trajectories. Data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an arm of the Department of Labor, shows native-born Americans lost more than 1.3 million jobs over the last 12 months, while foreign-born workers gained more than 1.2 million jobs. The news comes as U.S. job growth picked up in August but missed economists' expectations, while the unemployment rate changed little. As of August of this year, there are 129,712,000 native-born workers compared to 131,031,000 in August 2023, meaning a plummeting reduction...

Daily Readings from the USCCBHe put his finger into the man’s ears and, spitting, touched his tongue; then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, “Ephphatha!”—that is, “Be opened!”—And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. Mark 7:33–35One interesting point in this story is that the people who brought this deaf and mute man to Jesus begged Him to “lay his hand on him” so as to heal him. But what did Jesus do? Instead, He took the man away from the crowd, put His divine finger into...

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a large floating accumulation of debris in the Pacific Ocean, can be cleaned up within 10 years at a cost of $7.5 billion — or within five years with a more aggressive strategy costing $4 billion. That’s according to the Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization that has led the fight to remove the dangerous plastic from the Pacific — most of which, it says, consists of discarded fishing equipment from Japan and China. The patch is one of the world’s most pressing environmental problems — one that Vice President Kamala Harris said, incorrectly, can be...

A single mom in Durham, N.C. is finally getting her home back after squatters took it over. Two people booked Farzana Rahman's two-bed, two-bath property via Airbnb for seven months. They then refused to leave when their stay was up in May 2024, claiming they're "legal residents" of the home. Rahman ended up taking them to court to get her property back. For the first time in weeks, former President Donald Trump pulled ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris in one of the most-watched national polls — raising the prospect that her momentum has fizzled out just ahead of their debate. Trump edged out Harris 48% to 47% among likely voters nationally, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll. Other polls have similarly begun to show the 45th president regaining ground against his rival now that the Democratic National Convention has wrapped up.
