“But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction” (1 Timothy 6:9). The sin of loving money is also dangerous because of its harmful effects. The sanctioning of new state lotteries over the past twenty years, officially done to “enhance revenues” and create new jobs, not only sustains many persons’ addiction to gambling but also draws many others into a willingness to spend money they don’t have. It illustrates how greed results in sinful entrapment for many people. Scripture warns against becoming entrapped...

There are some bizarre and concerning issues popping up regarding the chain of custody for the would-be assassin’s body. On August 2, many news outlets reported that the autopsy of Thomas Matthew Crooks had been released by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. The fact is that mainstream media are late to the party, and the Butler County Coroner’s Office released the cause and manner of death of Thomas Matthew Crooks to AbleChild nearly two weeks earlier on July 21. Unfortunately, what the mainstream media don’t understand is that the cause and manner of death are not an autopsy, and although...

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro broke his silence about not joining the 2024 Democratic ticket as the vice presidential candidate — with sources attributing presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ snub to her fear that he would steal the “spotlight” and alienate the party’s progressive base over his support for Israel. ... Hank Sheinkopf told The Post that Shapiro was too hot to pick as Harris’ running mate because of his pro-Israel record, and that Waltz was a safer choice. “The ticket would have been too pro-Israel. Harris doesn’t need a battle over Israel-Gaza,” said Sheinkopf, who worked on Bill Clinton’s re-election campaign....

NEW YORK (AP) — A Chinese American scholar was convicted Tuesday of U.S. charges of using his reputation as a pro-democracy activist to gather information on dissidents and feed it to his homeland’s government... Prosecutors said that at the behest of China’s main intelligence agency, the Ministry of State Security, Wang lived a double life for over a decade. He held himself out as a critic of the Chinese government so that he could build rapport with people who actually opposed it, then betrayed their trust by telling Beijing what they said and planned, prosecutors said.... Instead of sending the...

Organizers are predicting “tens of thousands” of marchers. They say it will be family friendly and safe. ome critics of Israeli actions in Gaza are worried about a pro-Palestinian march planned for the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, saying a large protest could play into former President Donald Trump’s hands. The critics say the protest could lead to clashes with police or counter protesters that would allow Republicans to blame the chaos on Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and paint the GOP as the party of law and order.

The San Francisco Police Department is touting its fleet of six new surveillance drones as a “game changer” in terms of apprehending criminals. At a press conference on Tuesday, police officials showed footage shot by drones as they were used to make arrests in two separate auto burglary cases, and to disperse a large crowd that was setting off fireworks in a residential neighborhood on the Fourth of July. Police described the examples as “success stories” of deploying drones for law enforcement. “Drones have truly been a game changer for our police department,” police Chief Bill Scott said at the...

The Metropolitan Police has said it will use "every power, tactic and tool" to protect London against "one of the worst spates of violent disorder in the last decade". It follows more than a week of violence in some towns and cities across England and Northern Ireland. More than 100 people were arrested in central London last week after officers clashed with demonstrators in Whitehall. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said the force would "not hesitate to arrest hundreds more" people if further violent disorder took place. "The scenes of racist, thuggish and criminal behaviour across the country have been...

Many patients at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute, an 89-bed facility affiliated with Pennsylvania State University, suffer from schizophrenia, substance abuse, depression, or bipolar disorder. They cannot complete the "activities of daily living," the hospital’s inpatient clinic states. Some are "suicidal, aggressive, or dangerous to themselves or others." During their stay, which is often involuntary, patients participate in group counseling, learn strategies for stress management, have their medication adjusted, and interact with therapy animals. They can also partake in a less orthodox therapeutic activity: registering to vote. Located in a swing state that could decide the 2024 election, the hospital asks...

Harvard University will be offering a course examining medieval texts by using “queer theory.”Harvard’s English department will be featuring a “Queer/Medieval” class in the upcoming spring 2025 semester. The course will be an “introduction to queer theory as an intellectual tool with which to read texts far removed from the political, cultural, and social discourses from which queer theory emerged,” specifically, in this case, medieval texts. “We will ask: what can queer theory offer readers of medieval literature in its explorations of gender, sexuality, race, power, narrative, trauma, and time?” the course description states. The course will use the lens of...
