A recent study shows that there may be a more effective way to treat melanoma by using ascorbate (vitamin C) to increase DNA damage in cancer cells, leading to their death, according to Marcus Cooke. The multi-disciplinary research team found that melanoma cells have more DNA damage and fewer antioxidant defenses compared to normal skin cells. When treated with hydrogen peroxide and vitamin C, melanoma cells showed even more DNA damage and higher cell death rates, while normal cells were protected. Additionally, the study results found that vitamin C boosted the effectiveness of an existing melanoma drug, elesclomol. "We've been...

A new study found low-dose acetylsalicylic acid, also known as aspirin, can reduce inflammatory responses to sleep restriction. Results show that compared with placebo, preemptive administration of low-dose aspirin during sleep restriction reduced pro-inflammatory responses. Specifically, aspirin reduced interleukin-6 expression and COX-1/COX-2 double positive cells in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated monocytes, as well as C-reactive protein serum levels. "The novelty of this study is that it investigated whether we can pharmacologically reduce the inflammatory consequences of sleep restriction," said Larissa Engert. "We used a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug because it has been shown to affect specific inflammatory pathways, which were previously shown to be...

Garland reportedly requested for the president to claim executive privilege on the recordings, fearing that “releasing them could harm future efforts to get officials to cooperate with investigations and sit for taped interviews,” per the Post. This effort is only the most recent in a long line of attacks on the Justice Department’s work.”WATCH: Attorney General Merrick Garland Opening Statement: "I will not...

Judge Aileen Cannon is again ripping up the court schedule in former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case – pushing some of the legal questions that have been before her for months even further down the road. Cannon is planning on holding a sprawling hearing on Trump’s request to declare Jack Smith’s appointment as special counsel invalid, signaling she could be more willing than any other trial judge to veto the special prosecutor’s authority. The planned hearing also adds a new, unusual twist in the federal criminal case against the former president: Cannon on Tuesday said that a variety of...

For much of Joe Biden’s time in office, the White House has held The Wall Street Journal’s news operation in high regard. The paper’s reporters have often been selected to ask questions at Biden’s press conferences. The White House has regularly worked with them privately on stories. And the press shop grew to appreciate The Journal’s unvarnished and dry approach to coverage, having grown annoyed at The Washington Post’s inclination to run “tick tock” stories and, what they felt was, The New York Times’ obsession with the subject of the president’s age. But that relationship is now under serious strain...

One of the most popular books in the 1980s was the satire “Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche.” It was a tongue-in-cheek homage to what even then was a perceived fading masculinity starting to infect our broader society. One of the chapters listed “Historic dates in Real Man history.” Of June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day, it states: “150,000 Real Men storm Normandy beach.” In a way, I could end this piece right there, as I cannot offer a more fitting tribute to what occurred on those hallowed beaches 80 years ago today. But I will try. Because as the...
