On this date in 1955, Thai royal secretary Chaliew Pathumros and royal pages Butr Patamasarin and Chit Singhaseni were shot as regicides. (Many other transliterations of these names, and the other Thai names in this post, are possible.) Few now believe that it was they who killed the young King of Thailand, Ananda Mahidol … but who really did it? Inheriting the throne of Siam — it became Thailand in 1939* — as a nine-year-old expatriate student in Switzerland, the wispy King Ananda would be described by Lord Mountbatten as “a frightened, short-sighted boy … a pathetic and lonely figure.”...

Avdeevka…. From where the Ukrainian Army has shelled the rebel civilians of Donetsk City for TEN YEARS, has fallen to the Russians after ten years, with many reports of the Ukrainian forces in an absolute rout. There are going to be lots of tactical, strategic, and political implications from this that we will see over the next days and weeks. There are reportedly few Ukrainian defenses behind Avdeevka, the Ukrainians put all their eggs into one basket, counting on the deep Soviet-era nuclear bunker system, and defenses built since the end of the civil war to make it impregnable.

Don't lose hope! The only problem with subtitling your book “A Practical Guide to Winning the Culture War” is that people like to ask you if we really are going to win. “Peachy, things look pretty bleak right now. You said we’re going to win. Are we?” It’s true, things do look mighty bleak at the moment. Nasty people who hate us are in charge of everything, from our elite universities to our comically bumbling military. We’re also on track to welcome another ten million or so foreign invaders Our Greatest Strength, who are swarming the cities and rural hinterlands...

Joe Biden stopped to chat with reporters while he was out and about in Delaware on Saturday. Biden suggested Ukraine is a member of NATO in shocking remarks to reporters. “It’s about time we make sure that Congress come home and pass the legislation funding NATO,” Biden said of the Senate’s stalled foreign aid bill which includes billions of dollars for Ukraine. Ukraine is NOT a member of NATO. Biden’s remarks are dangerous.

St. Patrick's Cathedral "only knew that family and friends were requesting a funeral Mass for a Catholic, and had no idea our welcome and prayer would be degraded in such a sacrilegious and deceptive way." The Archdiocese of New York which operates the St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City said that it shares the "outrage over the scandalous behavior at a funeral" earlier in the week for a trans activist and offered "an appropriate Mass of Reparation" to reconsecrate the cathedral. The funeral proceedings celebrated blasphemy, whoredom, and had prayers for access to sex changes. According to the statement,...

A green nonprofit that is indirectly funded by a foreign billionaire is pressuring broadcasters to drop advertisements that criticize the Biden administration’s massive electric vehicle (EV) agenda. Climate Power wrote to numerous broadcasters this week demanding that they stop airing American Fuel and Petrochemicals Manufacturers (AFPM)-funded advertisements in swing state markets that rail against President Joe Biden’s plans to impose widespread EV adoption in the coming years. The charitable organization affiliated with Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss health care mogul and billionaire philanthropist, donates millions of dollars to the Fund for a Better Future, which was the fiscal sponsor for Climate...

Three pony cars made it out of the muscle car era to be part of our modern automotive world. These three are the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Chevy Camaro. The Challenger is barely a pony car, but the Mustang and Camaro provide several engine options leading up to a V8 engine at the top of the line, defining the pony car market. While the Mustang lives on, the Chevy Camaro is dead and won’t likely return in true pony car form. The top-level Chevy Camaro was awesome At the top ZL1 trim, the last two generations of the Camaro...

A Harvard professor’s work on police shootings landed him in the crosshairs of racial bias when “all hell broke loose” over publishing his findings. “…I realized people lose their minds if they don’t like the result.” Recently, journalist Bari Weiss sat down for a live Q&A with Harvard Economics professor Roland Fryer at the fledgling University of Austin where she is a founding trustee. As they engaged in a discussion before prospective students, the award-winning academic addressed a 2016 controversy that involved his findings that determined no “racial bias in police shooting.” Explaining that he himself “expected to see it,”...

Starting in October 2023, I wrote a total of 15 articles or posts, trying to provide a play by play of the siege, combat and conquest of the heavily fortified key bastion of Avdiivka – or, as I will now call it in its alternative Russian Latinization, ‘Avdeevka’. Find here a complete list of my TGP articles about Avdiivka in my ‘Signal to Noise’ Telegram channel. Taking the experiences of covering the sieges of Mariupol and Bakhmut, I predicted that 1) the siege would be long and bloody (check); 2) all the time MSM would comment how Russians were badly...

Is she a bird whisperer? When an unexpected 'visitor' wreaked havoc in a house late at night, one maid went beyond the call of duty to save the day. A video shared by TikTok user Pakalupap1t00 on Thursday (Feb 15) showed his family ducking for cover as a bird flew around their flat. While his dad "hid inside a room" and his mother, sister and brother screamed in fear, their domestic helper appeared to be unfazed. "It's just a bird," she quipped as she tried to catch the bird. After 'exploring' various areas of the flat, the bird took a...

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) went after former President Trump for his legal woes in an interview on MSNBC Saturday. “I’ll take the individual who’s 81 over the guy who has 91 felony counts,” Swalwell said, making a reference to President Biden’s age in an interview on MSNBC’s “The Katie Phang Show” on Saturday. “It’s not about two individuals,” Swalwell continued, speaking about the 2024 election. “It’s about the idea of competence versus chaos, or even greater, freedom versus fascism. If we make it about those ideas, and what they mean in our daily lives, we’re gonna win.”

Participants in the I Quit programme, designed to help them quit smoking, need not worry about being fined or prosecuted as it does not presume they have or use vaping products. But if they are caught using or possessing such products, then they will not be immune from criminal prosecution. Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said this on Feb 16 in Parliament when responding to a question from Associate Professor Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC). Prof Lim had asked whether participants in I Quit, the smoking cessation programme by the Health Promotion Board, were offered immunity from prosecution....

Two deaths in Boulder County, Colorado, in 2023 are the latest in the U.S. to be blamed on the powerful class of synthetic opioids called nitazenes. Most health systems cannot detect nitazenes, so the exact number of overdoses is unknown, but they’re implicated in more than 200 deaths in Europe and North America since 2019, including 11 in Colorado since 2021. One of the two Boulder County deaths is linked to a new formulation called N-Desethyl etonitazene, which was identified by a national laboratory, and is thought to be the first related death. The Conversation interviewed Dr. Christopher Holstege, professor...
