Ellie Owens, her husband, and three young children left Connecticut for Copenhagen in 2022. They moved for work, but have stayed partly because they've found that the experience of raising young children is superior, and cheaper, in Denmark's capital. "Daycare is astronomically cheaper here," Owens told Business Insider in October. "We were paying for my oldest to go three mornings a week to daycare in the US, and we were paying $2,600 a month. And here, I pay around $850 — maybe — for two children to get full-time care."

The U.N. is trash. This is obvious to anyone who pays even mild attention to the issue. While the U.N. has seemed to be a useful organization in the past (maybe), we can’t recall any time in our adult life where the U.N. has shown itself to be useful or, indeed, anything but a craven club for dictators. With that context in mind, the UNRWA is big mad that someone has called them out for it. UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in the Near East, and they got very foot stompy on Twitter/X...

A study has shed light on the complex relationship between serum lipids, lipid-modifying targets, and cholelithiasis, a common condition characterized by the formation of gallstones. The study employed a combination of observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) approaches to comprehensively assess these associations. Cholelithiasis is a prevalent hepatobiliary disorder that primarily affects Western populations. It is a significant risk factor for cholangiocarcinoma, a type of bile duct cancer. Understanding the factors influencing cholelithiasis risk is crucial for developing effective prevention and treatment strategies. Previous research has explored the role of serum lipids and lipid-modifying targets in cholelithiasis development. However, findings have...

"We’re going to win Iowa," DeSantis continued. "I think it’s going to help propel us to the nomination, but I think we’ll have a lot of work that we’ll have to do beyond that. I don’t think you’d take anything for granted." DeSantis said. "We have a much better chance if we’re doing it with me as the candidate."

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that if President Joe Biden wins another term, “we won’t recognize America and the world will be truly on fire.” Anchor Dana Bash said, “I want to ask you about your fellow Republican former Congress Liz Cheney. She has a new book out. We sat down for an interview this week, and she said she’s worried that the chance of a second Trump presidency means the U.S. is, quote, ‘sleepwalking into a dictatorship.’ You, of course, have endorsed Donald Trump. What’s your reaction?”

It’s been just over a month since 18 Mainers lost their lives in a mass shooting in Lewiston. Now, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) says he is putting forward new legislation designed to help curb mass killings without hindering Americans who own a firearm for self-defense or the marksmen who head to the shooting range or the woods during hunting season. King says the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion (GOSAFE) Act would regulate the sale, transfer, and manufacture of gas-operated semi-automatic guns. Also read: Tragedy in Maine: Who are the victims of the Lewiston mass shooting? He is proposing to limit...

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton this week called on Congress to “quickly” pass additional aid for Ukraine, warning that “Russia will win” if the U.S. doesn’t act. Many congressional Republicans have come out against additional support for Ukraine. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, recently questioned “Why would we ever debate giving another dollar to Ukraine when our borders are wide open … and this administration refuses to do anything about it?”

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he did not know when hostage discussions will resume between Israel and Hamas will restart after the fighting reignited over the weekend. Kirby said, “Well, there are no official negotiations going on right now, Kristen, and that’s because of Hamas. Hamas failed to come up with yet another list of women and children that could be released, and we know they’re holding additional women and children – not combatants, not female IDF soldiers, but innocent civilians, women and children that they have that they couldn’t put...

As global leaders and delegates gather in Dubai for the annual UN climate summit, a new analysis shows how the host cities of previous summits could be inundated — if not entirely submerged — by rising ocean waters. The relentless rise of planet-warming pollution has already resulted in severe droughts, deadly floods and rapid melting of glaciers and ice around the world. And scientists say the steady climb of global sea level will continue for many decades as temperatures crank higher. The analysis from Climate Central, a nonprofit climate research group, illustrates the risk if countries fail to halt the...

Picking up momentum from his debate against California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis told Newsmax that exposing Democratic governance is a key way to advance the Republican Party's narrative before the 2024 election. "If you look at what California does, they're the petri dish of American leftism," DeSantis told "Saturday Agenda" host Rob Astorino, who was once the GOP gubernatorial nominee in the second-largest blue state of New York. "They're five years ahead of where [President Joe] Biden and people in D.C. and the national Democratic Party are, but you can bet your bottom dollar that...

Greta Thunberg received a lot of heat after posting a picture with some fellow "activists" holding up signs such as "Stand with Gaza" and "Free Palestine." However it wasn't the signs that upset people the most. It was the object balanced on the knee of the girl behind Thunberg. (It was a stuffed octopus toy. I can't tell its color).

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned that the Western military alliance should be ready for bad news from the Ukrainian front as Kyiv continues to defend against Russia's all-out invasion. "Wars develop in phases," Stoltenberg said in an interview Saturday with German broadcaster ARD. "We have to support Ukraine in both good and bad times," he said. "We should also be prepared for bad news,” Stoltenberg added, without being more specific. His comments come as Western allies debate over ammunition and financial aid for Ukraine, and as Moscow boosts its troop levels. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Friday...
