KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Health officials and people trapped inside Gaza’s largest hospital rejected Israel’s claims that it was helping babies and others evacuate Sunday, saying fighting continued just outside the facility where incubators lay idle with no electricity and critical supplies were running out. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed urgent calls for a cease-fire unless it includes the release of all the nearly 240 hostages captured by Hamas in the Oct. 7 rampage that triggered the war. A day after Netanyahu said Israel was bringing its “full force” with the aim of ending Hamas’ 16-year rule...

Pro-Hamas protestors on the campus of MIT were warned that if they didn’t disperse–they were violating campus policies that prohibited interfering with academic activities and the free movement of students and staff–they would be suspended. The protestors were warned several times and failed to disperse. Jewish students were prevented from entering the campus through the main entrance and were rerouted. The administration promised to suspend students who continued to violate their policies because “a line had been crossed.” Tonight, the administration backed down from their promise. On this date in 1901, Commandant Johannes Lotter was shot at Middelburg. Along with Gideon Scheepers, Lotter is one of the most famed Boer guerrillas from the Second Boer War. Regarded by the British as one of their most nettlesome adversaries in that dirty guerrilla war, Lotter was captured in a bloody early September ambush when matters were well into an unpleasant scorched-earth endgame. This was cause for much slapping of backs among the Union Jack set, and earned for his captor an immediate promotion. Lotter almost immediately found himself in the dock for — well, all the things one...

As the war between Israel and the terrorist group continues, Palestinian civilians are experiencing perilous conditions as Hamas uses them as human shields and prevents them from fleeing the area. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed it tried to send fuel to Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza but was rebuffed because Hamas did not allow the facility to accept the badly needed fuel.Israeli troops on Sunday advanced in the northern Gaza Strip, capturing an urban area near Beit Hanoun as fierce fighting continued around Shifa Hospital and Israel...

In a post hoc analysis of the Phase II NOBILITY trial, researchers found that treatment with obinutuzumab—an antibody that targets a protein expressed on certain immune cells—was superior to placebo for preserving kidney function and preventing flares in patients with lupus nephritis, a kidney condition associated with the autoimmune disease lupus. The analysis compared with standard-of-care treatment alone, the addition of obinutuzumab to lupus nephritis treatment reduced the risk of developing a composite outcome of death, fall in kidney function, or treatment failure by 60%. Adding obinutuzumab also reduced the risk of lupus nephritis relapses by 57% and significantly decreased...

Christie started his trip with a tour of Kfar Azza, a kibbutz that was destroyed by Hamas militants. Speaking with reporters, he reiterated his support for Israel, saying, "I want the people of Israel to know that there are hundreds of millions of Americans who stand with them, who understand the atrocities that were committed, and why in the future we need to stand absolutely shoulder to shoulder with Israel." He also delivered a...

TEL AVIV — Newborns and other patients at Gaza’s largest hospital are dying as power fails and resources run out, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, which said at least 35 babies born prematurely face possible “death at any moment.” Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City has been “out of service” since Saturday morning, according to the ministry, as heavy bombardment and intense fighting outside the complex cause power outages amid a fuel shortage. The challenges for Gaza’s hospitals continue to mount: As fighting has intensified, ambulances have come under fire, power is going out, and dead bodies have piled up...

Attacks by Lebanon's Hezbollah group Sunday wounded seven Israeli troops and 10 other people, Israel's military and rescue services said. The clashes came as skirmishes between the Iran-backed group and Israeli military continue to intensify along the Lebanon-Israel border, threatening to escalate into another front in the Mideast’s latest war. The assault was the most serious incident involving civilians along the Lebanon-Israel border since an Israeli airstrike in south Lebanon on Nov. 5 killed a woman and three children. The Israeli army’s chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said the Hezbollah attack on Israeli civilians was “very serious.”

Ask anyone in Massachusetts: the best place to live out your last few years on Earth is Worcester. Or Springfield. This week, U.S. News & World Report released its ranking of Best Places to Retire, and the only two to crack the top 100 in Massachusetts were Worcester and Springfield. Keep in mind this is a list that ranked Harrisburg, PA, No. 1, and put Flint, Mich., ahead of cities surrounded by natural beauty, culture and attractions like Boise and Las Vegas. This year’s list is based on the evaluation of the nation’s 150 most populated metropolitan areas based on...

One place cut me off at 35 gallons. Another place, 25 Gallons. Today I was cut off at $99. I dont understand why the inconsistency. BTW, I am located in the Huntsville, Alabama area. 87 octane was $2.79 today.

The Biden-Harris campaign's communications director argued that "a brick wall of MAGA extremism" has contributed to Americans struggling financially and working multiple jobs to make ends meet. "That's precisely why we need another four years to continue to finish the job, right? I think it's important, too, that the president, of course, wants to get all of this done. But we have to be honest about the brick wall of MAGA extremism that we continue to run into when we're trying to get things done for the American people," Biden campaign official Michael Tyler told CNN's Victor Blackwell on "First...

…and hollow women, too.I’ve been writing for years about the rise of toxic ideologies on America’s college campuses – totalitarian, anti-Israel, outright anti-Semitic – but still have been surprised by what has happened in these places since October 7. We need to discuss the reasons why it’s gotten so bad.A few days ago, someone republished an essay, written in 2016, by a professor who has taught at several ‘elite’ colleges. Excerpt:My students are know-nothings. They are exceedingly nice, pleasant, trustworthy, mostly honest, well-intentioned, and utterly decent. But their brains are largely empty, devoid of any substantial knowledge that might be...
