New York City Mayor Eric Adams attended Chinese government-linked festivities in Manhattan on Sunday, which marked China’s “National Day,” the anniversary of mass murderer Mao Zedong imposing communism. According to the Chinese consulate in the city, Adams, New York State Assemblywoman Grace Lee, and New York City Council member Christopher Marte joined a “China Day Celebration Parade Festival” in Chinatown. Adams’ participation in the events on October 1, the anniversary of the founding of the “People’s Republic of China,” is notable given mounting reports of Adams maintaining close ties with, including reportedly receiving financial donations from, individuals believed to be...

Just days before the Synod on Synodality kicked off its first round of meetings at the Vatican, a letter from Cardinal Joseph Zen was leaked to media, voicing serious concerns to cardinals and bishops worldwide about the gathering in Rome and advocating for changes to the synod process as well as spirited discussions of the gathering’s topics. The letter, a copy of which was obtained by CNA, dated Sept. 21 — the feast of the Apostle St. Matthew — accuses synod organizers of manipulation and pursuing an agenda, rather than allowing for authentic ecclesiastical discourse. News of the letter’s existence...

Florida will now execute child rapists. Of course, the media says this is "controversial." From News 4 in Jacksonville: A number of new laws are now in effect, as of Sunday. Arguably the most controversial centers around changes to Florida's death penalty. Child rapists can now face execution for their crimes. The law specifically pertains to child victims under the age of 12. RAPING KIDS UNDER 12. That's what we're talking about here. Executing people who would violate children in such a horrific way is considered "controversial." Higher courts have already said imposing death sentences in these types of cases...

House Republicans took revenge on their Democrat colleagues for voting with eight Republican lawmakers to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker of the House. Just hours after the House voted Tuesday on the motion to vacate the speakership, House Speaker pro-tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) kicked Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from her Capitol Building hideaway office. A video circulating on X showed Pelosi’s office being vacated just after Republican leadership gave the order. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), the second-ranking member of the House Democrat leadership, was also asked to vacate his hideaway office in retaliation on Wednesday.

In 701 B.C.E., an African king marched into Syria-Palestine to defend Judah against the invasion of Sennacherib, king of Assyria. Second Kings 19:9 mentions "Tirhakah, king of Cush," coming to the help of Hezekiah, who was up against the Assyrian superpower. Though the Cushites are mentioned only briefly in the biblical text, a number of scholars have argued that their involvement in the conflict against Assyria was decisive in the survival of Jerusalem at this critical historical juncture...The 25th Dynasty of Egypt, which lasted for about a hundred years, from the mid-eighth century to the mid-seventh century B.C.E., was Cushite...

Authorities have not yet located a suspect or suspects responsible for a shooting at a homecoming week celebration at Morgan State University in Baltimore Tuesday that left five students wounded. The shooting prompted an hours-long lockdown of the school. Morgan State Police Chief Lance Hatcher confirmed four of the victims are students at the historically Black college. Worley, who was confirmed as police commissioner on Monday, said investigators did not know how many shooters were involved and the Baltimore Police Department has not released information about the suspect or possible suspects. The shooting happened shortly after the coronation of Mister...

By a vote of 216-210, the House ended Kevin McCarthy’s two-faced, double-dealing speakership, as he became the first and only person booted out as Speaker of the House. A bipartisan majority decided enough was enough with McCarthy who had promised to allow congressmen to read an appropriations bill and wait 72 hours before holding a vote. He broke that promise this weekend. Matt Gaetz moved to remove him. Gaetz and 7 other Republicans joined 208 Democrats to vote McCarthy out. This is a payback. McCarthy and his loyalists joined Democrats to pass the Democrat budget. Gaetz used Democrats to oust...

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungary’s foreign minister on Wednesday said that his government wants guarantees from Kyiv that a Hungarian bank, recently removed from a Ukrainian list of sponsors of Russia’s war, will not be placed back on that list in the future — a sign that Budapest may not be ready to lift its veto of a major military aid package to Ukraine.Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that a Monday decision by the Ukrainian National Agency of Corruption Prevention to remove OTP Bank from the list was a “step in the right direction,” but that Hungary required further assurances...

If you have not yet read the book 1984 by George Orwell, you absolutely must. I loathed that novel when I read it as a teen, because I hated the entire idea of an authoritarian government controlling its people so deftly. The dystopian world it described was just so depressing, so wrong, from the first page to the last. And yet, here we are, almost 75 years after Orwell first penned the book, and we see how that hellish science fiction novel is now playing out before us.Even the left-leaning Wikipedia describes the book as a “cautionary tale” whose theme...

[Catholic Caucus] The Sun Pope? The Sun Pope?Philippe de LabriollePaix Liturgique Letter 962October 3, 2023When Cardinal Müller, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, makes it known in the media that "The Pope is not authorized by Christ to harass good bishops," among whom he includes Bp Strickland, Bp Schneider and probably Bp Rey, it's worth pointing out that this strong support is simply a reiteration of the spirit and letter of Lumen Gentium, the dogmatic constitution of the Second Vatican Council. The Catholic Church does not belong to the Argentine Pope, unlike the Belgian Congo, which...

The evidence-tampering statute being used by the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute hundreds of Jan. 6 defendants is unconstitutionally broad, interferes with First Amendment free speech, and has left prosecutors with “unbridled, standardless discretion to effectively make up their own law,” a new Supreme Court filing argues. The High Court is considering whether to take up a challenge to the use of the law (pdf) brought by Jan. 6 defendant Edward Jacob Lang, 28, of New York. Mr. Lang, at least 317 other defendants, and former President Donald Trump have been charged with corruptly obstructing an official proceeding: the...

Western militaries are running out of ammunition to give to Ukraine, NATO and British officials warned Tuesday, as they urged the bloc’s nations to ramp up production to “keep Ukraine in the fight against Russian invaders.”The news of possible ammunition shortfalls comes after money to buy weapons for Ukraine was not included in a stopgap spending bill the US Congress passed at the weekend to avoid a federal government shutdown.Fresh uncertainty over the future of US aid arose Tuesday when US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who advocated for support of Ukraine, was ousted from his leadership position by Republican colleagues.The...

NATIONAL TACO DAY Get one, two or three on National Taco Day. On October 4th, the day recognizes the savory tortilla stuffed with fillings. It doesn't have to be Tuesday, so get out and enjoy your favorite. #NationalTacoDay The history of tacos predates the arrival of Europeans in Mexico. Anthropological evidence shows the native people living in the lake region of the Valley of Mexico traditionally ate tacos filled with small fish. At the time of the Spanish conquistadors, Bernal Diaz del Castillo, documented the first taco feast enjoyed by Europeans. Hernan Cortes arranged this meal for his captains in...

This article has been updated to include more posts, including those indicating Chairman Jim Jordan's (R-OH) willingness to run for Speaker of the House.Among the names being floated for the new Speaker of the House to replace the ousted Kevin McCarthy include the expected ones, like House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), but also more far-fetched ones, like Donald Trump. Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) of the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government has been another name as well, with a POLITICO headline, "Jim Jordan is entertaining a speakership bid," causing chatter. "Rep....

A Solution to the Problem of Failed Public SchoolsIt may be true, as the late, great Andrew Breitbart famously said, that “politics is downstream of culture.” But both are downstream of education. Nothing is more important to our families or to the future of our country than the moral, social, psychological, and intellectual development of our children. In that regard, the pandemic lockdowns created quite a conundrum for traditionally conservative and “red-pilled” parents. They were on the front lines of the school reopening movement, demanding that children—who were at virtually no risk from covid—be allowed to attend school in person...

Author's note: As in all my dealings with Pastor Stanley, I shared this article with him privately before posting it publicly.According to Pastor Andy Stanley, Dr. Al Mohler’s “version of Christianity draws lines, and Jesus drew circles. He drew circles so large, and He included so many people in His circle that it consistently made religious leaders nervous. And His circle was big enough to include sinners like me, and I come from a long line of sinners like me.”Yes, “On one occasion, Jesus said, ‘Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you...

Jason Roth lives in a van with his dog Wally. He’s both homeless and a homeowner, all at the same time. “It’s frustrating, extremely frustrating. It’s something I can’t fully wrap my head around,” he said. Jason is making mortgage payments for his Rainer Valley home and paying for pilot school. He is owed five months’ rent - a total of some $29k in back rent, plus utilities. “I do come here often just to look at my house, and miss it …and wish I could be in it,” he said. Jason’s deadbeat renter is listing the downstairs living space...

I am writing this in response to multiple requests by those in my community. After this last weekend, many Christians feel even more betrayed by Western Christian leadership in general, and Andy Stanley specifically. For those still unaware, Andy Stanley, who has perpetuated controversy in recent years with skeptical comments about the authority of Scripture, left little to the imagination about his true beliefs on sexuality when he planned his “Unconditional” Conference. Targeting compassionate Christian families with LGBT acolytes and activists, these well-meaning families, motivated to show love, put themselves under teaching that they believed came from a reputable source...
