I’m surprised a 73 year-old woman survived a bear attack.

My guess is the bear didn’t see her as food, rather as a threat

Never take a Dog into a national park with bears .
Never go into bear territory during pre hibernation time .

I guess I should move hundreds of miles away.

As I live in bear country.

Personally I just carry a firearm.

In autumn bears will eat virtually anything to store fat for the winter hibernation. The woods may be dark, lovely and deep but only a fool would go hiking without a powerful firearm.

Canadians allow bears to go armed, but not humans. They are required to die in the event of an altercation.

I’m sure the dog enraged the bear, and the wife tried to protect the dog. and this is the result. I’ve seen it time and time again with dogs, women, and bears.
