On July 1, a new law took effect in Florida: SB 1718/Chapter No. 2023-40. This law clamps down on illegal immigration by, among other things, requiring all businesses employing 25 or more workers to use E-Verify to confirm that an employee is legal to work. The New York Times sent Miriam Jordan to the Sunshine State to see what’s going on. Her article, published August 4, is entitled, "New Florida Immigration Rules Start to Strain Some Businesses." It says “some immigrant communities” are afraid. That is, the illegals themselves and those who depend on them. Such an article is incomplete...

The ultimate monument to moving on — or a misguided attempt at reparations? Survivors and first responders devastated by the 9/11 terrorist attacks are divided over news that they can apply for “affordable” apartments in a ritzy new building just steps from Ground Zero. The 900-foot skyscraper, 5 World Trade Center, will be constructed at the corner of Greenwich and Albany streets in lower Manhattan and is set to feature 1,200 plush apartments — and haunting views overlooking the site where more than 2,900 New Yorkers were murdered. As part of a new agreement brokered by Gov. Kathy Hochul, 80...

There is a silent tragedy of epic proportions going on in our country. It’s silent because the media refuses to connect the dots. Have you noticed the tsunami of recent headlines about high-profile Americans who “died suddenly” or suffered heart attacks, strokes, or blood clots at young ages. Celebrities, athletes, entertainers, CEOs are dropping dead, or having heart attacks. Still, the media whistles past the graveyard. There are always a thousand excuses. Anything and everything, EXCEPT blaming the Covid vaccine. It can never be the vaccine. Strange thing though. Virtually every one of these dead, crippled, disabled or seriously-ill people...

U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) Friday filed articles of impeachment against Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors. “It’s long past time to impeach Joe Biden,” said Rep. Steube. “He has undermined the integrity of his office, brought disrepute on the Presidency, betrayed his trust as President,

Is there anyone more in the tank for Team Biden than The Washington Post and its “fact checker” Glenn Kessler? In the latest blow to his own credibility (and his employer’s), Kessler has again sneakily “updated” an October 2020 fact check of a New York Post article that cast doubt on our 100% accurate reporting that Joe Biden, as vice president, was involved in son Hunter’s influence-peddling operation via a 2015 dinner with Hunter and Burisma big Vadim Pozharskyi. Kessler readily accepted the Team Biden line back then and simply parroted it: “Officials who worked for Biden at the time...

Excess mortality has just increased more than 40% for children aged 0-24.. There’s a hidden iceberg that America has already hit, and that iceberg is “Operation Warp Speed.” People are dying in far greater numbers now than before the COVID vaccines — for no reason. They’re dying younger too. What does the iceberg look like? How bad is the damage? It looks like this chart — where excess death for the youngest age group 0-24 has spiked to a 13 standard deviation change. That’s an increase of greater than 40% excess mortality over the last two years. That’s 12,000 children...

"Russia is competing with Western countries to supply weapons to Ukraine," Colonel Oleksandr Saruba told Deutsche Welle. According to the German outlet, Saluba works for the Ukrainian military center that receives and analyzes captured weaponry. Ukraine has been making use of captured weapons and armor since the outset of the war — in March 2022 it announced that it had captured 24 Uragan missiles and had aimed them back at the enemy. According to Deutsche Welle, the captured technology is useful in another way. Probing them provides information on where Russia is receiving its high-tech parts from, which could guide...

Police say that 24-year-old Hannah Martin was crossing the highway to get to the Tavern Sports Bar when 45-year-old Kenneth Harrison ran into her with his 2005 Chevy Tahoe. Martin's body landed in the parking lot of the tavern where efforts to save her life failed, and she was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital, according to an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Harrison had pulled his truck into the parking lot, where an unknown number of tavern patrons and bystanders assaulted him and beat him so badly he was airlifted to a local trauma center....

Alberto Gonzales’ tenure as U.S. attorney general was tough to defend. The Brennan Center for Justice’s Andrew Cohen, during his time as CBS News’ chief legal analyst, wrote in 2007, “By any reasonable standard, the Gonzales Era at the Justice Department is void of almost all redemptive qualities. He brought shame and disgrace to the Department.” A year later, Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick added that Gonzales helped create a Justice Department in which “politics sometimes had no end.” Nevertheless, Gonzales remained quite popular with Republicans, even after he left George W. Bush’s cabinet, which makes his latest Washington Post op-ed all...

Democratic strategist James Carville isn’t one to hold his tongue, and in an interview with The Hill this week, he wasn’t shy about offering his uncensored options on former President Trump and No Labels, the group flirting with backing a third-party candidate. The longtime political adviser to Bill Clinton known for his folksy tone, was unabashedly critical of the No Labels effort, criticizing the group for not being open about its donors. A number of Democrats fear the effort could cost President Biden the White House if he and Trump are the major party nominees. Carville was salty with his...

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Illinois Supreme Court found the state's assault weapons ban constitutional Friday, overturning a lower court decision. Governor JB Pritzker signed an assault weapons ban earlier this year. In the 4-3 ruling, the court found, "First, we hold the circuit court erroneously entered summary judgment for plaintiffs on their equal protection and special legislation claims. Plaintiffs are not similarly situated to the trained professionals. To the extent plaintiffs claim they possess restricted items, they are not treated differently from the grandfathered individuals. To the extent plaintiffs claim they do not possess restricted items, they are dissimilar to...

Ukraine backers on Capitol Hill are itching for President Joe Biden to step up his case for why the US should send more money to Ukraine in its fight against Russia, as warning bells sound about the American public’s support for Kyiv.White House officials are confident the $24 billion in supplemental funding for Ukraine the president requested Thursday will ultimately get the congressional backing it needs to make it to his desk, and administration officials say they have no plans to change their message about the urgency of fighting Russian aggression against its neighbor. But a major concern among Ukraine supporters...

Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund gave his account of what happened during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, in an interview with Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson. Sund, who was present at the Capitol riot, alleged that federal agencies withheld information and warning signs of potential dangers in the days leading up to the riot. His previous interview with Carlson on his former Fox show never aired. Sund said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) privately expressed concern of possible violence breaking out during the “Stop the Steal” rally, but did not...

Criticism of the FBI’s killing of a Utah man who had made death threats against President Joe Biden on social media quickly made its way through far-right circles with some calling it an “assassination.” But law enforcement and legal experts say based on the information available the FBI’s actions were likely appropriate and justified given the man’s access to guns and the violent specificity of his threats, which went well beyond the bounds of free speech protections.“The First Amendment only goes so far. Not all speech is protected, and he crossed a line,” said Karl Schmae, a retired FBI supervisor...

For a long time American officials have advised — and often pressured — Israel to make concessions of various kinds to the Arabs. And, upon reflection, some have regretted their advice, or their wrongheaded comments about Israel’s ongoing campaign of self-defense against terror groups, but that hasn’t stopped the flow of advice and comments from Washington. Here is more about officials who have admitted to making “mistaken” comments to, and advice for, Jerusalem: “Ex-State Department Officials Admit They Were Wrong,” by Stephen M. Flatow, JNS.org, August 1, 2023: …Recall, for example, the infamous episode of Dennis Ross and the terror...

Public safety and justice are the foundation of an equitable society. They are the keys to prosperity, good health and the ability of all to lead a productive life. One of us campaigned for mayor on the importance of making New York City a safer place to live, work and raise a family. A little over a year and a half in office, this administration continues to see the fruits of our labors. Shootings are down an incredible 27% through the first seven months of this year. That means 274 fewer people have been a victim of gun violence in...

About 49,500 people took their own lives last year in the U.S., the highest number ever, according to new government data posted Thursday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which posted the numbers, has not yet calculated a suicide rate for the year, but available data suggests suicides are more common in the U.S. than at any time since the dawn of World War II. “There’s something wrong. The number should not be going up,” said Christina Wilbur, a 45-year-old Florida woman whose son shot himself to death last year. “My son should not have died,” she said. “I...

KAMPALA (Reuters) -Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday denounced the World Bank's decision to suspend new funding in response to a harsh anti-LGBTQ law and vowed to find alternative sources of credit. The country would have to revise its budget to absorb the move's potential impact, a junior finance minister said. The World Bank said on Tuesday that the law, which imposes the death penalty for certain same-sex acts, contradicted its values and that it would pause new funding until it could test measures to prevent discrimination in projects it finances. ...
