Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., slammed the Supreme Court's ruling Thursday that limited the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to regulate bodies of water, calling it a "MAGA" court even though the decision was 9-0. On Thursday, the high court issued an opinion that narrowed the EPA's broad definition of Waters of the United States (WOTUS). The court said the federal government must define WOTUS as a water source with a "continuous surface connection" to major bodies of water. The decision upended an attempt by the Biden administration to regulate wetlands, lakes, ponds, streams and other "relatively permanent" waterways, which...

The expression “crossing the Rubicon” refers to the actions of Julius Caesar in crossing the Rubicon River and marching on Rome. Roman armies were forbidden to do so. The rule was very practical. The Romans understood the danger of allowing a large armed force to march on the capital city. To allow this might spell the end of the republic. Best that popular conquering generals and their armies stay a safe distance away and respect the democratic institutions at the heart of Roman democracy. Caesar broke the rule. He marched on Rome. He didn’t care what the Senators thought. The...

The White House on Thursday rolled out a 60-page strategy to counter anti-Semitism in the United States that some Jewish and anti-hate groups say misses the mark. The Biden administration cites an alarming rise in hate crimes that disproportionately impact American Jews as part of the impetus for the government-led effort to combat anti-Semitism. As part of the strategy’s four-pillar approach, the White House seeks to increase awareness and understanding of antisemitism, including how it threatens America, and broaden appreciation of Jewish American heritage. The administration would also like to improve safety and security for Jewish communities; reverse the normalization...

First lady Jill Biden suffered a Jeb Bush “please clap” moment on Thursday, when her applause line fell utterly flat during an event in Washington. “I’ve visited red states and blue states and I’ve found that the common values that unite us are deeper than our divisions,” Jill told an audience at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, DC. After saying the line, the first lady paused for a moment before reacting with surprise at spectators’ non-reaction. “And, um, I thought you might clap for that,” said Biden, drawing laughs and applause.

I predict that, long term, singer Steve Young will be more famous than his namesake, the great '49ers quarterback, whom nfl.com ranks as the 15th greatest quarterback of all time. At the moment the footballer is much more famous than the singer, whose birthday is coming up on the 12th of July. Who wants to help me bridge the current gap in fame between these two men? The organ of the German episcopate regrets the existence of priests who do not bless gay couplesChristoph Paul Hartmann deplores on Katolische.de that there is no "unified approach" among the German clergy on the blessing of homosexual couples or those not united by Catholic marriage. At the bottom of every heretic, of every 'dissident', there is always an ordinancer who wants to convert orthodoxy into dissent and then ban it. The German episcopate has already defied Rome and, above all, the unanimous Tradition of the universal Church by blessing regularized sodomy with a rite yet to be standardized, despite the express...
