The restaurant, located in the food court of Greenbriar Mall to the southwest of the city, is set to shut for good at 4 p.m. on Saturday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Printed-out signs posted at the location don't give reasons for the closure. Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy opened the restaurant in 1967 in what was one of the first indoor malls in the Southeast. He'd previously set up a diner in Atlanta called The Dwarf Grill, later renamed The Dwarf House, with his brother Ben....

In doing so, it has exposed one of the...

A local resident told the Tampa City Council Thursday that the cost of reparations in the city should be "$3 million per person." And we have to put White people on notice that we want our reparations. Our foreparents and us didn’t work for free and [get] underpaid and all this nonsense and the White folks get away with it," the man added," while "they talk about...

When Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot decided to include their pronouns at the end of their work emails, they thought they were doing a good thing: following what they viewed as an emerging professional standard, and also sending a message of inclusivity at the Christian university where they worked. But their bosses at Houghton University, in upstate New York, saw the matter very differently. Administrators at Houghton, which is affiliated with a conservative branch of the Methodist Church, asked Ms. Zelaya and Mr. Wilmot, two residence hall directors, to remove the words “she/her” and “he/him” from their email signatures, saying...

An arrestee on Wednesday afternoon was found with scissors in a “peculiar” location after a body scan at the La Porte County Jail (LCJ). Lieutenant Jeff Holt – Assistant Jail Commander of Operations, was assisting jail deputies with the intake of the arrestee inside the jail. Police say while completing the process of the intake, the arrestee refused to participate in a body scan. The body scan is a requirement for all arrestees to complete prior to acceptance as an inmate at the LCJ. Police say the arrestee reluctantly agreed to participate in a scan. While reviewing the scan image,...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon has overestimated the value of the weapons it has sent to Ukraine by at least $3 billion — an accounting error that could be a boon for the war effort because it will allow the Defense Department to send more weapons now without asking Congress for more money. The acknowledgment Thursday comes at a time when Pentagon is under increased pressure by Congress to show accountability for the billions of dollars it has sent in weapons, ammunition and equipment to Ukraine and as some lawmakers question whether that level of support should continue. It also...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.” John 16:21This truth can certainly be extended to any form of anguish we experience for a good reason. Note that the pain experienced in childbirth is pain for a good and holy reason. Therefore, the pain is forgotten, in a sense, when the mother sees and holds her newborn child. That suffering is...

A top central banker has warned of the damage the rush to ‘Net-Zero’ risks doing to Europe’s economy, and illustrates the point by noting erasing Europe’s built heritage would be necessary to meet extreme green demands. Among comments by Paolo Angelini, deputy governor at the Bank of Italy about European Net Zero targets which, in his opinion, risk doing more harm than good, the central banker articulated what level of change would actually be needed from Europeans to meet those demands. While saying pushing Europe to net zero risks destabilising the continent’s economy and undermining Europe’s ability to lead on...

On May 9, the Connecticut House of Representatives passed a bill that would effectively expand the definition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation to include “discrimination” against so-called “minor-attracted persons.” H.B. 6638, also known as “An Act Revising the State’s Antidiscrimination Statutes,” passed by a landslide margin of 132-17, with two members absent from the vote. A significant majority of the state’s 53 House Republicans voted in favor of the bill. The state’s House Democratic caucus described the bill as seeking to “modernize and improve consistency in” the state’s “discrimination statutes.” The Connecticut American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU),...

Anticipation is mounting for Kyiv to finally launch its long-awaited counteroffensive and deliver a decisive blow that would rid the country of the Russian menace — but the consensus is that the road to liberation will be a long and bloody grind. Ukrainian military brass have been understandably tight-lipped about their plans, not wanting to tip their hand and spoil what President Volodymyr Zelensky ironically called “the surprise,” but recent events in Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine suggest that the counteroffensive may be imminent. Ukraine has an “imperative” to go on the offensive in order to demonstrate to its Western partners...

During the pandemic, US employers embraced the new––and necessary––normal of working from home. But in the past year, the situation has begun changing rapidly. Major employers like Disney and Amazon have been moving employees back into the office for a few days a week––while over at Twitter, last November Elon Musk scrapped its work from home policy. As for what the wider landscape looks like in the US, a recent study from Pew Research Center shows that while the number of solely remote workers is dropping, hybrid working is becoming increasingly attractive.
