Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, staring down a U.S. default if Congress does not reach a deal to raise the debt ceiling, argued on Thursday that the country should find a new way to avoid similar showdowns in the future. “Personally, I think we should find a different system for deciding on fiscal policy,” Yellen said at a G7 meeting in Japan, according to The Associated Press, when asked about the debt ceiling. Yellen, who stressed it was her personal opinion and not that of President Biden, floated the idea that Congress could repeal the debt ceiling entirely. Or the president...

This morning’s consumer price index (CPI) print was a slightly better than expected 4.9%, raising hopes that the Fed will be able to stop tightening pretty soon. But this speculation completely misses the point, which is that when the Fed finally does stop raising rates, monetary conditions will continue to tighten for a long time. And not just in the US, but everywhere. The world is awash in short-term debt that has to be rolled over. With interest rates now at the highest level in a decade, everything that rolls over going forward will do so at a higher rate....

President Biden dusted off a cringeworthy joke about how “thin” the walls were at his childhood home while delivering a campaign-style speech in Westchester about the debt ceiling crisis. Biden, 80, was speaking Wednesday at SUNY Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York, blasting Republicans in Congress for demanding spending cuts as a pre-condition to increasing the debt limit in a bid to stave off a potential US default. While discussing his middle-class roots, the president shared a well-worn vignette about growing up in a large family sharing a modest home in the suburbs of Claymont, Delaware.

Russians will soon get an “unpleasant surprise” regarding their invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly made an ominous statement regarding the future of the Ukraine war, saying that the invading Russians will soon experience an “unpleasant surprise” regarding the conflict. It comes as the current Russian offensive against the city of Bakhmut appears to falter slightly, with forces loyal to the Putin administration now engaged in significant political infighting over preferential treatment and the availability of vital ammo supplies.

(Daily readings from the USCCB)“If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.” John 15:10When Jesus spoke the line above, He followed it by saying, “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.” These two lines, taken side by side, provide a helpful unity of Jesus’ teaching regarding holy obedience to Him.First, Jesus speaks of the necessity of keeping His commandments. To some, such a statement, when taken by itself, can seem burdensome, dictatorial,...

Royal Oaks, Calif. (KION-TV)- A large group of farmworkers and migrant families find themselves in a desperate search for housing after the illegal units they are living in were discovered by social workers in Monterey County on Friday. a closeup of a tiny LED in the middle of a microchip - Credit: Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Scientists at MIT’s Singapore-based research center have built the world’s smallest LED — and then used it to create the world’s smallest holographic microscope, a breakthrough that foreshadows a future in which smartphones could do high-res microscopy. Chips of light: In most of our devices, currents of electrons travel across microchips, where tiny features called “transistors” act as on/off switches controlling their flow — but electronic microchips aren’t the only kind. There are also photonic microchips, which manipulate the...

More than three years after COVID-19 first sowed death and disruption, state and federal pandemic-related emergencies are officially ending Thursday. The end of the emergency declarations will bring a slew of changes to state and federal requirements and programs related to COVID-19. The changes come now that hospitals are no longer overflowing with COVID-19 patients and daily deaths across the country have dropped. “The reason it’s no longer considered an emergency is we now have vaccines, we have treatments, we have adequate testing capabilities,” said Dr. John Segreti, hospital epidemiologist at Rush University Medical Center. “It’s no longer the same...

You must have seen the news stories about the attack outside a shopping mall in Texas. If you didnât read the whole article, at least you scanned the headlines. It was awful that innocent people were attacked and many were killed. In response, some gun-control politicians said we should have more gun-free zones. That makes good headlines, and âgun-freeâ zones have the support of a surprising group of people. Like us, they just want to feel safe as they go about their business. Maybe you feel the same way, so letâs see if you agree. Everyone wants to feel a...

Pray For The Peace of JerusalemLuke 7 The Faith of the Centurion 7 When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So...

She was recently reunited with the car after it was stolen in November 2010.Dave Killen / The Oregonian Thirteen years after someone stole her sleek black Chevy Nova SS with red vinyl seats, Cristin Elliott got the car back. With tears in her eyes, she sat behind the wheel for the first time since September 2010, when she’d parked it outside a friend’s house. The motor wouldn’t start when she turned the key. Someone had...

A Colorado momma bear is suing Wellington Middle School in Fort Collins, Colo., after learning they pulled her sixth-grade daughter into a secret transgender recruiting meeting disguised as an “art club.” “When she got there, she very quickly learned it was actually a gender and sexuality awareness club,” Erin Lee ... “What you hear in here, stays in here,” the mystery groomer allegedly told the kids, suggesting that telling their parents wasn’t “safe.” Lee further disclosed that the guest presenter informed the kids they were transgender if they didn’t feel totally comfy with their gender. “She explained to my daughter...

Recently there has been a spate of horrific murders. The killers, whether committing mass shootings or single homicides, are hard to stereotype. They can be clearly either mentally ill or simply innately evil. They can kill for revenge, for ideological purposes, out of hatred, for notoriety—or for no known reason at all. They are probably left-wing and right-wing, white, black, and brown, young, and old. While their weapons of choice are semiautomatic rifles, there are plenty of killers who favor handguns and even knives. Unfortunately, these tragedies increasingly have become politicized. Yet our media and politicians do not apply a...

On the heels of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson announcing Tuesday that he's planning a new program to air on Twitter, "NBC News NOW" guest host Tom Costello brought in former CNN host Brian Stelter for a chat about it all, NewsBusters said. (snip)Costello continued with a jaw-dropping question: “Will anybody be able to police what Carlson says? Or is this the point? It's just a free-for-all?”Stelter didn't appear shocked by the "police" reference: “I think this is the point. It is a free-for-all. It's what Elon Musk wants to provide. This move by Tucker may cement the idea...

Few of his supporters were surprised to learn that Trump was going to do a sit-down in New Hampshire for CNN. The man does not shy away from potential political disasters; he thrives on them, runs straight at them, unafraid. Why? Because he always comes out of these things having won bigly. Not only is he quick thinking and knowledgeable when it comes to the facts on all the relevant issues, he is gloriously entertaining, verbally and visually. His facial expressions and gestures say as much he does with words. The CNN sit-down Wednesday night was no exception. Host Kaitlan...

Gimme Shelter! At least EXPENSIVE shelter under Joe Biden. A few days ago I wrote about the suffering of America’s middle class under Biden’s Reign of (Economic) Error. Housing is far more expensive under Biden as are energy prices, car prices, food prices, and auto loan rates. Biden’s economy is truly unaffordable for millions of Americans. Then we have yesterday’s inflation report that revealed 25 straight months of negative REAL average weekly wage growth. Yikes! Inflation is still growing faster than nominal wage growth, putting Americans further behind. Then we have Owner’s Equivalent Rent rising to 8.1% year-over-year (YoY), a...
