The University of Helsinki announced Monday the institution will confer climate change activist Greta Thunberg with an honorary Doctorate of Theology. In its news release, the Finland-based university called the honorary degree its “highest recognition,” and 20-year-old Thunberg of Sweden is one of 30 individuals set to be honored as part of the school’s annual graduation ceremonies this May. The announcement came just one day before a Swedish court gave Thunberg and hundreds of other climate activists approval “to proceed with a class action lawsuit against the Swedish state for ‘insufficient climate policy,'” Reuters reported. “Thunberg, and 600 other young...

NEW YORK – Donald Trump is expected to be indicted on Wednesday, but his arraignment in New York will not take place until next week, according to a new report from DailyMail.com. Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, will be making the indictment.

“They’re Republicans. They don’t like to be told what to do. We need to break that.”Anthony Fauci declared that the government must “break” the attitude of Republicans who “don’t like being told what to do” about their health. In a new episode of ‘American Masters,’ set to be broadcast on Tuesday on PBS, documentarians followed Fauci around for two years from January 2021 onwards, when he became Chief Medical Advisor to the President. Fauci is shown out and about in an African-American neighbourhood in Washington DC in June 2021. Accompanied by Mayor Muriel Bowser, Fauci and others are attempting to...

While there are a lot of choices, the early betting is on a Capitol Hill firebrand uniquely poised to bring in the libertarian wing of the GOP, which could provide a bump of 3% to 4% of the vote. “There are only two realistic GOP nominees: Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis,” said an adviser to House Republicans who is also close to several past conservative presidential candidates. Since neither is likely to pick the other as a running mate, the adviser offered libertarian Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) as a good fit. “Rand Paul as VP for either eliminates the need...

Two celebrated, decades-old San Francisco bookstores are set to close this year, marking the end of an era for Alexander Book Company and The Magazine. Bonnie Stuppin, one of the owners of Alexander Book Company, said the SoMa bookstore will likely shutter toward the end of April after 32 years of service. The reason, she says, is because downtown San Francisco offices aren’t nearly as packed as they used to be. “We’re not seeing enough customers to justify opening the doors and turning the lights and paying the staff to come down,” she told SFGATE. “I don’t know what needs...

Yo, some people are really serious about their McDonald's... Now that's dedication to your fast food! And just look at those crazy eyes! Scary stuff! This was Florida woman Quavi Young's second trip to the McDonald's drive-thru that evening, and apparently she tried to order something that was not on the menu. Now, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm guessing there's no secret menu at McDonald's. Regardless, the fact that employees couldn't offer this mysterious menu item — one which is not specified in the report so I can only guess it was a McRib — this put Young over...

Bakhmut is encircled. All roads in and out of it are under Russian artillery fire. Over the last three days fighting has largely stopped there. No one seems to know why the operation was halted. There are unconfirmed claims that Ukraine is preparing a counterattack to free Bakhmut from its encirclement. That attack is supposed to go off as soon as the muddy ground has dried up a bit. Meanwhile other encirclement has taken place in Avdiivka: Avdiivka (Ukrainian: Авдіївка, IPA: [ɐu̯ˈd(j)ijiu̯kɐ]; is a city of regional significance in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The police who responded to a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last May held off on confronting the shooter inside the classroom out of concern over the AR-15 rifle he used, according to a report. A new investigation from the Texas Tribune found that officers decided that “immediately confronting the gunman” and the assault-style weapon “would be too dangerous,” although some of the officers on-scene were equipped with the same rifle.

US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel condemned the Knesset's passage of an amendment repealing the Disengagement from northern Samaria and allowing Jews to return to the four communities which were destroyed there in 2005. "The United States is extremely troubled that the Israeli Knesset has passed legislation rescinding important parts of the 2005 Disengagement Law, including the prohibition on establishing settlements in the northern West Bank," Patel said. .....

CNN regular Van Jones took some backlash after suggesting that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would be wise to back off and not indict former President Donald Trump — or at least wait and see whether he’d face charges in Georgia first. Jones made the comments during a Monday panel discussion hosted by Pamela Brown, and he argued that pushing for an indictment over “hush money” allegedly paid to a porn star was proof that the leftists did not have their act together with regard to coming after Trump. “If anybody is a Republican and they had been afraid there...

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s team sent out a defiant public message after House Republicans opened an investigation into the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump. Fox News reported on Tuesday a statement from a Bragg spokesperson one day after GOP lawmakers demanded records and testimony from the prosecutor who is investigating Trump over alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election cycle. “We will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the justice process, nor will we let baseless accusations deter us from fairly applying the law,” the spokesperson said. “In every prosecution,...

Explanation: Can dust be beautiful? Yes, and it can also be useful. The Taurus molecular cloud has several bright stars, but it is the dark dust that really draws attention. The pervasive dust has waves and ripples and makes picturesque dust bunnies, but perhaps more importantly, it marks regions where interstellar gas is dense enough to gravitationally contract to form stars. In the image center is a light cloud lit by neighboring stars that is home not only to a famous nebula, but to a very young and massive famous star. Both the star, T Tauri, and the nebula, Hind's...

As businesses around the country struggle to hire the teams they need to grow, part of the solution lies in early childhood education. What do child care and business growth have in common? Everything, as I told lawmakers I met on the Hill last week. Even before the pandemic, an estimated half of all American families lived in “child care deserts,” communities where there simply is not enough child care to meet demands. We lost thousands more child care providers during the COVID years, and as a result, parents – particularly lower income families and rural Americans – are often...
