Chris Rock joked that former President Donald Trump was “romantic” for allegedly paying off porn star Stormy Daniels — while calling lawmakers “stupid” for wanting him arrested, warning it will only inflate his popularity. The 58-year-old funnyman addressed the expected arrest as he helped honor Adam Sandler at the Mark Twain Prize late Sunday — directly addressing lawmakers in the audience, including Nancy Pelosi. ‘”Are you guys really going to arrest Trump?” Rock asked the crowd, according to the Daily Mail, which noted that several officials from the Biden administration were in the Kennedy Center crowd. “Do you know this...

UN chief Antonio Guterres says a major new report on climate change is a "survival guide for humanity". Clean energy and technology can be exploited to avoid the growing climate disaster, the report says. The chance to secure a livable future for everyone on Earth is slipping away. That was the dire message from a United Nations report released Monday, the culmination of more than six years of work by thousands of climate scientists contributing to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). “There is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all,” the report’s authors wrote. Still, there’s hope. The technology needed to adapt to climate change and keep harmful emissions at bay is available, the report says, arguing that a clear path exists...

A report from the United Nations climate change panel doubles down on calls for action to combat planetary warming amid a “rapidly closing window” in a new report released Monday. The latest report from the intergovernmental panel on climate change is a “synthesis” of three recent reports which said that climate change was “unequivocally” caused by humans, that it will increase premature deaths and other poor health outcomes and that a “substantial reduction” in global fossil fuel use is needed to combat the problem. Similar to these other reports, the latest iteration notes that the planet has already warmed about...

he Biden administration’s bulletin board, also known as the Washington Post, featured an article last week headlined: “Biden takes heat for border measures, but illegal crossings are down.” Various other news outlets echoed this theme, using terms such as “plunged” and “plummeted,” to describe what is, in fact, a record-high number of illegal crossings in both January and February. How did the administration pull off this “plunge”? Basically, by narrowing the focus and by redefining what counts as an illegal border crossing. “The Biden administration has started using its port parole program shell game to feign ‘lawfulness’ and distract from...

Its no mystery to me that San Francisco’s First Republic Bank is hurting. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is calling for hearings into the banking meltdown. Hey Liz, look at San Francisco’s First Republic Bank as a case study. The infamous Covid surge in M2 Money supply (green line) produced a big surge in bank price stocks, thanks in part to the insane spending that Congress made following Covid (I’m looking at you, Liz!). But now The Fed is slowing M2 Money growth and banks like First Republic are paying the price. As The Fed tightens, earnings per share for First...

Chinese leader Xi Jinping landed in Russia on Monday for a much-anticipated three-day state visit, taking a joint stand with President Vladimir Putin against the West even as the Russian leader stands accused by the International Criminal Court of war crimes in Ukraine. The two men, each positioned as “leader for life” of a nuclear power, celebrated their “no limits” relationship in Beijing together in early 2022, just weeks before Putin ordered his full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and they have met about 40 times. But Monday’s visit, the first by Xi since the invasion, represents a display of tacit support...

A scratched or slightly damaged electric battery might be enough for some insurers to write off entire cars, as for many electric vehicles there is no way to repair battery packs after collisions. As a result, the consumer — who likely acquired an electric vehicle wanting to reduce monthly costs — faces higher premiums and some countries are starting to see electric vehicle batteries piling up in scrapyards, according to Reuters. Matthew Avery, research director at automotive risk intelligence company Thatcham Research, said the goal of electric vehicles was sustainability, but a lack of reparability is creating a whole new...
