Thank you, Dan!
#48/60 Stom
#70 Lhermitte
#73 Swaish
#78 Tissot - Love how he conveys the fading form of Christ
#80 Steen
#71 is awesome
the artist painted Good Surprise on their faces
I wondered if anyone would like Tissot’s.
I realize that a lot of the portrayed figures in these old paintings are patrons or other notables - but some of these guys don’t look like they’re going to set any record times hoofing it back to Jerusalem - #66 BERNARDO STROZZI is prime example.
LOL. Well, Larry, they’ve certainly had divine aid so far, so perhaps that will continue....
Good Morning Dan, and happy ‘new week’ to all.
Hard to choose just a few;
#48 Stom
#60 Stom
#61 Rubens
#63 Tarchiani
#70 Lhermitte
Thank You Dan!
“every believer has had that same moment of finally recognizing Him.”
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Amen Dan, and we are grateful!
Matthew 10:8
Freely you have received, freely give.
Glad that the pickins aren’t slim.
This is a wonderful project. I am less interested in the New Testament business but am so proud of your extraordinary efforts here. Truly an Oeuvre you should be proud of for a lifetime...
I hope you will write a book!
Just an AWESOME project. Well done!
golux
Thanks, golux. My goal in editing these threads comes from 1Corinthians 10:31: “...whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
I am attentive to the Lord’s direction for future endeavors—it is entirely His call. A third round on FR, another website, a book....
Still, the fact that “the New Testament business” seems uninteresting to you suggests that I have failed in some substantial way.
I do; it captures perfectly that unearthly moment when He disappeared and they finally realize Who He is.
Well said. Such a metaphor for that moment which must come before one can be born again.
Not at all! It is just that, born a Jew, and having had the privilege of a Catholic and Anglican schooling and upbringing, I am more and perhaps more exclusively Jewish, and indeed un-messianic, than I ever was. It is an entirely personal thing and I do not begrudge anyone else’s beliefs. I enjoy it all, and so much glory to the Lord, after all, in these magnificent works and in this carefully and admirably selected collection.
Beyond your deep-rooted Jewish identity, you mentioned your Anglican and Catholic education. Along the way, surely you must have heard the Gospel, which the Bible states several times but which is simply this:
that if you believe that Jesus arose from the dead, and repent from being your own boss and turn your life over to Him, then He will save you from hell and take you to heaven forever.
Why do I claim that He is gaining on you? For several reasons:
1. Repetition
Not everyone gets knocked off his horse and onto his butt, seemingly without warning, like Saul did on his way to Damascus. Researchers surveyed Christians and learned they had heard the Gospel on average between seven and eight times before believing. God is continuing to deliver His Good News to you, if nowhere else here, in this Bible-art series you so enjoy.
2. Prayer
Likewise, those researchers discovered that those Christians reported without exception that they knew of at least one person who was praying for their salvation. In your case, it is me! I have added you to my list of people for whom I pray for salvation daily. Do you know of other pray-ers who also are lifting you up?
3. Circumstance
Finally, as a sort of cherry on top of my little report, I draw your attention to the poster just prior to your post, Ban Draoi Marbh Draoi. I quote here in its entirety her statement from her homepage:
My husband and I are Messianic Jews who are waiting and watching for the glorious appearing of our Messiah and King Y'shua ha Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah.) That will be a day when all wrongs are righted -- and judgment for those who have mocked Him and His people all these years.Do you suppose that her post adjacent to yours was mere coincidence?
Jesus loves you and wants you in His Kingdom, golux, where you will find yourself amidst an enormous multitude of believing Jews. He knocked me on my butt, metaphorically, and He can do the same for you. He is persistent, and He is coming for you.
Thank you, Hebrews!
It is very difficult for someone for whom evangelism is a duty, to understand the solemn rejection of Jesus by the Jew, in part because the Jew does not evangelize.
The Jew cannot, should not say “here is why you disobey the First Commandment,” because it is none of his business to say such a thing, and frankly, because (I personally feel) it is rude.
One may ideate, however, on the possibility that the Jew, also, has a fully realized concept of the Lord and of salvation. (This is not Jesus’ or Milton’s invention,) and that the Jew, also, has a deeply thought-out notion of his identity and faith.
That is to say, he is not “incomplete,” or “waiting for anything,” except, well, to you.
The “Messianic Jew” is, of course, a follower of Jesus, but adopts or retains many accoutrements of Jewry.
In any case, I personally believe our Creator is above much of this nonsense. I have watched men bleed to death and get blasted to smithereens over it, and, frankly, I think it is silly.
Torquemada, however, did not think it was so silly, and neither do most serious evangelizers.
I am not one of them.
Your beef is not with me, and there is no evangelization I am trying to foist upon you. I merely noticed the situation and brought it to your attention.
Is it just me or does Jesus look like he is wearing headphones in the Titian?
