A Norfolk Southern train derailed Saturday evening in Springfield, Ohio, sending 28 cars sliding diagonally across the tracks but injuring no one, according to several state and local agencies. The crash marks the rail line's second major derailment in just over a month and comes amid lingering questions about environmental and public health in nearby East Palestine, where a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed on Feb. 3. Officials stressed that the 212-car train that derailed this weekend was not carrying toxic materials and does not pose a threat to the community. Both the Clark County emergency management agency and the...

Chief Thomas Manger sent an internal memo to U.S. Capitol Police on Tuesday saying the commentary on Fox News host Tucker Carlson's program Monday night was "filled with offensive and misleading conclusions about the January 6 attack." The memo, obtained by ABC News, said "the opinion program never reached out to the Department to provide accurate context." "The program conveniently cherry-picked from the calmer moments of our 41,000 hours of video," Manger wrote. "The commentary fails to provide context about the chaos and violence that happened before or during the less tense moments." Manger, who was sworn in in July...

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday accused House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy of helping Fox News stoke conspiracy theories by providing videos that were used by the cable network to portray the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters as peaceful. On Monday, Fox's right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson used some of the security videos, showing protesters walking through the Capitol, to argue that they were merely "sightseers." He said only a small number of those who illegally entered the Capitol as Congress was attempting to formally certify President Joe Biden's 2020 electoral win were "hooligans,"...

Talk about good Genes. Hollywood legend Gene Hackman proved he’s still in tip-top shape as he performed yard work at his ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Sunday. The “Unforgiven” actor — who celebrated his 93rd birthday in January — looked fit and healthy as he brandished a shovel at his private estate. Earlier in the day, the two-time Oscar winner was spotted fueling up for physical labor at a local Wendy’s, where he ordered a meal at the drive-thru. Hungry Hackman chowed down on his chicken sandwich in the fast food franchise’s parking lot before pumping gas at...

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau repeatedly emphasized “climate change” while addressing the Canadian Federation of Agriculture on Monday in Ottawa, Ontario. Trudeau characterized “climate change” — which he regularly frames as a function of fossil fuel consumption and related carbon dioxide emissions — as a primary concern of Canadian farmers and a threat to the financial vitality of agricultural businesses. He remarked: Climate change is an increasingly urgent issue for farmers. You are on the front lines when extreme weather strikes. It hits your bottom lines directly. Hurricane Fiona damaged barns, orchards, and fields, destroying crops and killing cattle. PEI...

(Invasive Jumping Worm, Provided Photo/Purdue Agricultural Communications) INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Remember the murder hornets? Well now make way for the invasive jumping worms. Purdue educators are letting landowners and gardeners know about an invasive species of earthworms that is wreaking havoc in southern Indiana. “Traditionally, when we see earthworms, they are deep in the ground and a little slimy. The jumping worms are a little bit bigger, kind of dry and scaly, and tend to thrash around much like a snake does.” While earthworms in the springtime are a welcome sight for gardeners, this species consumes all organic material from...

Second Week of Lent Matthew 23:1–12 Friends, today’s Gospel exposes the pride of the Pharisees and concludes with the prescription of humility. I want to reflect on this virtue. St. Augustine said that all of us, made from nothing, tend toward nothing. We can see this in our frailty and sin and mortality. St. Paul said, “What do you possess that you have not received? But if you have received it, why are you boasting as if you did not receive it?”To believe in God is to know these truths. To live them out is to live in the attitude...
