Activists are upset that the Bruce family, which received oceanfront property last year that was unjustly taken from its forebears by the government, has now sold it back to Los Angeles County for $20 million. As Breitbart News reported in 2021, the story of the Bruce family was a compelling case for restitution: The owners, Willa and Charles Bruce, purchased the land in 1912 and created a beach resort catering to black clients before the city used eminent domain to seize the property. The land was dormant for decades until the city built a park in 1960 and later renamed...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)As Jesus came down from the mountain with Peter, James, John and approached the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and scribes arguing with them. Mark 9:14This line, from the beginning of today’s Gospel, reveals a transition from an experience of incredible glory to one that is very sad. On the mountain, Jesus was transfigured before three of His disciples, and a small glimpse of His divine essence was revealed to them. The three disciples were overwhelmed with joy and amazement. But as they came down the mountain, they immediately encountered an argument...

This total omits many other expenses, such as the macroeconomic costs to the US economy; the opportunity costs of not investing war dollars in alternative sectors; future interest on war borrowing; and local government...

(Last Updated On: February 16, 2023) NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY Some pie lovers will be eating their favorite pie on February 20 during National Cherry Pie Day. Whether they eat it for breakfast, lunch or supper or a slice at every meal depends on just how much they love cherry pie! #NationalCherryPieDay It seems only right that we celebrate the cherry pie so close to Presidents Day as we all know the story (albeit untrue) of President George Washington and the cherry tree. Cherries were, however, one of his favorite foods. According to the American Pie Council, the pie came...

Somehow Biden has transferred his own checkered history of racial disparagement onto the white working class. Joe Biden ran on “unity,” which is critical in a multiracial America. He vowed to heal the divisions supposedly sown by Donald Trump. Instead, he is proving to be the most polarizing president in modern memory. Often his racialist rhetoric and condescension have proven demeaning to both blacks and whites. In a volatile multiracial democracy that demands tolerance and restraint, a highly unpopular Biden, for cheap political advantage, continually proves incendiary and reckless. Last week Joe Biden snarked after watching a White House screening...

Gov. Josh Shapiro Thursday boldly called on legislators to abolish Pennsylvania’s costly, ineffective and immoral death penalty. In urging legislators to act, an unprecedented move, Mr. Shapiro showed some sorely needed leadership from the governor’s office. Unless Mr. Shapiro engages the legislature, the death-penalty statute will endure. He needs to take the lead in persuading the Democrat-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate to approve bills that would repeal it. Former Gov. Tom Wolf refused to do that. In making his statement a month after his inauguration, Mr. Shapiro signaled that getting state government out of the business of killing people will...

OUR SPECIAL WASHINGTON DISPATCHES. WASHINGTON, Thursday, Feb. 19. The Committee of Ways and Means have perfected the tax bill, and intend to report it to the House to-morrow. It will at once be printed. It is authoritatively stated that no increased tax is recommended on whisky, nor tobacco, perhaps. The statements to-day in regard to the success of the Bank measures in Congress are exceedingly contradictory. Some boldly assert that the House will never pass the Bank bill; but such statements seem to be based upon unreliable or interested information. It is indisputable that the bill gained strength in the...

At the moment, however, I don't think it's possible."“But I do see an opportunity for China to make a pragmatic assessment of what is happening here,” he added. “Because if China allies itself with Russia, there will...
