SWAT teams descended on a sleepy residential community in Pennsylvania in the early hours of Friday morning where they arrested Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger more than a month after four university students were slain in their beds. Kohberger, 28, was taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police at a home in Albrightsville, a small town in the heart of the Poconos Mountains more than 2,000 miles from where the gruesome killings took place on November 13. Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said investigators believe Kohberger broke into the students' home 'with the intent to commit murder.'... Friday's arrest...

Father Jerry Pokorsky | December 30, 2022 | 10:33am EST Those who investigate crimes gather crime-scene evidence. They hope to identify a suspect with the compilation of sufficient evidence to prove guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt.” We also must support our judgments with adequate evidence. It takes considerable effort in political matters because a complete compilation of facts is almost impossible. It may take weeks and years for all the facts to emerge. Yet we all need to make political decisions in real time. Government and media elites throttled reasoned dissent based on evidence during the pandemic. We were not...

Forget Jan. 6. The worst day in recent American history came on May 2020, when the city of Los Angeles filled the skateboarding park at Venice Beach with sand. The move was a deterrent done in the name of preventing the spread of COVID. A month later, and without permission, the skaters dug out the park and started riding again. For those of us who are skateboarders , the closing of the park was a dark day. We seem to intuitively know what has since been proven: joyful exercise in fresh air and sunlight is a natural preventative to illness,...

That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.” Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for John had been saying to him: “It...

Pray For The Peace of JerusalemMatthew 22The Greatest Commandment 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” _______________________________________________________...

Megalomania induced by cancer drugs was a factor in Vladimir Putin's decision to launch his disastrous war in Ukraine, new Western intelligence analysis claims. -snip- The analysis comes as the Kremlin yesterday admitted that concerns over Putin's health are now a matter of 'state security' amid Covid mutations and emerging flu strains. This means the Russian leader may retreat even further from public gaze in early 2023 after having cancelled a series of events and appearances in recent months. -snip- The Kremlin has paved the way for Putin to retreat for health-related reasons soon after his annual prerecorded New Year...

Surveys showing strength for Republicans, often from the same partisan pollsters, set Democratic klaxons blaring in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Colorado. Coupled with the political factors already favoring Republicans — including inflation and President Biden’s unpopularity — the skewed polls helped feed what quickly became an inescapable political narrative: A Republican wave election was about to hit the country with hurricane force.Democrats in each of those states went on to win their Senate races. Ms. Murray clobbered Ms. Smiley by nearly 15 points… Traditional nonpartisan pollsters, after years of trial and error and tweaking of their methodologies, produced polls that...

WASHINGTON, Tuesday, Dec. 30 THE EFFECT OF JEFF. DAVIS' PROCLAMATION. The fulmination of JEFF. DAVIS against Gen. BUTLER and the President's Proclamation has the first effect to derange the programme upon which the exchanges of prisoners have heretofore taken place. The orders and threats of the great outlaw are directly in violation of the cartel, and the first impulse of the Government was to terminate all proceedings under it. It had been merely agreed to make a general exchange, including soldiers, political prisoners and sutlers, but until DAVIS shall satisfactorily explain his intentions, all commissioned officers in our hands will...

... The problem with these mail-in voting laws, Teufel said, is that they fail to specify a place for someone to vote when they vote by mail, which violates Article 1, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. The election clause in that section states, “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.” Teufel said that this clause mandates that states must specify places where federal elections are held. Because the mail-in voting law in Pennsylvania does not specify a place, it essentially allows a voter to...

nalyzing medical death rate data over an eight-year period, Johns Hopkins patient safety experts have calculated that more than 250,000 deaths per year are due to medical error in the U.S. Their figure, published May 3 in The BMJ, surpasses the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) third leading cause of death — respiratory disease, which kills close to 150,000 people per year. The Johns Hopkins team says the CDC’s way of collecting national health statistics fails to classify medical errors separately on the death certificate. The researchers are advocating for updated criteria for classifying deaths on death...

While calling the Wolfpack’s 16-12 loss against Maryland in the Mayo Bowl on Friday, Hahn updated listeners about the Sun Bowl, which was also taking place at the time, by saying “down among all the illegal aliens in El Paso it’s UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6.”

This article is comedic gold, and it wasn’t intended to be. Authored by Emma Green and published by The New Yorker two days back, the headline and teaser of the piece read: The Case for Wearing Masks Forever: A ragtag coalition of public-health activists believe that America’s pandemic restrictions are too lax—and they say they have the science to prove it.As someone who absolutely refuses to wear a mask, I had to see this, because as we all know, the science doesn’t prove it. What was meant to be a thought-provoking and intellectual take, was nothing more than a parade...

Rolling blackouts during the recent cold wave has raised concern about the reliability of our electricity grid, but the growing possibility of deliberate sabotage may be a bigger threat. The first sign America’s electricity grid might have become a target occurred in 2013, when a marksman disabled an electricity substation south of San Jose with more than a hundred long-range shots reportedly from a .50-caliber rifle. This was no casual prank or random act of vandalism. It was clearly planned, and the damage required nearly a month to repair. At the time the FBI downplayed the incident, saying publicly that...

Has anyone watched King of Tulsa with Sylvester Stallone on Paramount+ ? Overall it's not bad, but as I am watching it something feels familiar about the premise and story arc. Then I realized that is is essentially the same concept and story line that was used in Lillehammer on Netflix. Basic outline is: Gangster has issue with "family" and moves to new city where he meets the new city police in a social setting. Then starts a new crime syndicate. Comes into conflict with existing local crime syndicate. Lillehammer is Steven VanZant (Silvio from The Sopranos) and Tulsa King...

(Daily readings from the USCCB)What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:3–5What a great image for meditation: “...the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” This line completes the unique approach taken by John’s Gospel to introduce Jesus, the Eternal “Word” Who existed from the beginning and through Whom all things came to be.Though there is much to meditate on in the first five lines of John’s Gospel, let’s consider...

Our young people are being poisoned by wokesters and the country may never be the same. Have you read George Orwell's perennially popular and spookily prescient book Animal Farm? Written in 1945, it is recognized as one of the most foundational books of the 20th century and the book's satire vs. the reality of today is striking. The story tells of farm animals who collectively decided they would no longer give their productive efforts for the benefit of the farm family. The animals drove out the farmer. Then they divided up the "profits" of the farm to each animal, purportedly...
