The digital tools used to tackle the virus are intruding deeply into people’s lives, but there is no sign that Beijing will relax the rules. A few months ago, a box was left outside the door of 34-year-old Yu Ting Xu’s* apartment in Beijing. Inside, there was an electronic monitoring wristband and a demand that she wear the wristband at all times as part of the fight against COVID-19 in her residential area. While telling her story over a video call, Yu shuffles about in the background. When she returns to her screen, she is holding up the wristband, which...

Western officials are engaged in “prudent planning” behind the scenes to prevent chaos and panic in their home countries in the event Russia was to detonate a nuclear bomb in or near Ukraine. Although a nuclear crisis is considered highly unlikely, the insider said officials internationally were re-examining plans to provide emergency support and reassurance to populations fearful of nuclear escalation. Hints of the thinking emerged in a briefing by an official on Friday, who was asked if there would be measures in place to prevent panic buying or people fleeing cities en masse in fear of escalation after a...

What chance do our boys have if the behavior of snakes and sharks is the primary source of guidance? With so many boys left to the fend for themselves, the claws of social media, television, videogames, and the internet have grabbed hold and corrupted them at a time when they are most vulnerable to outside influences. Since observational learning plays a critical role in development, studies have shown how this exposure is linked to anger, violence, and anxiety. What chance do our boys have if the behavior of snakes and sharks is the primary source of guidance? While the absence...

President Donald Trump will likely lose the Republican presidential primary race in 2024 and, failing that, the general election should he decide to run again. “Whether he runs or not, I don’t really know if it matters,” Ryan stated. “He’s not going to be the nominee, I don’t think.” Ryan made the comments during an appearance with Kevin Kajiwara, CEO of Teneo, the public affairs consulting firm of which Ryan is vice chairman, at their office in Manhattan. Ryan also accused Trump of using “fear and intimidation” to maintain political influence over the Republican Party, which he predicted would end...

Integrating neurons into digital systems may enable performance infeasible with silicon alone. Here, we develop DishBrain, a system that harnesses the inherent adaptive computation of neurons in a structured environment. In vitro neural networks from human or rodent origins are integrated with in silico computing via a high-density multielectrode array. Through electrophysiological stimulation and recording, cultures are embedded in a simulated game-world, mimicking the arcade game “Pong.” Applying implications from the theory of active inference via the free energy principle, we find apparent learning within five minutes of real-time gameplay not observed in control conditions. Further experiments demonstrate the importance...

The United States will send munitions and military vehicles to Ukraine as part of a new $725 million security assistance package aimed at bolstering the country's defense against the Russian invasion, the Defense Department said on Friday. The package is the first since Russia's barrage of missiles fired on civilian population centers in Ukraine this week. It will bring the total of U.S. security assistance since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 to more than $17.5 billion. The contents of the latest package, first reported by Reuters, includes high-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARMs) and precision-guided artillery as well as medical supplies,...

For the first time in my adult life, there is a genuine sense of decay in Britain—a realization that something has been lost that will be difficult to recover, something more profound than pounds and pence, political personalities, or even prime ministers. Over the past three weeks, the U.K. has been gripped by a crisis of crushing stupidity, one that has gone beyond all the turmoil of Brexit, Boris, even the great bank bailouts of 2007, and touched that most precious of things: core national credibility. Today, we had the absurd spectacle of a prime minister, barely a month into...

Shocking footage has emerged on Twitter of a so-called 'family friendly' drag queen show in which one of the performers can be seen spreading their legs in front of an audience that includes young children. 'This is what a 'family friendly' drag show looks like. Drag queens spreading their legs for little kids to tip them,' stated the infamous Libs of TikTok Twitter account. Although the time and location are yet to be identified, the event appears to have been sponsored by IPIC Movie Theaters which operates a number of locations across the northeastern US, Florida and California. In the...

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s new Treasury chief on Saturday acknowledged mistakes made by his predecessor and suggested that he may reverse much of Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss’ tax-cutting plans in order to bring stability to the country after weeks of economic and political turbulence. Jeremy Hunt, who was brought in Friday to replace Kwasi Kwarteng as Treasury chief and restore order in Truss’ administration, warned of “difficult decisions” to come. He said taxes could rise and public spending budgets would likely be squeezed further in the coming months. Truss on Friday fired Kwarteng and ditched her pledge to scrap...

Alaska will cancel the upcoming winter snow crab season in the Bering Sea for the first time, and bar fishers from catching king crabs in the Bristol Bay for a second consecutive year, because of a sharp decline in their estimated population. This week’s announcements by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game deal a severe blow to fishers that make a living off the crabs. They also bring back to the forefront questions about the role of climate change in the rapid decline of the snow crab population: The number of juvenile snow crabs was at record highs just...

Some insiders have told Liberation Times that new UAP whistleblower language could be signed into law “in weeks” and after upcoming midterm elections. Corbell comments: “The Silver Bullet is coming.” Once National Defense Authorization Act 2023 becomes law, it is expected that public Congressional hearings will take place, and whistleblowers have already been requested to testify. It has also been confirmed by multiple sources that information relating to alleged secretive UAP retrieval and reverse-engineering programs has now been verified by Congress. There is now some urgency from Congress to provide transparency and some insiders hope that any released information can...

he U.S. Navy has released 35 brief reports regarding various incidents involving its ships and facilities and unidentified small uncrewed aircraft systems, or sUASs, across the entire span of the Pacific between 2016 and 2021. Not all of the reports appear to be notable, and some are clearly innocuous, but others absolutely provide additional evidence of concerning trends that The War Zone has been actively reporting on in recent years. Among the newly released reports, for instance, is one that covers a worrying encounter that the Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Paul Hamilton had with four drones in the Pacific...

Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said during a press conference on Thursday that he has heard reports and seen reports online that the group was in the vicinity of the Mesa drop box located at the juvenile courts building. Richer did not elaborate on who the group is, but expressed concern if a voter becomes confronted, “Any attempt to deter, intimidate a lawful voter...

Anastacia Ntouni and Angelique are Greek-Australian Freedom Party candidates for the lower house of Victoria's state parliament in next months's election. They do not want any more of a government which: A. imprisons people in their own homes for the bogus excuse of public health safety. B. abuses human rights. C. lets teachers teach gender fluidity to small children. Women like this are both profoundly conservative custodians of the Greek democratic culture and radical revolutionaries opposing despotism. God Bless Freedom.
